A young married father was found guilty today of conspiring to kill hundreds of members of the public in a terrorist bombing campaign.Abdulla Ahmed Ali planned to detonate homemade liquid bombs in attacks on British targets, including at Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 3.
Two other men were found guilty of conspiracy to murder. One of the defendants was found not guilty and the jury was unable to reach a verdict for four other men on trial.
But embarrassingly for counter-terrorism police, the jury rejected the main charge made against the men that there was a plot to cause a series of explosions on airliners to rival the 9/11 attacks.
Police claimed that the men were planning to use an unusual hydrogen peroxide liquid bomb disguised in soft drink bottles. The case led to the security procedures which have prevented thousands of holidaymakers carrying containers of liquid onto aircraft since 2006.
Ali, 27, was the leader of an east London al-Qaeda-inspired terror cell, a jury at Woolwich Crown Court found. He and his co-defendants, Assad Sarwar, 28, and Tanvir Hussain, 27, admitted plotting a series of small-scale headline-grabbing bomb attacks. But the jury rejected Ali’s claims he did not plan to kill or hurt anyone in the blasts. It also failed to reach verdicts on Ibrahim Savant, Arafat Waheed Khan, Waheed Zaman and Umar Islam. An eighth man, Mohammed Gulzar, was found not guilty on all counts.
The jury of eight men and four women had been deliberating for more than 50 hours at the end of a trial which began in April.
Police said the plot was drawn up in Pakistan with detailed instructions passed to Ali during frequent trips to its lawless border region with Afghanistan....

'Three members of an Islamist cell accused of plotting to blow up transatlantic aircraft with liquid explosives in 2006 have been found guilty by a court in London.
'Abdulla Ahmed Ali, described as the leader of the eight-man group, was convicted at Woolwich Crown Court of conspiring to murder hundreds of people, as were two others, Assad Sarwar and Tanvir Hussain.
'The trial considered charges that the men planned to smuggle the explosives in soft drink bottles on board aircraft flying from London's main Heathrow airport to North America.
'The home-made devices would then have been set off in flight, causing carnage in the skies, prosecutors alleged during the three-and-a-half-month trial.
'The men's arrest in August 2006 prompted new restrictions on carrying liquids on board aircraft from Britain, which had been on high alert since July 2005 suicide bombings which killed 52 people in London.
'The travel security restrictions have since been eased.
'During the trial, three of the defendants pleaded guilty to plotting explosions.
'Seven admitted conspiracy to commit public nuisance by distributing Al Qaeda videos threatening suicide bomb attacks in Britain.
'On Monday the jury failed to reach verdicts on four defendants: Ibrahim Savant, Arafat Waheed Khan, Waheed Zaman and Umar Islam. An eighth man, Mohammed Gulzar, was found not guilty on all counts.
'The trial started in April, and the 12-person jury retired to consider their verdicts at the end of July.
'Sentencing will be handed down at a later date.
'Prosecutors alleged that the men plotted suicide attacks on at least seven flights from Britain to North America in a simultaneous attack of "truly global impact".
'All eight defendants faced two charges of conspiracy to murder, with one charge specifying that the attacks would involve detonating improvised bombs on board commercial airliners between January 1 and August 11, 2006.
'The men targeted seven flights from London's Heathrow airport; to New York, Washington, Chicago, San Francisco, Toronto and Montreal, the jury had heard.
'They aimed to use hydrogen peroxide liquid explosives injected into plastic soft drinks bottles to cause "a civilian death toll from an act of terrorism on an almost unprecedented scale", prosecutor Peter Wright told the trial.
'They were "not long off" putting their plan into action and had talked of up to 18 different suicide bombers targeting seven or even more flights, operated by United Airlines, American Airlines and Air Canada, he said.
'Summing up the case in July, a prosecutor said the eight accused wanted to achieve "immortality" and be "lionised" by other Islamic extremists for a deadly attack which would "shock the world".
'Six of the defendants were found to have recorded suicide videos, apparently modelled on that left by the ringleader of the July 2005 bombings, Mohammad Sidique Khan.
'All wore a similar black overcoat and traditional headscarf to Khan, speaking to camera in front of a black and white flag covered in Arabic script. {HMM - and at no time, during the trial, did anyone tell the jury *what* that 'arabic script' actually SAID? Quranic verses, perhaps? - dda}.
'In one, plot leader Ali referred to Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
"Sheikh Osama warned you many times to leave our lands or you will be destroyed, and now the time has come for you to be destroyed," he said in the video shown during the trial.
"We will take our revenge and anger, ripping amongst your people and scattering the people and your body parts and your people's body parts responsible for these wars and oppression decorating the streets."'

My God--this is like the kid who is on trial for the brutal murder of his parents asking the court for leniency because he is now an orphan!
Doesn't anyone remember *why* it is significant that Ali is a "young married father"? It is because he planned to board an airplane with his young wife and infant child with a bomb hidden *in the child's bottle*. How could a young Muslim man possibly seem less of a threat than when traveling with his family?

What monsters! And, of course, there is also the little matter of the planned massacre of dozens of innocent airplane passengers and crew.
This is the reason you can't take a cup of Starbuck's coffee or anything more than a sample-size bottle of shampoo on an airplane. If a baby's bottle cannot be assumed safe, then nothing is.

It is of EXTREME importance to limit UK travelers to the U.S. Since the British government has issued bona fide British passports to Muslims who are so extreme they cannot live in their own Muslim countries. Since they allow an immense back and forth traffic between Osama-land and Europe, good old Britain has become the greatest terrorist threat to the United States. The UK has gone so far to appease extreme Islam that under the original 'Bush Doctrine' (those who shelter and aid the enemy are the enemy) we should be bombing London.

I do have a problem with many looser Muslims who are jelous of the Westerners whom thank God for giving them better life, better religion, better talent, better inteligense and the list goes on and on.

You wanted to know when is our government going to stop the entry of all Muslims to the US and the answer to that is never, unfortunately.
Apparently, killing thousands of Americans on 911 changed things for the worse - more terrorists entered the US soil since 911.
By the time they will kill enough Americans, they will be too engrained in our society's political system, media outlets and legal system and every other system that will matter. They already own our universities - need I say more?
