More myopia in Europe, via the Brussels Journal, October 18 (thanks to all who sent this in):
Jacques Barrot is the European Commissioner for Justice. In an interview at Café Babel [in French] he gives some revealing answers which indicate that the European suicide is underway. He calls immigration an economic and moral necessity, adding that Islam is welcome in Europe.Mr Barrot is a former deputy in the French National Assembly, from 1967 to 2004. He was one of the founders of today's UMP party, an institution that claims to be conservative. UMP is the party of Nicolas Sarkozy, who is known to the media and the world as a politician of the "Right." Barrot had previously supported Jacques Chirac, and before that had been a leader of the centrist movement. In 2000 he was convicted in a French court of "abuse of confidence". The case involved the diverting of government money to his party. He received an eight month suspended prison sentence but was pardoned by Jacques Chirac. Since 2004, Barrot has been a European Commissioner. He is also a Vice President of the European Commission.
Below are excerpts from the Barrot interview:
Does Europe need immigration? Barrot: Yes. The demographic situation of Europe requires a migration that must be concerted. Europe's mission is also a desire to facilitate exchanges between countries. Immigration is both an economic and a moral necessity. […] Islam is perceived by some as incompatible with European values of democracy, peace and equality of the sexes. What is the EU's position with regard to this problematical situation? B: This way of looking at Islam as antagonistic to European values is a totally partial and erroneous view. Islam is a monotheistic religion that seems to me to be compatible with our principles of laïcité. What is not compatible, are all the fundamentalists, not only Islamic, who wish to segregate and exclude other religions.
But is this really true? Christian fundamentalists are routinely equated with Islamic jihadists, and in reality it is an extraordinarily unfair comparison. Christian fundamentalists are not blowing anything up. Christian fundamentalists are not crowing about how they will soon take power and replace Constitutional rule with religious law. Christian fundamentalists are not preaching that non-Christians must accept a second-class status and pay a special tax for the privilege of not being robbed from and killed.
As soon as pluralism is accepted by Islam, in any case in Europe, Islam is welcome. What IS true is that we will always fight against the fact that in the Islamic milieu Christian communities are not always respected as they should be. But that is characteristic of a certain number of Islamic States, it is not characteristic of Europe. Europe favors religious pluralism and it is obvious that if Islam wants to exist in Europe, it must accept this pluralism. Here Barrot seems to be setting clear conditions for a large-scale presence of Muslims in Europe. Yet what apparatus is he setting in place, or advocating be set in place, to make sure that "pluralism" is or will be "accepted by Islam"? He seems to realize that it isn't accepted by many Muslims now. What is he doing to change that? Or is he simply favoring massive immigration of non-pluralist Muslims into Europe, and hoping for the best?
Morocco is soon to be given special status in the EU and is to join the common economic space, which means that they will have all the rights of Europeans, except the joining of European Union institutions.
There are over 32, thirty two, million people living in Morocco, over 98 percent of them are muslim.
How many Moroccans will choose to live in Europe? My guess is milllions of them.
This will all be put into place by 2013.
The EU also wants all of the Meditteranean union countries to one day be able to live and work in the European Union.
That means countries like Syria, Algeria, Egypt and the Palestinian Authority.
Europe, you're fate is sealed.
I've read the original interview and I think some of the ideas he presents represent a good starting point.
He differentiates between "circular migration", "illegal" and "legal immigration". "Circular migration" means that skilled workers from Muslim countries will be hired but for a limited period only, and they will have to return. That way, on one hand the EU can compete with the US and at the same time the "migrants" countries of origin will not experience a brain drain. Those skilled workers will be able to bring their families.
There will be a "blue ID card" program for legal immigrants, while they are putting in place a "return directive" to send all the illegal immigrants back to their counties. Now it is a matter of other European countries agreeing with the plan. Spain has signed so far but some of the former eastern bloc oppose it.
There is apparently a program in the works to integrate Iraqi refugees -most of whom will probably be Christian.
Of course, he sugar coats his statements, but the bottom line is that they seem fully aware that they have a huge problem on their hands.
This is simply a desire by an unelected elite, to destroy every soverign nation in Europe and every people indigenous to each country in Europe.
Swilliams, do you honestly think that they will go back, once they've arrived in the EU?
That's what the original guestworkers were supposed to do, many many years ago.
Dumbasses should not use "big" words. The same words can make them look like even bigger dumbasses. Perhaps Mr. Barrot should not write about Islam at all (or immigration).
So, is that it, then? I guess it won't be long before Europeans, speaking in hushed tones, huddle in small rooms talking about democracy as something from the past...
"Europe's mission is also a desire to facilitate exchanges between countries.:
.....and just what does Europe get on their behalf for allowing Muslims in?....
absolutely nothing of value... Muslim immigration is an absolutely bad policy...
Voltaire
No, I personally think they'll try to stay, but they will be under some sort of contract - I imagine with some mention on their passport too - and that will make it a lot easier to monitor.
But I also think that the happy years of the 80s are over. To become a national will be a lot more difficult when up till now in France for example, it is the inevitable consequence of immigration, legal or not.
We must understand that migrant workers are in demand everywhere, and particularly in Europe. The problem has been that members of the EU have so far competed for those workers rather than establish a common policy in their regard. And that's the result.
In any case, if Barrot can get EU countries to cooperate, that's a small step in the right direction.
What an ignorant fool! This will pretty much slam the door on any thought and hope of Europistan to reverse it's misguided and corrupt policies of immigration. islam has brought nothing but instigation, unrest, violence and death to Europistan. The muslims are making it just like the countries they immigrated from, all the way back to the seventh century. Just a matter of time. The EU will a belt of islam, sharia law and a never ending, worsening source of export for islamofacism.
swilliams: Look at what has been brought in so far. Yes, migrant workers may be in demand, especially in Europistan and the die is cast unless DRASTIC immigration policies in Europistan are reversed, and balance tipping in favor of muslims can be reversed. We have our the same problems in the States but Europistan has served as a good example of when a continent lets in way too many of the wrong people.
Mr Barrot said:
“-- As soon as pluralism is accepted by Islam, in any case in Europe, Islam is welcome."
That statement alone demonstrates that Mr Barrot has never studied Islam or its works.
He also said:
“What IS true is that we will always fight against the fact that in the Islamic milieu Christian communities are not always respected as they should be. But that is characteristic of a certain number of Islamic States—"
A certain number?
That statement alone demonstrates that Mr Barrot has never studied the fate of non Muslim communities in every one of the 57 Muslim countries, including the so-called "secular" ones.
Insanity is no less insane for being grounded firmly and exclusively on pure ignorance.
“Immigration Is Moral Necessity”
Moral necessity? Pleeeease Barrot, give me a break. Demographic and economic necessity maybe, but those are merely more unintended consequences of misguided, Leftist, zero growth policies.
You might consider trying to increase the birth rate among your native population... nah, just have fun moralizing about your own demise.
I see that being completely full of crap, and proud of it, is a world wide pandemic among politicians.
Given that Europe thinks they need lots of immigrants...whether they actually do need them, or not...WHY WHY WHY do people like Mr Barrot seem to be convinced that ALL or nearly all of those immigrants *must* be Muslims? That there is no alternative to massive MUSLIM immigration??
When I look at the planet I see lots of NON-MUSLIM countries that could provide people who would cause much less trouble and expense; people who would acculturate and integrate and intermarry, who would fit in, and contribute, rather than living as ungrateful parasites.
There are, too, lots of non-Muslim populations, within Muslim-majority countries, that are suffering dreadful persecution - some of them are on the very edge of being subjected to full-scale jihad genocide - so WHY THE HELL cannot Mr Barrot say: 'Refugee dhimmi Christians YES, Muslims (any Muslims) NO'?
Does he have someone standing over him with a gun telling him that if Europe dares to take in any non-Muslim immigrant, it *must* at the same time accept five or ten Muslims...or else?
If there is any sort of 'moral necessity' involved, let it be, for example, a moral necessity to open the gates of hope for the Assyrian Christians whom the Muslims are preparing to mass-murder; or for the Egyptian Copts, who are also experiencing steadily escalating threats of murder and mayhem. There are about ten million Copts.
Here's a sample of what Europe could do, if they had real political and moral courage.
A: Evict, permanently, some ten million murderous jihad-plotting drug-smuggling welfare-defrauding raping thieving whining complaining rioting car-burning library-burning church-burning cemetery-desecrating Jew-killing Jew-hating rebellious expensive Muslims from Europe.
B: In exchange, take in some ten million hard-working, peaceable, intelligent Christian Copts who will be absolutely *delighted* to live somewhere where they don't have to grovel and pay enormous bribes in order to be permitted to repair a church window, and where their little boys and little girls are not routinely kidnapped and forcibly 'converted' to Islam.
Share the Copts around; watch GDP and Gross Intellectual Product perceptibly increase as the Copts flourish in a friendly environment.
Jihadwatch's own Raymond Ibrahim is a walking, talking advertisement for what happens when Copts escape dhimmitude and can raise children in a human-friendly non-Islamic environment.
Mr Barrot is a traitor. Europe is European, not Islamic... and yet he welcomes Europe's Islamization!
You, Mr Barrot, and most of the unelected slime at the EU - hate Europe and its EUROPEAN citizens.
European citizens not only reject Islam, they reject unelected, democracy-hating slime like you.
