Odds are they think it won't hit them. It's what I have never understood about the enthusiasm for attacking Israel. As Israel goes, so go the Palestinians. Even if the Israelis were so stunned, caught so completely off guard that they never even fired a shot, any nuclear attack by Iran would wipe out lots more than Israel.
The odd thing is the land they've been trying to reclaim (and lots more, as you pointed out) would be rendered uninhabitable.

"BIG DAY" will be a cause for celebration. Should ANY islamic country attack Israel in a big way, Israel's retaliation will might turn all the middle east into a glass parking lot. More parking for the Jews THAT WILL SURVIVE in Israel and beyond.
Ethoman's post is well noted. Israel has more than we know lurking about, especially in the middle east. Israel already has cause enough to

It will be simple for Iran to destroy Isreal without the martyrdom of the Palestinian people or incurring mutually assurred destruction. All they have to do is explode a nuclear device at altitude over Isreal that creates an electromagnetic pulse that cripples Isreal's communications. If the Arab armies know about it ahead of time, they would have significant tactical advantage. Or if they don't care about the Martyrdom of the Palestinians, they could do the same with a neutron emitting device and kill everyone while preserving infrastructure, esp Al-Aqsa. If they fire the device from a missile close to Isreal, like in Gaza or the West Bank, Isreal will not be able to use retaliation as a deterrent because they wouldn't know who to strike back. I think that's why Iran's recent missile tests always seem to explode at peak trajectory. Maybe the real deterrent would be for Isreal to promise to destroy Mecca if ever attacked.

That promise should have been made by the US after the first WTC bombing and it should have been followed through after 9/11.
If Israel is crippled then they can't attack Mecca. If the rest of the (as yet) free world promises to make good on that promise, then we will see what matters to Muslims. Even more, what matters to the Saudis. What is their justification for rule if they can't guard "the holy places"?
