Anti-Sharia Alert -- although there are certain to be protests from traditional Muslims against this, since there is an abundance of evidence from the Islamic sources that Muhammad consummated his marriage with Aisha when she was nine. An update on this story. "Morocco shuts schools advocating child marriage," from AFP, September 26:
Authorities in Morocco have shut down around 60 Koranic schools belonging to a Muslim theologian who argues that girls as young as nine can marry, officials said today. The authorities also plan to close down the Internet site on which Sheikh Mohamed Ben Abderrahman Al-Maghraoui decreed earlier this month that the marriage of nine-year-old girls is allowed by Islam.
The sheikh said his decree was based on the fact that the Prophet Mohammed consummated his marriage to his favourite wife when she was that age.
Lawyers, the media, and finally Muslim scholars rounded on Maghraoui for effectively seeking to legalise pedophilia.
The authorities finally took action yesterday, shutting down his headquarters in Marrakesh and dozens of his small Koranic schools dotted around the country....
Yikes! Next thing you know, Morocco will be banning honor killings!
Haram! Haram! I am sure we can count on a bunch of breaded Islamic scholars coming to the defense of pedophila.
Next, those kafir clowns running Morocco will be banning schools that advocate Jihadi warfare against Infidels.
What's the world coming to?
tanstaafl, I quite like the idea of breaded Islamic scholars though I probably wouldn't try one myself.

On what textual authority does the Moroccan government take issue with Sheikh Mohamed Ben Abderrahman Al-Maghraoui?The texts are on his side. Do members of the government dare to discuss thus, or do they just ignore the fact that he is right, and they wrong, about Islam, and about what the Perfect Man did, which is why Khomeini, for example, reduced the marriageable age of girls to nine?
60 down and 200,000 to go.
First and foremost, Robert, I am thankful for Men among men, such as yourself, for bringing this topic in view. Thankfully, some people are catching on. Where is C.A.R.E ?
I agree, philiph. Those breaded Islamites are just too cheesy for me!
Are the authorities saying that emulating Mohammad is bad?
If they punish someone for emulating Mohammad does that not insult Mohammad?
Are they saying that emulating the perfect man
Mohammad is haram?
Are the Moroccan authorities ready for riot...No but they may be in store for a visit/lawsuit from CAIR.
I can't help thinking that the times, they are-a-changing finally.
Thank you, Robert & friends
Baby steps. Perhaps this will save a few young girls from forced marriage and child-rape. But I suspect the Moroccan authorities will have a hard time making this stick.
At least there is still some vestige of the French having been in Morocco. Unfortunately, the imam does have the texts behind him.
I just checked and the legal age for marriage in Morocco is 18. Kudos to them, not only for not allowing children to marry, but for having the same age for men and women, both of which are real rarities in those hellhole countries. Egypt lowered their age of marriage for 'women' from 18 to 9 last May when they relegalized FGM. It will be interesting to see if Morocco keeps theirs law decent or not. I actually like the fact that there's legal pedophilia in the Muslim world because it just makes it so much easier to shame Muslims in the West. Laws or no, one cannot simultaneously be a Muslim and repudiate pedophilia. On the contrary, Muslims by definition must not only condone it, but actively advocate and glamorize it.
Breaded imams are good with ketchup.
Unless the faith itself is the focus, at best it is temporary step forward. If islam is not seen as the enemy, it's customs will return with the next leader who is a follower.
Surely this
I have often wondered what would happen if somebody took Islam to court.
I know it sounds silly, but it isn't really. One could call the highest, most respected scholars, of the Islamic faith - and get them to talk about Islam's teachings.
One could get such respected leaders to
I just find it so sad that nobody really seems to know what Mohammad was like. When I tell people stuff about him, it's almost like they don't believe me.
I try to tell them - when they say 'but that's how it was then, in the 7th century' - that, while true, the problem is they see this misogynistic murderer like Christians see Christ.
A man to be emulated. I tell them that his values of child marriage has led to things like the paedophile Khomeini emulating him when he took over Iran in 1979.
Or how nearly every girl by the second grade in Afghanistan has a husband.
It's just so sad.
How can one be a good Muslim (as we keep hearing there are many) but follow Mohammed's teachings?
Isn't it more true that such people just don't really practice Islam?
