Kismayu - Relatives of a Somali woman who was publicly stoned to death by Islamists have reacted with fury.
Asha Ibrahim Dhuhulow, 23, was stoned to death after being accused of adultery, witnesses said. It was the first such public killing by the militants for about two years.
"The stoning was totally irreligious and illogical," said Dhuhulow's sister, who asked not to be named.
"Islam does not execute a woman for adultery unless four witnesses and the man with whom she committed sex are brought forward publicly," she said.
Dhuhulow was placed in a hole up to her neck for the execution late on Monday in front of hundreds of people in a square of this southern port, which the Islamist insurgents captured in August.
"A woman in a green veil and black mask was brought in a car as we waited to watch the merciless act of stoning," one resident, Abdullahi Aden, said.
"We were told she submitted herself to be punished, yet we could see her screaming as she was forcibly bound, legs and hands. A relative of hers ran towards her, but the Islamists opened fire and killed a child."
Stones were hurled at Dhuhulow's head, and the woman was brought out of the hole three times to see if she had died.
The Islamists last carried out public executions when they ruled Mogadishu and most of south Somalia for half of 2006. Allied Ethiopian and Somali government forces toppled them at the end of that year

I like how she is considered the guilty party in this act of adultery, and it sounds like he only serves as an additional witness, because he is not punished.
The wording is very interesting, "with whom she committed sex", as if he was taken advantage of?
From my experience, most women do NOT pursue men, but it's the other way around; and it's very possible that she may have been raped by this guy, or he came on to her. Women generally don't go looking to have an affair, it's the men who first take the initiative. Nor do men bring an ontourage of four men with them to witness the sex act, so the woman is totally screwed no matter what.
It's brutal and it's unfair, and designed to allow men to get away with having sex with whomever they please.

The woman is always guilty in islam, and if the man who had committed adultery with her had come forward he would have gotten off with a slap on his hand, if anything at all. I think that's the prevailing sentiment in America, given that most ordinary folks experience with Muslims is with the vanguard of Muslim immigration; i.e. the Western-educated professionals, usually in the medical field, and quite "Western" in manner, and are non-covered (or if wives are hijabed, they're safely tucked away at home, unseen). They have yet to encounter the second wave of Muslim immigrants, much more covered, much more "religious", and much more disconcerting, which we in New York (and perhaps other large cities) are seeing. In fact, quite rapidly.

Will- thanks for your comment. However, I actually work in Orthopedic and Urology surgery and am pained whenever I see or hear any human or animal is suffering. I am usually blowing of steam and stress as this whole thing is really unbelievable...as is 9-11, sometimes. I wish we could argue and logically debate instead of using "tomohawk missiles" and "fuel-air explosions" or "cluster bombs".

This article never mentions that the poor little girl was dug up 3 times (and I assume reburied twice for some more stoning) to see if she was still alive. I can't even begin to imagine the unspeakable horror the child went through. And the stadium was jammed with spectators to witness, islamic justice, sharia law, muhammad's legacy, in all its glory. But hey, I'm told it's a "deterrent". Surely, allah is proud.
