"See those divisive Islamophobes, Barack? They must be silenced!"
In Human Events today I discuss a recent disquieting initiatives by our anointed Next President, and their implications:
Last week the Governor of Missouri, Matt Blunt, issued a statement on the Obama campaign’s “abusive use of Missouri law enforcement.” What was striking about the allegations Blunt made was the eerie parallel between the Obama camp’s activity and the Organization of the Islamic Conference’s efforts to stifle all criticism of Islam and destroy the freedom of speech -- also by means of legal intimidation -- at the UN and elsewhere.Blunt charged that four Missouri state officials along with the leader of Obama’s campaign in Missouri “have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.” In declaring an intent to prosecute those who spread what they considered to be falsehoods about Obama, they were, said Blunt, “abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.”
Such behavior, said Blunt, was “scandalous beyond words.” Obama and his supporters, he said, were trying to “frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.”“Barack Obama,” he declared, “needs to grow up.”
Maybe he does, but what is most disturbing about this Missouri incident is that it takes place just as defenders of free speech are fighting a United Nations resolution called “Combating the Defamation of Religion.” The non-binding resolution, introduced by the 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference, “notes with deep concern the intensification of the campaign of defamation of religions and the ethnic and religious profiling of Muslim minorities in the aftermath of 11 September 2001” and “stresses the need to effectively combat defamation of all religions and incitement to religious hatred, against Islam and Muslims in particular.”
The U.S. government opposes the resolution, pointing out that “defamation-related laws have been abused by governments and used to restrict human rights.”
But how long will this American opposition last? If Barack Obama values free speech so little, as this Missouri episode suggests, it is not at all beyond the realm of possibility that if he becomes president, he will acquiesce to the OIC’s attempts to criminalize criticism of Islam, and pressure the Supreme Court (to which he will probably appoint several key members) to declare a “hate speech” exemption to First Amendment protections.
And what about the liberals’ favorite anti-free speech tool, the Fairness Doctrine? Nancy Pelosi has said she’d like to re-impose the Orwellian-named “doctrine” to make sure that conservative talk radio will be “balanced” -- hour by hour, minute by minute -- by liberal talk radio. Can anyone doubt that a President Obama would sign legislation reviving the Fairness Doctrine?
Obama’s campaign has said he doesn’t support return of the Fairness Doctrine because it’s supposedly a distraction. Last February Obama’s press secretary, Michael Ortiz, said, “He considers this debate to be a distraction from the conversation we should be having about opening up the airwaves and modern communications to as many diverse viewpoints as possible. That is why Sen. Obama supports media-ownership caps, network neutrality, public broadcasting, as well as increasing minority ownership of broadcasting and print outlets."
OK: so Obama doesn’t support the 1934 version of the Fairness Doctrine and wants to modernize it to suit modern liberal interests.
Will the modernized Obama Fairness Doctrine happen? I hope not. I pray not. But can it happen? After reading this story out of Missouri, I am beginning to wonder if maybe it can in an Obama Presidency. An attorney has recently assured me that precedents protecting free speech in American law are very thick on the ground and will be hard to overturn. In fact, he maintained that they would be impossible to overturn. Still -- is this speculation, and that is certainly all that it is, really that far beyond reasonable possibility? Already those who discuss the jihad threat in its full dimensions honestly and openly are ostracized, marginalized and vilified.
If candidate Obama is willing to have people arrested when they say things about him that he doesn’t like, will President Obama have the vision or courage or understanding to stand up against the OIC when it demands restrictions on freedom of speech at precisely the same time that he wants to build bridges to the Islamic world and demonstrate his power to restore hope and bring change to old stalemated conflicts?
So maybe Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham and a few miserable “Islamophobes” get silenced, fined, arrested, imprisoned, whatever. What’s the big deal? Peace will then march on unimpeded. At least just as it did before 1776.

Get used to it. Obama is probably going to win, no thanks at all to all to dimwits like Sarah Palin and all the stupid chattering saps who think she is so great, like Tammy Bruce. If she is so stupid that she counldn't come back to Biden about how Hezbollah got kicked out Lebanon, then she is truly a bubble head. Unfortunately for Obama as well some of the paranoids on the right, we do have a bill of rights and millions of lawyers. But I also remember how Bush had hecklers at his 2004 campaign rallies arrested but that would be so deranged of me to bring up that inconvenient fact
A McCain victory is not off the table at this point. He's 5 points behind, and factoring in the Bradley effect, the fact that - as Ann Coulter just attested on Fox and Friends - nobody says they're going to vote for McCain to sound cool and impress their friends, the fact that the liberal media lies and so does Zogby (and if you notice all those polls are either from CNN, Zogby, or CBS - the Dan Rather people), plus people in my sphere - the academics and teachers - who will be ostracized for not supporting Trotskyism, I would say that, even despite the unlevel playing field, McCain could very well win. Plus, expect Palin to keep putting her b*alls on the table and hammering away the attacks at Obama, questioning his connections, with which we are all quite familiar but the rest of head-up-their-asses America isn't, followed by silence and logical fallacies from the Obama camp.

This is not only beyond the realm of possibility; it is entirely likely. On May 22, Obama told a gathering of donors at the Westin Hotel in Palm Beach, Fla., that "A certain segment has basically been feeding a kind of xenophobia. There’s a reason why hate crimes against Hispanic people doubled last year. If you have people like Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh ginning things up, it’s not surprising that would happen.” He has made other statements along this line.
This dovetails with several statements by former UN Special Rapporteur "on racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related forms of intolerance" Doudou Diène in his reports to the UN Human Rights Council; for example, his complaints on Aug. 21, 2007 about the "intellectual legitimization" of "Islamophobia" and how "the manipulation and selective quoting of sacred texts, in particular the Koran, as a means to deceptively argue that these texts show the violent nature of Islam has become current practice." Diène no longer holds the Special Rapporteur's post, but his reports to the UNHRC have laid the rhetorical foundation for the UN's upcoming conference "against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance" ("Durban II"), which will be held not three months after the next president's inauguration and whose focus is expected to be on "Islamophobia."
The OIC will thus have a big megaphone to trumpet its demand that the latter be criminalized, and it may well have an American diplomatic ear to blare it into. As Ed Lasky noted at the American Thinker on March 4, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was non-committal about what the State Department's approach to Durban II, since it will take place during the next administration.
Moreover, another anti-"Islamophobia" conference has been proposed by the Malaysian government at the OIC's behest, and the intent is to hold it in the United States. OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu stipulated this venue, according to the Malaysian Foreign Minister, "because of the polemic on Islam in that country as well as the wide media coverage it would get." The OIC's plan is to maintain the operational tempo of the jihad in the propaganda theater by amplifying what "Durban II" is certain to culminate in: a call for "hate speech" legislation criminalizing "Islamophobia." Even if such legislation is not enacted, the "wide media coverage" envisioned by Ihsanoglu could further marginalize us. A vigorous informational counteroffensive must be planned and executed in order to forestall such an outcome.
Don't get me wrong, I plan on voting for McCain in spite of Palin and all the stupid annoying big mouths. That McCain and Palin would be far stronger anti-jihaders than Obongo-Bidding is beyond debate.
What always gets me about the hate crimes whiners is they conveniently forget all the hate crimes committed by the members of their fave victim group, after all murder and assault are hardly love crimes along with theft, fraud, etc.

Removing disruptive people from a campaign rally (depending on the circumstances and location) is hardly equivalent to imposing the "Fairness Doctrine" or using legal bullying to silence political speech. Heckling itself can be a bullying tactic to suppress free speech. Keeping groups from having their OWN rallys...that would be suppression of free speech.

90+% of those hate crimes were committed by Hispanics against Hispanics. The only people who aren't 10x more likely to commit violent crimes against members of their own community are Muslims, which is horrifying when you read the tales of daily gang rapes that occur against good, wholesome, mutilated, parasitic sex-slave baby factories in the Banlieues of Paris.
If there is a possible Obama win it would be because of voter fraud. Keep a close eye on ACORN, they are great for commiting voter fraud. Would it suprise anyone that there was a BIG raid in Las Vegas of an ACORN branch office?
PS: The raid took place yesterday.
That is why the internet will be much more important then ever before in the fight for freedom.
In the midst of this depressing campaign where the perfect economic storm gathered to almost assure an Obama victory, it's gratifying to see that Robert has all but endorsed the Republicans. His 'big-tent' aspirations are laudable, and certainly the right way to go vis-a-vis the long term. But in the short-term, he's let it be known there is no way in hell he can ever support an Obama presidency.
Meanwhile, Gore led Bush by 9 points 30 days before the election in 2000. We can only hope and pray there is a similar reversal this time around. But one can't help but believe that Obama's radical past, his stubborn inability to acknowledge he was wrong on the surge, his plans for massive new entitlements...that all these ugly blemishes have lost all relevance in the atmospherics of financial melt-down.
What has also been lost is perspective. The entire history of capitalism is one of expansion and contraction. It conforms to the laws of nature. Yet, too many people think this is the end of the world.
We'll come back, just as we have from every other economic crises in our history. But will we ever come back politically, after Obama and his Democratic majority in the House and Senate have gutted the Constitution?

But the Left won't see it as an abuse of power. Anything that promotes diversity is fine with them, regardless of its effect on personal freedom. Thus, Muslims can speak against America as they do, with no penalty. If a non-Muslim speaks out against sharia law then it's hate speech.
To an old Cold Warrior like me, it seems that the United States is being seized by a virulent and radical form of leftism.
These lefties, which include the Marxist radical Obama, use the same modes of Orwellian double-speak that the Islamo-fascists use. To today's lefties, "freedom of speech" means freedom only for leftist speech. "Fairness" means only that they must win any election. And if they don't win, it couldn't possibly be because the electorate does not like their ideas, but because there had to have been some kind of conspiracy.
This attitude comes from indoctrination throughout childhood, indoctrination that has formed their very identity. Just as for the Muslims, the lefties are sure in their own minds that they are the superior ones. They are the "nuanced" thinkers, you see, the "new cosmopolitan men," who have "evolved" beyond such quaint, old-fashioned notions such as nation-states, religion, and patriotism. Ensconsed in hives of like-minded drones, they never hear, or permit themselves to hear, any contrary argumentation. And their blunt rejection of objective truth, also a Muslim trademark, enables them to ignore facts, or even to fabricate "new facts," and then, astonishingly, accuse the other side of doing exactly that. And the media lets them get away with this dissembling--because the media are just more like-minded drones of the radical leftist intellectual collective. They must stick together, like the Ummah, to defend the collective against all attackers.
The net result is that, like the Muslims, today's lefties, including the media personalities, react to any criticism of their position on any issue as an attack on their very identity. First, they display contempt for the challenger and try to dismiss his argument as unworthy, or otherwise to ignore it. They figure it is an egregious waste of breath and of their precious time to discuss something that "everyone knows" is hopelessly retrograde and false. When that tactic does not work, they become outraged, launch slanderous personal attacks, and begin to seek political revenge somehow.
Obama has been behaving exactly this way through the entire political campaign, and there is no reason to expect he will do otherwise in office. From American like-minded leftists, the Muslims are going to get a windfall boost to their international assault on our freedoms.
We defenders of the West are all in for a rough ride. Rig for depth charges!

An Obama Administration will attempt to restrict speech. Count on it because diversity to liberals, especially for the Far Left loons, means hearing the same ideas from different liberals. When conservatives speak up, that's not free speech to a liberal but hate speech and thus need not be respected or listenend to----or even allowed.
As an example, look at Fox News. Yes, it tilts right, but it has loads of liberal commentators on a regular basis (e.g., Mara Liason, Juan Williams, Alan Colmes, Kirsten Powers, Ellis Henican, Susan Estrich, etc.). For the Left, though, Fox News is an abomination. NBC or CBS, by contrast, is virtually entirely manned by liberals (with a token conservative like Joe Scarborough here and there). Do you hear the Left ever mention the bias at these two networks? I never have. No one has ever pinned down this double standard better than Bernard Goldberg in his book "Bias." Well worth the read. And, oh yes, an Obama Administration will exercise this particular double standard time and time again.
One must keep in mind that Barack Obama is a product the corrupt world of Chicago Politics. Sometimes one wonders if it might be better to pull out of Chicago than Iraq where there where 292 murders in the last 6 months,compare that to 221 killed in Iraq.
This is of course the city of Senator Dick Durbin who referred to Gtmo as a Nazi concentration camp and if you look at list of people who are running this city you will note that they are all Democrats.Governor Rod Blogojevich, House leader Mike Madigan, Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike), Mayor Richard M. Daley (son of Mayor Richard J. Daley) Democrats all.
Not to mention the unrepentant terrorist William Ayers, and the America hating Reverend Jeremiah Wright. And lets not leave out Obama's work with ACORN that was supposed to be politically neutral, however it turns out that they have been found to be pushing socialist,I mean Democratic Candidates with our US taxes which is also against voting laws.
Of course when the corrupt combat zone of Chicago has problems they have to blame each other because there are no Republicans in Chicago Politics. You might ask yourself why Oprah Winfrey jumped into supporting Barack Obama? It is because Chicago is her base of operation.
Chicago corruption is so bad that the State Pension Fund is 44 billion dollars in debt which is the worst in the country.
Cook County (Chicago) has the highest sales tax in the country, a whopping 10.25 Percent. The Chicago School System is rated as one of the worst in the country.
Folks this is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois. This the man who has spent less than 150 days on the floor of the US Senate. And you really think you know him? Actually most of those who are voting for him couldn't tell you what he really stands for after all there voting for him because they hate President Bush.
And he's gonna 'fix' Washington politics for us!!! ???? SURE HE IS!!!!!

I hope you send similar sentiments to your local paper (and not so local papers). I am nearing 50, the youngest of 5 and a student of history. I see what you see clearly. So many don't and are ill equipped for dialog. It is like Pleasantville; their arguments end in the fog where their ability to think critically terminates.
Within six months of an Obama presidency, the swooners will wonder why they elected him. Within a year they will be howling for his impeachment.

Stendec: I second Civilus Defendus' approbation of your post. Well done. Too bad we don't have an informed and honest media which would point out what you have. But, of course, the MSM are presently nothing but an arm of the Democratic Party, which increasingly has become beholden to the Far Left.
This great nation is in great trouble if the biggest empty suit in American political history becomes the next President. That's why I can respect no one who votes for Obama. I'll forgive the young for doing so but anyone over thirty-five who does so is almost certainly destined to go to their grave never figuring out how the world really works. And that's unforgivable.

The common psychology evident among the leftists and the Mohammedans is fascinating to me and quite scary to contemplate. Some days I feel like Omega Man dealing with The Family, or the guy who has discovered the Pod People. Thank goodness for Robert and his staff and the thoughtful posters at JW/DW.
I write letters when I can, and talk to anyone who will listen, about jihad. My family thinks I've gone 'round the bend--most of them are Dems, with several in the K-12 educational system. I don't know how they'll vote in the coming election, but they tend to lean left on economic grounds--while not being ideologues. So I keep working on them. There's still hope that the light will shine some day. Let's just hope that light, when it comes, is not a nuclear fireball, or "emanations from the penumbra" of Special Order 66.
Still we have a battle on our hands to get a handle on the taquiya practiced by the leftwingers. Yep I think I will refer to it as a form of taquiya as well as stealth liberalism that is trying to hide the truth that connects Barack Obama more and more to William Ayers as these last days are winding down before November 4th.
More and more is coming to the surface about the Ayers/Obama connection . By the way we are now being reminded that even Ayers Terrorist group; the Weathermen tried to attack Fort Dix, yep the same Fort Dix that several Muslims are on trial now for planning an attack.
William Ayers has even gone to Venzuela to meet with Hugo Chavez in the past two years, telling the dictator who is getting chummy with Iran and Mahmoud Ahmadinghad that we have a revolution going on in America to crush Capitalism and the conservative values of America.

Your cavalier dismissal of Bush's very undemocratic, anti-free speech behavior in 2004 worries me deeply. Using the police to arrest and harrass hecklers, many of who did nothing more than sport a Kerry shirt, is the behavior of piggish tyrants. Waht Obama did in Missouri was wrong to, but to condemn Obama while accetpting Bush's behavior is morally reprehensible. Palin seems to be cast from the same mold as Bush, another common, ignorant grunt who would gladly seize and abuse as much power they can grab once they get to Washington, while all maintaining some phony down home image to jerk off the plebes. Of course, only an elitist could object to that.
