Attempts to turn young people away from Islamic extremism are being hampered by politically-correct language, according to a new report.Ministers last year directed councils to use the terms "anti-Islamic activity" and "community resilience" instead of terrorism and extremism, as part of a drive to win over the Muslim community.
But the rebranding has spread confusion and is preventing local authorities and public bodies from talking openly about the radicalisation of young people.
A report for the Home Office and Department for Communities and Local Government found that public services were not communicating policies "for fear that using more direct language may exacerbate community tensions."
It quoted an unnamed council director as saying: "Switching language from 'extremism' to 'community resilience' causes confusion.
"The key thing is about who the words come from - if they come from a respected religious or community member they will have more impact than if it comes from a government minister."
A council chief executive interviewed in the report said: "People are worried about saying the wrong thing and being labelled as racist."
The Audit Commission and Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) report urged the Government to consult local leaders before issuing further directions about how anti-extremism policies should to be communicated.
The report also found that councils and police given more than £6 million to stop young people turning to violent extremism "lacked intelligence" about where to focus resources.
Some 70 councils in England will receive a further £45 million by 2011 as part of the "Prevent" agenda.
The programme is aimed at encouraging Muslims to identify themselves as part of British society, reject extremist ideology and activities, and encourage others to do the same.
The report, Preventing Violent Extremism: Learning And Development, found some police and local authority partnerships "lacked knowledge" about how Prevent schemes should work, and had no means of measuring success or failure.
The Department of Communities said new instructions have been issued to local authorities on improving terror prevention.
Like that has prevented all those Jihad attacks since 9/11. This PC language was a ploy that would create confusion in the infidels and take the focus off the root cause which is Islam. Not only that I wonder if before 9/11 all those hijackings and kidnappings occurred because used non PC language? This the most asinine and idiotic thing to do. The government just does not want the people to know where terrorism is coming from.
Therein is the essence of the problem, isn't it? No Muslim can EVER identify with British society. To do so they would have to renounce their ideology which is diametrically opposed to the values of British society. They would have to renounce their belief in passages of the immutable Islamic canon (Koran, Hadiths & Sira) that command them to reject British values such as freedom of conscience, equality of gender, equal treatment under the law for citizens of all faiths, including those professing no faith. They would have to renounce passages that forbid obedience to "man-made" laws enacted through democratic process by the British Parliament. Muslims can NEVER identify with British society. The leopard can never change its spots, wot?

Just proves that if you "change" the language and toss enough money at something, confusion will reign and those that thrive in between will have the advantage, for now. I just cannot see the muslims honoring the Union Jack, british laws, morals and society. No matter where they have "immigrated" to, muslims have proven time and again they are UNABLE to integrate with the west, be it England, the USA or any other western country. This is a sample of what will be to come in an Obama run administration. PCness is already a blight on western society. It leads to those who embrace this garbage to lower themselves to becoming apologists and compromisers. Neither of which works against islam or muslims. Why should they, the english flag is already detested by the scots and welsh, plus the red cross on a white background means basically "crusader" to the muslims.

If PC'ness isn't bad enough, the arabist in the UN and busily trying to organize Durban II, and propagate the notion that disagreement with any religion (Islam) constitutes hate speech, and Islamaphobia. I've not read what enforcement they are recommending. No doubt it will center somewhere in Belgium or Holland.

No, it means forced usage of the vocabulary preferred by the protected class at issue, and self-censorship where the urge to speak to truth rears its ugly haid.
As to the vocabulary thing, a good example was about 20 yrs ago when the homosexual protected class struck down the word "sex" and replaced it with the word "gender" (up to then a grammatical term). Since that happened what sex you are is a matter of speech, a legalistic ploy intended to emasculate.
