Ajmal's claim that all of the jihadists were Pakistani citizens does not fit other accounts (except in possible cases of dual citizenship), but he also describes a smaller number of jihadists. Time will tell if the rest of his story holds up. "Arrested terrorist says gang hoped to get away," from the Times of India, November 29:
NEW DELHI: The gang of terrorists who wreaked mayhem in Mumbai for three days were made to believe by their Lashkar bosses that they were not being sent on a suicide mission and that they would be coming back alive.
In a sensational disclosure made by Ajmal, the jihadi nabbed alive by Mumbai cops, the group had planned to sail out on Thursday. Their recruiters had even charted out the return route for them and stored it on the GPS device which they had used to navigate their way to the Mumbai shoreline.
This suggests that the terrorists were willing to undertake a mission which they knew would be very risky, but not necessarily suicidal.
Sources said that the bait of safe return must have been used by the recruiters to convince the wavering among the group to join the audacious plot against Mumbai.
Ajmal made another important disclosure: that all terrorists were trained in marine warfare along with the special course Daura-e-Shifa conducted by the Lashkar-e-Taiba in what at once transforms the nature of the planning from a routine terror strike and into a specialized raid by commandos.
Battle-hardened ATS officials are surprised by the details of the training the terrorists were put through before being despatched for the macabre mission. This was very different from a terrorist attack, and amounted to an offensive from the seam, said a source.
Ajmal has revealed the name of his fellow jihadis all Pakistani citizens as Abu Ali, Fahad, Omar, Shoaib, Umer, Abu Akasha, Ismail, Abdul Rahman (Bara) and Abdul Rahman (Chhota).
The account of Ajmal also strengthens the doubt of the complicity of powerful elements in the Pakistani establishment. According to him, the group set off on November 21 from an isolated creek near Karachi without the deadly cargo of arms and ammunition they were to use against the innocents in Mumbai. The group received arms and ammunition on board a large Pakistani vessel which picked them up the following day. The vessel, whose ownership is now the subject of an international probe, had four Pakistanis apart from the crew.
A day later, they came across an Indian-owned trawler, Kuber, which was promptly commandeered on the seas. Four of the fishermen who were on the trawler were killed, but its skipper, or tandel in fishermen lingo, Amarjit Singh, was forced to proceed towards India. Amarjit was killed the next day, and Ismail the terrorist who was killed at Girgaum Chowpaty took the wheel.
A trained sailor, Ismail used the GPS to reach Mumbai coast on November 26. The group, however, slowed down its advance as they had reached during the day time while the landing was planned after dusk. The group shifted to inflatable boats, before disembarking at Badhwar Park in Cuffe Parade.
From there, they mandated to kill indiscriminately, particularly white foreign tourists, and spare Muslims split up into five batches. Two of them Ismail and Ajmal took a taxi to Victoria Terminus. Three other batches of two each headed for Oberoi Hotel, Cafe Leopold and Nariman House. The remaining four went to Taj Hotel. [...]
Kasab told the police that he and 9 others got off a vessel about 10 nautical miles from Mumbai and shifted to two boats hijacked from fishermen.
One source in ATS familiar with the details of the interrogation quoted him saying that in all 16 fidayeens came to Mumbai on Wednesday. A native of Faridkot in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), 21-year-old Kasab told police they had done a reccee of Mumbai few months ago. He said he had come along with eight of the operatives to Mumbai as students and lived in a rented room at Colaba market, a stone's throw away from Nariman House.
Pakistan is evil. Lashkar-e-Taiba is a creation of the Pakistani ISI and operates today thanks to Pakistan either overtly or tacitly approving of its operations. Pakistanis are perhaps the most Islamist people in the world. They may not have the money of Saudi Arabia, but they make up for it in zealotry.
I sincerely hope that the Australian Defence Forces, Coastguard and ASIO are taking careful notes and drawing appropriate conclusions. (My fellow jihadwatchers: take a good long look at a map of the world, and where Australia lies, and you will understand why).
I also hope that other non-Muslim nations with port cities are learning from what happened at Mumbai.
This has happened before. The Muslim invasion of Spain was preceded by raid after raid upon coastal towns and villages, with the intent of causing economic destruction and political and social chaos, spreading terror. Muslim jihadi pirates constantly raided the coastal villages of southern Europe and even as far away as Baltimore in Ireland in the 17th century, the coast of Cornwall, and Iceland: butchering men and old people and seizing women and children to take away into slavery.
This is a classic razzia or ghazi, undertaken in order to 'soften up' the targeted non-Muslim society or polity.
Read Andrew Bostom's 'The Legacy of Jihad' and you will find descriptions of this practice.

That's a lot of detail coming from one jihadist...He must be singing like a bird...
This may signal a new trend in attacks that look more like open warfare. A few guys with surprise on their side can do a lot of damage, as we have seen.
From article: Two of them Ismail and Ajmal took a taxi to Victoria Terminus.
Now that's great planning, considering that they planned to escape, were they going to call a cab for the return ride???
'Pick us up here in fifteen minutes'???
I thought these guys were well trained...
There well stupid is what they are they thought they would get away this is how brainwashed these peopler are no escapr plan yet they where told they woiuld get away.
duh_swami
I think the idea was (if the story is true) that they could commandeer a vehicle back to their escape boats. Some of them did take several police vehicles.
The idea could work. Hit and run missions if planned well could cause havoc in major cities. Look at how they were dressed, like normal Mumbai teens and young hip adults with no beards, no Islamic dress. This would give them a better chance to not be noticed, but if escape was possible they could do so by blending back into the population.
If you storm a small area of a major city with enough well trained armed people you can gain local superiority over the police for a small period of time. It is clear the Indians were taken by surprise, not by the attack itself, but how well trained the attackers were.
greatcometof1577...I think the idea was (if the story is true) that they could commandeer a vehicle back to their escape boats. Some of them did take several police vehicles.
Yeah, your right, steal police cars, better than waiting for a cab...
I wonder if Ismail and Ajmal paid the taxi driver or just shot him...
Well i disagree they went into holtels trying to get western hostages taking away the get away quick idea maybe they where going to try to deal with hostages foir money but they could not possibley have taken over hotels for long periods of time thinking they would get away.
spcbat
I am not saying it was easy or even possible in this case, but it is clear Ajmal (the dummy, after all he got captured) thought he was going to.
Afterall…
“They said come sail away, come sail away Come sail away with me”..
Sorry, I am not a fan of Styx, but I could not help it…
In truth it is possible it could have worked, but it would have to be quick and kept to the ground levels, clubs, dinning areas where you could rack a quick kill and bug out…
I think you are right, it was a one way mission…lets wait and see when more info comes in. For all I know like typical young people they became over confident and hung out too long.
The lesson is it can be done here in America, and yes they could get away if they did it with speed, had enough man power, kill as many as possible in allotted amount of time, strike the police who first arrive hard, and get out by blending back into population for enough time to gain enough distance from the location of the attack. It has nothing to do with hostages. We have to take that into account. Not all Jihadi missions are one way...
The kind of firepower they had would overwhelm most police forces in this country.
It seems to me that all kafir in all kafir lands need to be studying up on the kinds of things 'undaunted' is telling us about.
Furthermore: everyone over the age of 10 can do a basic first-aid course: that way, even if you're a kid/ elderly/ female/ pregnant, you can be of use if you are outside the focus of an attack but are confronted with injured people fleeing. And learning basic first aid would be a good idea, even if there were no Global Jihad (Patrick Sookhdeo's phrase - he used it as the title of a book) coming our way.
Everyone can sign up for basic self-defence classes - e.g. asian martial arts such as wing chun kung fu. Again, such skills are worth having even if one were not threatened by Jihad; infidel lands have muggers and rapists.
Britishers might consider getting in touch with groups such as the Society for Creative Anachronism, and learning how to handle the quarterstaff and the longbow. Quarterstaff skills mean that even a broom can become an effective weapon. Or perhaps the Sikhs in various places should consider giving classes in certain kinds of skills?
And in Australia, for example, we should look favorably on some kind of national service for all citizen children. NOT to waste them in hellholes like Afghanistan or Pakistan: the aim should be first and foremost, homeland defence. Model: Singapore, Switzerland, Israel.
Someone who has had training will react differently even to an emergency that happens suddenly on the street while they are in civvies - as witness what happened in Jerusalem, during the Mercaz Harav massacre, and when that Arab jihadist ran amok with an earthmover - in both cases an offduty IDF soldier knew what to do to stop the bad guy, and simply moved in and did it while everyone else was panicking.

Here is were some of them did use a police van to attack well...the police.

I guess Bombay wasn't far enough to warrant these guys taking a plane, so they took a boat instead...

I mentioned quarterstaff in light of some of the very distressing stories Richard the Lionheart has been telling us about the level of surveillance.
I thought that the acquisition, disguised as a historical enthusiasm, of old-fashioned high level non-firearm-related fighting skills might slip by under the radar, so to speak (hence the reference to asian martial arts, as well); and anything is better than nothing.
And the ability to use, for example, a broom or fence paling with deadly skill, might be of use when people are mugged (as happened to our friend Richard, by his own account) by 'youths' who are themselves only armed with sticks or knives.
I am sure that English and Scottish and Welsh farmers and land-holders, and vets, are still possessed of the needful for putting down terminally-injured or ill livestock, and could, if necessary, employ same in other circumstances, as required.
I would urge all American infidels to acquire at least a handgun before Hussein Obama, Pelosi, and Reid tax arms and bullets into unaffordability so that they can have their ideal Stalinist police state. And they keep raccoons and possums away from your birdfeeders and your ferals' cat food. I convinced my mom to get an air pistol. It looks real and it scares the possums and raccoons. I feel safer knowing that she has it.
"I wanna shoot a jihadi".
They ought to set that to music.
Some new details:
The death toll could reach 350 according to Indian officials.
A number of terrorists were Bangladeshis.
The captain of the boat was beheaded - (This suggests he may not have been a Muslim).
"I wanna shoot a jihadi".
They ought to set that to music.

You are so right.
Maybe someone can help me with this. Why is the United States consumed with solving the so-called Palestinian - Israeli conflict and not the Kashmiri - Indian conflict?
Why doesn't the U.S. Secretary of State conduct all these shuttle missions between India and Pakistan in behalf or the Kashmir dispute, like she does between the Israelis and the Palestinians?

I know..I was just kidding around about the quarterstaff. If I remember correct the UK banned the importation of certain swords (like the samurai sword for example) because they could be used as a weapon. My point was if the British relaxed their weapons laws people might be able to defend themselves with things other than quarterstaffs.
It is clear the dhimmi government of the UK is not going to stop Muslim immigration, which is a weapon all onto itself.
With that said, we in America are not perfect. I remember a "terror expert" after 9-11 explain that a rolled up newspaper or magazine could be used as a weapon against Terrorist taking over a plane. Now can you imagine some 80 year old woman hitting some jihadi in the head with a rolled up newspaper...
Yes...That will stop him...
Every civilian in the UK has the same right to own a firearm as the landed gentry and working farmers already do. The major problem however is of course the current system and its police state mentalty that sees a disarmed public as one less criminal on its way to universal peace.
A membership to any recognised gun club that takes part in national or internation shooting events gives Joe average just as good a reason to own a sporting rifle as individuals who work with animals or require such tools for pest control.
I stree that this does not mean people will have access to military spec weapons as regulation on weapon technology/capabilities are extensive and enforced.
