As many as 100 Somali Muslims who are current and former workers at Gold'n Plump Inc. will receive a total of $365,000 in a settlement of federal lawsuits alleging religious discrimination at the company's chicken processing plants in Cold Spring, Minn., and Arcadia, Wis.So they shouldn't have signed the forms; they should've looked for pork-free employment.The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) alleged in a lawsuit filed in September that St. Cloud-based Gold'n Plump violated federal law by terminating Somali workers who prayed during their work shifts. The EEOC alleged in a separate lawsuit that the Work Connection Inc., an employment agency in St. Paul, required applicants for jobs at Gold'n Plump to sign forms acknowledging that they might be required to handle pork.

Under a settlement approved by a federal judge Friday, Gold'n Plump has agreed to add a paid break during each shift to accommodate Muslim employees who wish to pray. The Work Connection has agreed to stop using the pork form.Gold'n Plump also has agreed to pay $215,000 to workers who were terminated for taking prayer breaks. The Work Connection will pay $150,000 to workers who were asked to sign the pork form. The EEOC estimates that 40 to 100 workers will qualify for the payments.
Are there any employers then who will continue to hire Somali muslims? And if so, with this as a precedent, why?
Could employers be forced to hire Somali (or other) Muslims, knowing that despite signed declarations they would still sue if they had to handle pork or other distasteful items (according to Islam)?
I wonder what will happen in then world of manufacturing employment with this going on.
How do human resources managers regard these matters?

They might be forced to, if there are any Somali Moslems in the area looking for work.
For many years, in the company I worked for, the personnel department worked under the rules of a federal court order which specified that all hiring of new employees, and all promotions, had to comply with federal (EEOC, I believe) rules against discrimination. There was even an EEOC office, with a couple of staff, attached to the company personnel office, to make sure that an acceptable number of minority applicants were hired. Of course, the company had to pay the costs of these EEOC drones.
No wonder companies locate plants outside the U.S. It's not just to escape high wage costs. It's to escape this kind of government harassment and government-enforced expenses.
And this is how the dominos' began to fall.
As I have said many times before on Jihadwatch, it is the trial lawyers who dictate behavior and policy in America on how people, and companies must behave today, It is the trial lawyers who are slowly undermining the values of the American Labor force.

The paramount issue here is surely individual responsibility.
If some of the activities of a prospective employer are personally objectionable, then look elsewhere for work. Why put oneself and others in an uncomfortable position when other alternatives are available.
This is another example of Muslims convinced of their Allah-given superiority imposing upon the lives and good will of others, most of whom bear no particular ill will towards Muslims. Is it any wonder that Muslims frequently are unwelcome in civilised company?

Appliclant: By the way, I don't do windows.
Prospective Employer: But you've applied for a position as a window washer. If you're offered this job and accept it you will have to wash windows.
Applicant: This is clearly religious discrimination - I am so going to sue you.
I really don't see what was wrong with the employment agency's 'pork form'. It seems like a good means of disclosing the nature of the employment so as to preclude any misunderstanding. I've had to sign forms for employment. Forms stating I don't do drugs, forms stating I will not divulge company proprietrary information. Every year at my work we sign the code of conduct agreement.
It's just nuts, I tell ya.
Ebonystone, under no circumstances does any employer have to ever hire Somalis or anyone from the Muslim world. Employers can refuse to hire them for any number of reasons, among them:
1) Slovenly appearance
2) Inflexibility with regard to hours (i.e., Ramadan)
3) Lack of references
4) Lack of legitimate education (the equivalent of a Guatemalan 1st-grade education is completely unattainable anywhere in the Muslim world, and this applies even in janitoral or meat-packing jobs); at no school in any Sharia state can anyone even learn that the Earth is round
5) Inferiority to other applicants (usually Mexicans) in terms of work ethic, appearance, education, flexibility, and references
6) No employer has to hire anyone who doesn't speak English. This means hiring translators, which is not a burden that can be enforced on an employer.
7) Interviewees should always be women, preferably tiny, white, Jewish women, and if an applicant says or does anything that can even hypothetically be regarded as insubordinate they should not be hired. This includes refusing to shake hands.
Nobody should hire Somalis. Nobody has to. Let this be a lesson to any and all employers. Viva Mejico!

Is right and the US company should have done more research and maybe referenced this website before hiring Somali Muslims. Gosh I mean look at what is going on in Somalia where these Muslims come from piracy, kidnapping, and chaos all because of Islam. EEOC is setting a precedence that allows Muslims to take prayer brakes. Wow you know while the infidels will be working, not good not at all.

I do believe it is time to find out who this federal judge is and have him/her removed from the bench (recall election or something). It seems there is a clear separation of church and state in the US for all religions EXCEPT islam. Now I am an agnostic but I still believe in the great god Baccus and will pray to him and partake in my religious taboos (having a few martinis) during my work shift. If I get fired I can always use this court case to my advantage and sue my employer.

I read a (pretty) brilliant book, "Age of Tolerance" by Glen Reinsford - it is a novel but also a cautionary tale for a generation that has more to lose than it may realise. I certainly hope American employers are paying attention to what muslims are doing in the workplace. Since when is an employer obligated to allow "prayer time" during working hours to a specific group of employees? Liberal trial lawyers, the ACLU, and islamic advocacy groups like CAIR are encouraging more manufacturing companies to move out of the country. It never ceases to amaze me how liberal judges can pull employee "rights" out of thin air and punish employers for conducting business as they have conducted it for decades, never challenged until muslims arrived on the scene with their lawyers, union advocates, and CAIR. Wow, just look at all the "rights" American workers never knew they had.
Muslims are nothing but trouble. If naive employers hire them, they are subjected to union harassment, threats of lawsuits, endless litigation, and lousy employees. When it reaches the point where nobody will hire them, they'll just go on welfare and the taxpayers will be forced to support them. A lose, lose proposition. Why are these savages here? This country is going to literally fall apart in its ever expanding efforts to ensure that no member of any minority group is ever discriminated against. A nation consists of compatible people sharing one culture, otherwise it's not a nation.

Does a Sioux/ Lakota person have any right, in your eyes, to pray the Lord's Prayer in Sioux rather than in English if he or she so chooses; to sing to her baby the Sioux lullaby her grandmother taught her, if she so chooses; and to write, sing, pray and talk with her family in Sioux, rather than in English, as and when she pleases? Or what of the Navajo (remember those Code-Talkers?)? Or the speakers of the other 100 or so indigenous languages?
What do you think of the efforts of the Bible Society and Summer Institute of Linguistics, for example, to translate the Bible into those indigenous languages of North America? Should those efforts be stopped at once, in the name of National Unity? The complete Navaho Bible came out in 2004; was that, in your view, a good thing or a bad?
Better hurry up, ban and burn the existing indigenous-language Bibles and New Testaments - after all, it was the Welsh Bible that kept the Welsh language alive, despite the best efforts of the English authorities to stamp out the evil, primitive, inferior and seditious Welsh language.
Should those Aboriginal - Aboriginal, NOT foreign/ immigrant - languages, which have been spoken and sung in North America for millennia, be deliberately and forcibly suppressed as rapidly as possible, in the interests of National Unity,? Should those First Nations peoples who are Christian, be required by law to pray and worship and read scripture ONLY in English, English, English?
Allow yourself to reflect on the fact that when the Russians ruled Poland, the Poles were forbidden even to say the Lord's Prayer in Polish rather than in Russian. If they were caught, they were punished - just as, in the 19th century, the English schoolteachers would BEAT Welsh schoolkids they caught speaking Welsh in the playground...in Wales!
You surely do not want, vis a vis Sioux Christians or Navajo Christians, to behave toward them as those Russians behaved towards the Poles. Or how, until recently, the Arabs have behaved towards the Berbers, and the Turks toward the Kurds...legislating to forbid them from using their mother tongues even at home.
This is just a worry that I have. I guess it's because I'm a 'language junkie', and every time a human language goes extinct it really is like someone bulldozing a cathedral; so alarm bells ring when I hear people from the dominant group, in countries with smaller people-groups who speak endangered languages, going on and on about how there must be JUST ONE LANGUAGE language (of course, that of the dominant group),or everything will fall apart.
