She spent 2 years in prison for killing her uncle in self-defense: he had stabbed her mother and was attacking her and her brother -- all for, as is common, converting to Christianity. But now that she's been released, her extended Muslim family plans on giving her a bit of good ol' fashioned Islamic justice.

The uncle had cut her mother and was fiercely beating them for converting to Christianity and for “shaming” the family by working in public when Muhammad stabbed him. Her lawyer, Akram Al-Najar, told Compass that the court earlier agreed to reduce her sentence to two years and four months on the basis of her good conduct and having served nearly three-quarters of her three-and-a-half year sentence.
But Muhammad’s release from prison now means a possible retaliation from extended family members for her uncle’s death, said Al-Najar.
“I am not sure she is safe right now, especially after her release, since there are still people intent on gaining revenge,” said the lawyer. Muhammad’s father, Ahmad Muhammad Abdurahman, said that in the last week family members have called him twice telling him his days of joy are numbered. “My sisters called me, and my brother’s wife called me also [and said], ‘You are a shame. Don’t be happy in your family; we will never let you be happy in your family,’” Abdurahman told Compass.
This is just one more good reason why it's so very easy to hate islam and its god.

That this girl served *any* time in prison for a purely defensive act--protecting herself, her mother and little brother--is just wrong.
Will the Iraqi authorities do anything now to protect this girl and the Christian branch of her family from her murderous Muslim relatives? Or will her family have to flee the country and hope they can gain asylum in a saner region of the world?
Remember, this is a Muslim country *after* the West has tried to bring it democracy and the rule of law. Were it not, young Maria probably would have been executed for the "crime" of standing up to her uncle's unprovoked violence.
Thank God for America. Seriously. Thank God we can kill people in self-defense and own guns for just that purpose. I wish there were a way to make Muslims understand that people like this are martyrs, not sickos who blow people up.
When are the non-OIC countries going to show some courage and stand up for the non-muslim communities being persecuted in the OIC countries?
In many OIC countries, Christians, athiests and many other people who are non-Muslims are being hunted down and killed while the West does nothing.
Tsarist Russia acted more strongly against the Ottoman Empire about their treatment of Christians than the collective Western powers are doing now.

Under Sharia law - kuffirs cannot defend themselves. Muslim family members have a right to compensation for the uncle's death.
