"Tuesday's Religion of Peace Wrap-up," from Weasel Zippers:
Nothing exceptional, just another day.....Bus Stop, Market Blasts Kill 16, Wound 43 In Iraq- AHN
Taliban Suicide Attack Kills 7 - Daily Times
2 bombs in southern Thailand wound 71- AP
Taliban Open Fire on Police, 3 Killed - The News
This is just one day's roundup. Meanwhile, do not despair, moral equivalence fans: the worldwide hunt continues for extremists who justify their violent actions by reference to the texts and teachings of Christianity!
There is a word for extremists who commit violent actions... soldiers. Whether those soldiers are Muslims or Christians, they will justify their violent actions as doing God's work. Sometimes that is the only justification, but usually there is a secular justification also. With Christians you pretend that they act only for secular reasons and never on blind religious faith, but with Muslims you pretend they act only for non-secular reasons.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that Christians are as bad as Muslims, because I couldn't suggest such a thing with a straight face. But it is definately not unheard of for Christian soldiers to justify violent acts with religious beliefs.
I'm also not suggesting that Muslims kill only for secular reasons. Some Muslims kill for secular reasons, but way too many kill only for Jihad, and most violent Muslims kill for both reasons.
NeverAMuslim, what your point?
NeverAMuslim, what is your point? Which crowd of pepole would you least feel confortable around, a bunch of US Marines or Sadr's army?
That's a vile thing to say, particularly about not just American, but soldiers from a wide variety of (although not all) countries who are only too happy to enjoy peacetime, and only go into action when called for. There are noble reasons why soldiers are called to war - defense of freedom, defense of people and property, destruction of forces of evil (such as Jihadis), et al. To equate them to Jihadis, or 'extremists who commit violent actions' as you so euphemistically put it, is nothing short of moral bankrupcy.
Obviously the war on terror hasn't worked. No one cares about fighting jihad. If they did, they would be fighting Islam.
Let's see what damage Obama can do.
America gave the world what it wanted.
World: you might find you should have been careful what you wished for.
But it is definately not unheard of for Christian soldiers to justify violent acts with religious beliefs.
NeverAMuslim,
Care to point out a few examples - in the modern world? This means say, from 1980 to the present.
(and it's definitely)
ShouldBeAMuslim,
Wrong, but thank you for playing. I can assure you--yes, from personal experience--that the training of US military personnel does not include any indoctrination into any religion.
Soldiers are men and women with a job. They go where they are sent and do the job they were trained to do. Soldiers, like anyone else with a job, have personal reasons for having chosen to accept said job. There are probably as many reasons to be a soldier as there are soldiers.
You are beneath contempt.

That is SOOOOOOOO true.
And we are going to see O fall on his face, no doubt about it. This will be a classic example of "getting what you wished for."

if would feel confortable around a bunch of Sadr's army. as long as they're dead.
I just finished reading Islam unveiled, which was very good.
I even got the chance to suggest the book to someone I know (I happened to have it with me), when they mentioned someone she knew who gave her a book about Christianity is inferior to Islam, and I also gave the name of the book to someone else there.
I'm going to look at reading the book you linked to next.
