It sprang from allegations of religious discrimination at the company's chicken processing plants in Cold Spring and Arcadia, Wis.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed lawsuits against St. Cloud-based Gold'n Plump and the Work Connection Inc., an employment agency in St. Paul, which handled some hiring for the plant.
Under the settlement, Gold'n Plump agreed to pay $215,000 to workers who were terminated for taking prayer breaks.
The Work Connection will pay $150,000 to workers who were asked to sign a form acknowledging that they might be required to handle pork, which many Muslims consider unclean....
So the proposition that Muslims have special privileges in American society, to which others are not privy, is now enshrined in precedent.

It's only a matter of time. Sooner or later, most of them will be caught flouting the terms of their employment. I'm sure their fellow workers (the American kind, born here, or naturalized) will be watching them very closely.

The problem is the federal statute and not its enforcement. Congress could easily repeal or limit Title VII but won't do it.
I was doing some research on PTSD, from which I suffer after having been stalked by a Muhammadan at school. I throw up every time I have to go to class and it sucks. Since PTSD is usually characterized by feeling unsafe when one actually is pretty safe, and since I not only have to keep returning to every place that makes me feel unsafe, but I actually am completely unsafe, my PTSD may not be surmountable. Anyway, I read an article about veterans with PTSD who get service dogs. They're allowed to take them everywhere the public is allowed. Not only does it violate federal law for anyone to ask why they have service dogs, but it's also illegal to in any way outwardly take issue with someone having a service dog. So that's the answer: MORE SERVICE DOGS. I'm asking my psychologist about it on Monday. Not only would it make me feel safe, but it would do double duty as Muhammadan repellent. They could help root out Muslims in every workplace. MORE SERVICE DOGS! Plus it gives more dogs homes and it even gives prisoners something to do, since many of them are trained in prisons. I'm sooooo getting one.

getting a service dog, to take with you everywhere, sounds like a great idea. If you can, get a big BLACK dog (since Mohammedans are superstitiously afraid of same, believing them to be 'Satan').

In the suburb I live in, there was a series of rapes - women were seized from ambush as they went jogging along local bicycle paths beside the creek in the park.

I have PTSD, too. Not so badly that I can't go places I have to go, without being sick, but I suffer panic attacks when there's absolutely no reason for them. I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night, feeling pure adrenaline, nausea, dread, all that good stuff.
Panic, despite medication, still blindsides me, no matter where I am.
Anyway, I finally did get my big black dog, as I had been thinking about, for a while, and mentioned in passing in another thread, ages ago. She's a beautiful Lab-German Shepherd mix, and she hasn't a single white hair. I adopted her from the SPCA.
I had no idea that PTSD was a legitimate reason for having a service dog. That's great! I wonder if the dog can be one's own, or if you have to obtain it from a trainer, for it to be legal. Do either of you know?
jdamn, have you ever tried Emetrol, or its generic equivalent? It's non-prescription, very sweet and syrupy, but it works like a charm, for my nausea. I never go anywhere without a bottle. If you haven't, it's usually in the aisle with the antacids and the Pepto-Bismol.

The "award" of $360,000 to 100 Muslims works out to $3,600 apiece, which is probably on the order of a month's severance pay. Good riddance. Excuse me if my knowledge of the law is a bit rusty BUT it appears these workers were told PRIOR to accepting the position for which they were hired that in the course of there employment that they might be required to handle pork. If this was told to them and explained to them how during a work shift they would as part of their job duties they might be required to handle pork and they acknowledged this fact and stated it would not be a problem and were then asked to sign a form acknowledging this fact and they now say it is against their religion and they can not handle pork, their employment can be terminated for (possibly) lying on their application and lying during their interview and in lying on this employment duties form. Why is this Work Connection paying a dime?
Why is it that none of our lawyers will stand up for the law but rather duck and run just to try and keep their heads on their shoulders? Are the muslims that powerful?

I was wondering about that myself, what is the purpose of the form in the first place if not to serve as a written acknowledgment of the terms of employment? Unless it's something along the lines of the very existence of the form (and it's 'traumatizing effect' or similar such jargon) being called into question by some ACLU legal brown shirts. Appears to coyly play on the precedent and policy (product of MBA inspired culture and tactics) of corporations settling to avoid the long haul fight, regardless if they can win it.
