Beware of guys like this roaming around the markets
Long-haired men with flowing beards -- indicative of the Taliban -- have reappeared in Peshawar, worrying locals and business owners of renewed threats, violence.

The long-haired men, typical of the Taliban operating in the tribal agencies of Waziristan, Bajaur and Mohmand, had gone underground following the launching of the military operation against Bara-based Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) of Mangal Bagh in late June this year.[...]
Though, the long-haired men did not issue threats to boutiques displaying mannequins, coffee shops playing music or internet cafes and CD shops, their presence has spread a wave a fear among the dwellers and shop owners who are already living in a state of peril because of the increasing incidents of violence and unabated kidnappings of businessmen, common citizens, NGO persons and foreign diplomats.
In the month of June, groups of such people from Bara would visit markets and distribute warning letters to shop owners or issue them direct threats to stop playing music or cable TV and avoid displaying photographs of actresses or women models in their shops.
However, the limited scale operation in Bara suppressed the trend and the inhabitants and businessmen of the walled city took a sigh of relief, though for a temporary period.
But the recent reappearance of the Taliban-styled men, now from Mohmand and Khyber, has once again disturbed the already harassed people.
Owner of a boutique dealing in women’s garments and cosmetics, who wished not to be named, said the ratio of women customers had drastically reduced following the recent blast, the incidents of kidnapping and the reappearance of the Taliban-styled guys in the markets.
Mohammad Shoib, a government employee, told Daily Times that he accompanied his children to school in the morning and back home in the afternoon.
“This is a tough routine, but I have no other option,” he said. Shoib added that he used to send his children to school with a rickshaw wala, but the increasing incidents of kidnapping and lawlessness forced him to accompany his children from home to school and vice versa.

The American Taliban and Al Qaeda trained John Walker Lindh was given every opportunity to assist American CIA officer Johnny Mike Spann and come forward with information of an uprising in the detention camp that was brewing, but he chose not to. In the ensuing battle hundreds died and Walker Lindh was flushed out with water like the rat he is while others drowned, he survived.
Among many other things he did to deserve his sentence was his E mails justifying the attack on the USS Cole to family and friends. He was extremely lucky to get off with such a light sentence. unfortunately some protocols where not properly followed in the detention of this slime ball and traitor to America. Most of the charges where dropped except two,otherwise he could have received up too 2 life sentences without the chance of parole.
He is one lucky traitor if one can really look at it that way. I can't imagine this guy walking our streets 10 years from now.

I'm still waiting on the locals (like those who enjoy listening to music and flying kites) to rise up and kill these guys. But they never do.

My childrens' second grade teacher, years ago moved to Afghanistan when her daughter had married an Afghan. She eventually fled to Pakistan when the Taliban threatened her family's lives. In a series of emails she described what it was like to live as a white, Christian, foreigner under the Taliban and in Pakistan. Needless to say, it was not pretty.
What struck me, in this article, was something she repeatedly said in her emails. Basically, that everyone knew who the bad guys were. One look was all it took. She described eating in a Pakistani restaurant, when the atmosphere would go stone cold, when a foreign fighter would enter the eatery. How in a market place, everything would stop, when a "bad guy" would walk past.
So the locals in Peshawar have good reason to worry when the "bad guys" start to appear. Everybody knows who the "bad guys" are. Unfortunately, if you wait for something to happen before action is taken, that only assures that something bad--will happen.

But, if you think about it, the ex-Hippies were able to take over the high schools and colleges, the very places to best pursue that dream. Hell, they run the country now.

You said it! There are people in those towns who know who is doing this. They know who is behind all the bad things that happen to them. They're fellow Muslims so all is right. The only people they have the nerve to kill are non-Muslims. All they can do in the face of gangs is protest the US.
My prayer is that when we finally exit that hell hole we take none of them with us.
Can you imagine the number of fleas on that guy? A one-man bubonic plague breeding ground.

What do you mean 'used to be'?
We have more long haired bearded men around here than you can shake a stick at. Most of them (but not all) look better than Johnny in the picture.
The majority are liberals, living in tents, old school buses, and caves along our local river.
They are, generally speaking, better behaved than the Taliban, but that's because they smoke a lot of pot and are usually stoned. They do play a lot of music though. Bongo's, congas, and guitars.
So for clarification, all Taliban may be long haired and bearded, but not all long haired and bearded men are Taliban.
Many of them are just stoned hippies...
Haven't we seen that fellow on the left before? "So easy a Taliban can do it."

That's true. I live in the South and the long-haired bearded guys (of which there are lots) are peace-loving and usually know a lot about backyard gardening...
Most of the Taliban also consists of drug addicts who don't care much about living or dying. Their wish for 'martyrdom' is very frequently granted by Danish troops and others in the area.
