Closing the American school and cultural center, he says, was just the beginning. Are the Syrians working on something with their bosses in Tehran? "Syria FM: US may face 'painful' measures over raid," from AP, November 2 (thanks to Eleutheria ´H Thanatos):
Syria's foreign minister said that his country may resort to more "painful" measures if the United States doesn't give an official explanation for a deadly cross-border raid.Syria retaliated to the Oct. 26 US raid that it says killed eight people by ordering the closure of an American school and cultural center in Damascus.
But Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem said that those measures were "introductory." He warned Syria could escalate its response in the future. He did not elaborate....
"more painful" than what?
Let's just break diplomatic relations and be done with it.
Greetings:
Hopefully, the American raid was "introductory" too.
Pound sand, President Assad, you've got plenty.
ooohhh... I'm scared!
Ronald Reagan
to the chinless Assad, your next!
Interesting comment on the election in a jpost.com letter:
Crucial qualification
Sir, - Martin Indyk and Michael Rosen had interesting op-eds on Barack Obama ("Obama passes the kishke test" and "Our concerns can't be wished away," both November 2) but neither dealt with a crucial foreign policy qualification: How much does the candidate understand about Islam?
It's just not possible to make sensible decisions without having a firm grasp of the most important underlying ideological motivator in the Middle East.
Unfortunately, neither of the candidates has evinced much insight or knowledge on the subject. At least the Republicans have been willing to openly mention "Islamic fundamentalist extremism" once in a while - but that's about as profound as the weatherman announcing rain.
Until the US public realizes the importance of this issue and demands accountability, it will continue to make tragic, if well-intentioned, mistakes.
Are they gong to make us watch the movie "Ishtar" (with Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman) ?
Oh, the horror.............
In the old 'axis of evil', the governments of N.Korea, Iran and Iraq were listed. I have since thought that if you ever added a fourth, it would be Syria.
From the article:
"Syria retaliated to the Oct. 26 US raid that it says killed eight people by ordering the closure of an American school and cultural center in Damascus."
Two can play at that game.
How about the closure of an Islamic school and an Islamic Cultural Centre, somewhere in the USA? Even better: close two, or three, or four: start with those that have been associated with illegal activity (e.g. fraud) and/ or jihad activity/ incitement - for example, those schools whose textbooks have been manifestly teaching hate for all kafir and a special brand of hatred toward the Jews.
Syria has denounced a US strike on its territory but sources say Damascus secretly backed the raid
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article5062848.ece
The US and Iraqi forces have known for years now that as much as 50 Pct. of the sunni militants, or Arab Jihadists that are coming into Iraq are doing it though Syria while the Syrian Government looks the other way.
The Syrian Government is known to have a strong intelligence force and no bird can fly over the Golan Heights, but when it comes to ... the Iraqi side they say they do not have the equipment or don't have this or that.
The fact is that the Syrians are totally complicit in allowing for the murder of thousands of Iraqis from suicide bombers Etc.who move easily through the Syrian border.
However President Bush should have brought evidence forward to the UN in denouncing Syria's involvment in allowing Syria to be safe haven as well as a launching point for the attacks on not only the Iraqis' but American and coalition troops as well.
Gitmo: politics and meddling instead of trials

Bring it on.
"... faces painful measures..."
Spoken like practiced torturers?
Jihad is just a moose in the sights of the Palin inclined.
It's becoming clear that Damascus did indeed sanction the hit.
The operation, which was intended to be fast and bloodless, was meant to target Al Qaeda commander Badran Turki Hashim al-Mazidih — also known as Abu Ghadiya — an Iraqi-born terrorist in his late twenties, according to the paper.
Syrian officials — who feared Ghadiya as a threat to the secular regime in Damascus — plotted to have U.S. forces kidnap him and take him to Iraq for questioning.
So...we ended up doin' some wetwork there for the Syrians. If you check out the whole story, like so many operations of this kind, not all went as planned. Still...got a few that needed gettin'.
Yeah, so this way they get rid of a POS that was a threat to them and us,(this has not been confirmed yet.) and they get to do horrible things to us like close a school and such. I can hear them callin' us names now and threatinin' to hurt us in various ways. What a crack up.
Islam is a lie and truth is killing it.
So Damascus sanctions the hit and then it threatens the US with reprisal for the hit.
Lesson: there is no working with Muslim governments. Ignore them. Leave them alone. Just make sure that Americans know they travel to all of these countries at their own risk. Only non-Muslims can be allowed to enter the US. No "persecuted" Muslim can be granted asylum, ever again. There are fifty six other Muslim states for him to go to.

Killing dickheads. Got it?
They yap like dogs because their bite isn't big enough.
