"Peace" Taliban style: that is, stoning for adulterers, amputation for thieves, execution of homosexuals and apostates, closing of girls' schools -- the works. Of course, since Sharia is the highest law of the land according to the Afghan Constitution currently in effect, the present regime is not too far from this already, and is Taliban Lite at best.
"Obama can usher in 'era of peace,' Taliban says," from AP, November 5:
ISLAMABAD, Nov. 5 (AP) - The Afghan Taliban on Wednesday called upon U.S. President-elect Barack Obama to withdraw troops from Afghanistan and usher in an "era of peace" in the world."We want him (Obama) to change the policies of President (George W.) Bush. He could end the years-long war by withdrawing U.S. and allied troops from Afghanistan, " Qari Mohammad Yusuf Ahmadi, spokesman for the Taliban, told the Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic press....
"Even if a soldier is tied to every stone in Afghanistan, the West would not be able to (bring into ) being a government of its choice in Afghanistan," an earlier report by the Taliban spokesman as U.S. election results were still coming in said....
That seems to be a generally accurate statement.
Given the story which JW also posted, that Afghan officials supported attacking US troops, our withdrawal would seem appropriate. We're not going to get bin Laden. Why are we wasting valuable resources and the lives of our young men and women fighting for people who will stab us in the back the first chance they get?
Maybe some government officials are under arrest but are we to believe that those who are ostensibly against this jihad won't also turn on America when the time is right?
..."stoning for adulterers..."
Only the women. For the men, this is a sport.
There's nothing quite like finding an impending Obama presidency to ruin your day.
Let's hope Obama can empathize with women and girls living under Taliban rule and is willing to fight for them.
Sadly, I think many more innocent people will meet a horrible fate because Obama will not be a strong defender of freedom.
On the upside, it's going to be fun to watch as Obama supporters get what they asked for, for the next four years. Or not. That's a win/win in entertainment value.

I found it last night when he won PA. I had a glass of wine and watched a show about icebreakers on the History Channel.
Anything to get my mind off what the next four years would be like.
The stories yesterday about what happened at polling places were bad enough - thugs threatening voters and throwing poll watchers out, all in the name of Obama.
Is this God's plan?
Hop to it Hussein. You've got your marching orders.
PMK- I love that episode about icebreakers! Fascinating, eh? I wished I served on one.
On Afghan - Obama needs to evacuate the troops and just employ tac nukes in the area of operations, where necessary (Taliban areas).
War is deceit.
So are elections, apparently.
PMK
Yeah... I work nights, so I didn't even want to know, before going to bed, whether to groan in dismay over a McCain victory, or to howl in anguish over an Obama victory.
I voted for a third-party candidate, Chuck Baldwin, and I was surprised how many of the people I work with intended to vote for him, too. No wanted to hold their nose and vote for McCain, nor for Obama.
It's all over now, but the praying. I'll be praying we're not about to see the complete collapse of America, in our lifetime.
War is deceit.
So are elections, apparently.
tanstaafl,
You've done the impossible. You made me laugh, this morning!

Thanks for making that distinction.
Honor-Killing and FGM are "Females only," too. Aren't they lucky to be born into Islam?
I'm feeling esp. sarcastic this morning due to recent events.
Withdraw troops, and leave the field clear for us. The people have experienced our rule once and will welcome our rule again with open arms. Truely era of Peace will dawn on Afganistan. We will follow stricter Sharia stoning for adultry with very small stones so it doesnt hurt, amputation for thieves after administering anesthesia, painless execution of homosexuals and apostates with more humane methods. Oh girls need not study as they are perpetual womb bombs so why waste time. What a peaceful plea president Obama.
"We want him (Obama) to change the policies of President (George W.) Bush.
Many people do, but will he? How many of Bush policies will he change? And how soon?
I doubt President Obama will make any strong moves unless Bill Ayers OK's them.
Who's really in charge of America now?
I talk to a lot of Afghans and here's what they tell me.
In 2001, the US defeated the Taliban in less than three days, why cant they do the same thing again?
Whatever is insinuated on some sites, Afghans have no love for the Taliban.
I wonder how long it will be before the jihadis begin calling for President-Elect Obama's head! He is leader of the Great Satan now and the muslims will not be happy unless he converts to Islam and implements sharia.
An Obama administation supporting a timetable in Iraq for the withrdrawal of troops will leave the weak Iraqi government extremely vulnerable. I bet the Taliban will start moving/operating into Iraq as well as the shiite militias funded by Iran get a lot stronger. As these groups grow stronger the government of Iraq will only grow weaker thus increasing terrorist operations.
I forget the person who said this, but they are right in saying Iraq will become a "terrorist playground".
Playing with Islam is the fire that will get Obama burned.
How long before one of the stalwart Taliban leaders invites Obama's ten year old to bed?
PMK
One question - If not there, then where? I agree that we are the enemy per the "spiritual" leaders, but just as the stealth jihadists, and those not so stealth, nowhere better that in the heart of the dragon. We just need to adjust the thinking on the battlefield, taking into account that very few of them, if any, are on our side, and take that into account in operations.
I saw this and I thought oh my God.
America what have you done?
The taliban the ones who started this damn
war are now DEMANDING obama
Surrender to the islamic terrorists
to prove he wants peace?
YOu mean so the taliban can again swarm over the country side like cockroaches killing
all in their path.
I feel so damn sorry and to the
people of afghanistan i say this..
America didnt abandon you
the Dems and liberals did.
I am sorry run as fast as you can run to
another country..
I am sorry i voted for mccain..
but it wasnt enough
TRSTHNTR,
Why anywhere? That is a Muslim country. If Afghans don't like the Taliban let them deal with it. If they refuse to deal with it then let them live with it. It is not up to us to fight their battles for them.
Sovereignty cuts two ways. We're hated for fighting on foreign soil and we're hated for leaving them to their own devices. It's a tired saying but it's still true: they can't have it both ways.
Leave them to their own devices, so long as they are willing to accept OUR sovereignty over OUR land. If they attack the US, it's curtains. Otherwise, let them rot.
Whatever is insinuated on some sites, Afghans have no love for the Taliban.

Seeing is believing. The US defeated the Taliban in three days but what have Afghans done in the last six years? Why SHOULD we have to do it again? They got their chance. They showed us they don't really care. Afghans may have no love for the Taliban but they care for us even less. If they don't, they sure have a funny way of showing it.
We just need to adjust the thinking on the battlefield, taking into account that very few of them, if any, are on our side, and take that into account in operations.
TRSTHNTR,
If very few are on our side then why are we there at all? What are we accomplishing?
The justification for past such excursions was that the people were on our side and were being held down by a tyrannical government. Here, people may oppose their government but they also oppose us. So why waste our time and resources on them? It's a pointless exercise.
If our aim is to find bin Laden then we should be busting down every door at gunpoint until we find him or until someone points us to him. Otherwise, what are we doing there? And where do we go from there? Liberation is not what they seek. If they want freedom, they are going to have to fight for it all by themselves. They are going to have to show us that they are engaging in the fight and that they are willing to risk their own sons and daughters in the fight and that both of us have the same goal. Otherwise, why should WE send OUR sons and daughters over there?
We need to make up our minds:
Kabul or K Street. Mosul or Milwaukee. We ALL know that "O" will NOT shore up our borders (neither did "B"), in fact it will get much, much worse, only now they will have almost free reign within the halls of the capitol and the white house. Take them out where they gather, or bury our loved ones on our own streets. I'm afraid that we are in for rough times indeed, both socially and in the fight against these inhuman monsters. Either way our societies decide to go, I only pray that we don't do it half way, or even three quarters, the way we have been doing it. Please remember that we all have the same goal, and only differ on the ways to go about it.
God help us all.
My suggestion for Mr Obama's "new" policies in Afghanistan:
The US will withdraw all military forces when the Taliban:
Grants and secures full rights to all women
Grants and secures full rights to all Kufar
Surrenders Osama bin Ladin to US Justice
The last one is simple, there's even a reward. The first two are simply impossible under Islamic doctrine.
So Mr Obama will probably decide on "peace" and accede to all the Taliban's demands.
So what else is new?
Jockaira,
Why not withdraw all financial and military support until those conditions are met?
Stop all aid programs. Pull our soldiers out.
Given that none of your conditions, even the third, will ever be met, all we would be saying is we will keep our soldiers there for eternity. We'll be providing numerous targets for jihad and throwing lots of money down a huge rat hole. To what end?
"Seeing is believing. The US defeated the Taliban in three days but what have Afghans done in the last six years? Why SHOULD we have to do it again? They got their chance. Dear PMK,
They are fighting the taliban every day. Do a research on the number of ANA (Afghan National Army) and ABP (Afghan Border Police) deaths. They are fighting the taliban every day even though they're underarmed and undertrained.
The Afghans dont like their government and that is a fact but this fight can definitely be won and the Afghans are willing. The West has to show its willing as well in my opinion.
The West has to show its willing as well in my opinion.
My dear Mpayne1,
HOW? WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?
It's been almost seven years already!
We are still there. We are still fighting!
NOW what do you want? When is enough enough?
If Afghans truly fought the Tabiban they would never have been allowed to regain any semblance of power after the US invasion. But they did.
Bin Laden never would have escaped at Tora Bora if Afghans were fighting the Taliban.
That means that AFGHANS are supporting them. There are people in Afghanistan that are SUPPORTING the Taliban. Unless their fellow Afghans are willing to wipe them out then what can the West do?
It's like Vietnam. There were people in the south who believed in democracy and who fiercely opposed Communism. In the end there weren't enough of them to get past the overwhelming majority who either supported the Communists or who just didn't care one way or the other.
Who in Afghanistan will support the West?
We are infidels!
And don't say Karzai.
'...thereby ushering in a new "era of peace"'
From the headline.
A bunker buster would bring about a better, and more permanent, "era of peace."
