US airstrike deep inside Pakistan kills six jihadists

Just as Pakistani officials meet with NATO brass to "discuss" these strikes within Pakistan. Friend and Ally Hanging By a Thread Update: "Suspected U.S. Airstrike Kills 6 Fighters in Pakistan," by Candace Rondeaux for the Washington Post, November 20:

KABUL, Nov. 19 -- A suspected U.S. airstrike deep inside Pakistani territory Wednesday killed six insurgent fighters and wounded several others, according to a Pakistani security official.

The airstrike in the district of Bannu in the North-West Frontier Province appears to be the first such attack outside Pakistan's tribal areas. It came as the country's top military officer met with NATO officials in Brussels to discuss the cross-border missile strikes, which have been increasingly frequent in recent months and which the United States considers necessary for combating al-Qaeda and the Taliban. The attacks have stoked tensions in Pakistan and drawn public rebukes from the government.

An unmanned U.S. Predator aircraft fired at least two missiles early Wednesday at a house near North Waziristan, one of seven semiautonomous tribal territories that line Pakistan's border with Afghanistan. A Pakistani security official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak publicly said the six who were killed were thought to be foreigners suspected of links to al-Qaeda.

Details about those killed could not be confirmed. A Pakistani military spokesman declined to comment. The United States generally does not acknowledge such attacks and has not issued any public comments on the use of Predator airstrikes on Pakistani soil....

Pakistan:

You Know Those Predator Strikes we Hate so Much? Give ‘em to us and We’ll use ‘em on you…..

President Zardari expressed his disapproval of US drone attacks on Pakistani areas along the Afghan border and urged Washington to instead provide the Predator technology to Pakistan to enhance its ability to fight terrorism.

Rather than using Predator to fire missiles against Pakistani territory, why not give Pakistan its own Predators? “Give them to us… we are your allies,” he said.

He said such unilateral strikes harmed efforts to win hearts and minds of the people. The US should equip Pakistan with advanced weapons to help its forces fight terrorists more effectively.

If the Pakistani security/government officials even suspected that Al-Qaedas foreign fighters were there, why didn't they take them out?....Oh Wait a minute...

"Osama Bin Laden is not in Pakistan! If he was, we would find him and arrest him! Therefore, he is not in Pakistan" - Pakistani General.

Yes, the next Caliph is too busy running away from the Predators to notice what country he is in.

As to the Pakistani Army getting their own Predators - maybe when the sun starts rising from a muddy pond.

We all know that Jihad far transcends Al Qaeda, but let's also acknowledge that Al Qaeda is the military spear-head of Jihad in these times (late 20th/early 21st centuries).

These incessant attacks on Al Qaeda's leadership in Pakistan most certainly are seriously degrading the organization. Let's keep up the pressure.

The way to win a war is to discourage the enemy by killing them, at least a lot of them.

Worked in Iraq (1,500 jihadis per month killed or captured during 1.5 years).

But a bullet is more cost effective.

How can he say that when the military has refused to go into the tribal areas? So does that mean the tribal areas are not Pakistan? The Pakistani military won't go in and they scream bloody murder if the US does.

UAV's rock!

AGM-114 Hellfire missiles rock!

Rock On.

I am truly amazed that we actually killed terrorists and not farmers and children at a birthday party!!! And that the press actually reported that we killed terrorists and surrounding villagers didn't lead the press to recently dug graves of women and children. Wow!!

Rather than using Predator to fire missiles against Pakistani territory, why not give Pakistan its own Predators? “Give them to us… we are your allies,” he said.

That's a good idea EXCEPT we don't consider the Indian military as terrorists. And we know you would use them in Kasmir, if not against our troops in Afghanistan.

Idiot.
