They killed seventeen people, hoping to sabotage the Olympics. Feel the love! "China hands death penalty to 2 'bent on jihad,'" from MSNBC, December 17 (thanks to James):
BEIJING - A Chinese court sentenced two people to death Wednesday for what it said was attempt to sabotage the Beijing Olympics with an attack in the far-west region of Xinjiang that killed 17 police days before the games. The Xinhua News Agency said the sentences were handed down by the Kashgar Intermediate People's Court. It did not give any other details. Calls to the court rang unanswered Wednesday.
The Aug. 4 attack, four days before the start of the Olympics, took place in the ancient Silk Road city of Kashgar near the border with Afghanistan and Pakistan. Two men stole a truck and rammed it into a group of police on their morning jog. The men continued attacking with homemade bombs and knives, killing the officers and wounding 15 others.
"The Kashgar court said the two conducted the terrorist attack to sabotage the Beijing Olympic Games that began Aug. 8," Xinhua reported. It identified the two as Kashgar natives, Abdurahman Azat, 33, and Kurbanjan Hemit, 28.
The two are a taxi driver and vegetable seller who were "bent on jihad", the city's Communist Party secretary said in August. One of the men lost his arm when he set off an explosive device during the attack....
If they're watching these developments in China, watch for CAIR and MPAC and the OIC to protest this use of the term "jihad" by the ChiComs. Will they protest the use of the term by the jihadists themselves? What do you think?
Bravo China
and let us take our electric chairs out of the closet and use our left over of energy to clean the country of the Jihadist and company.
Kudos to Kashgar Court. If I had my way we would do the same at Gitmo. Have the scum count off in threes and shoot the odd numbers. Do this every Friday and the rest will get the message.
Good on China.
Ah, dear old brutal merciless totalitarian China.
Well, even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
In other words, right move, wrong reason.
Hats off to the Chinese! At least they have some balls and are not afflicted with the disease called political correctness or dhimmitude. The jihadists need to be humiliated in death too, by cremating them (not burying them) in pig skin. Once the word gets out, it will cure others of lust for 72 virgins in Islamic heaven.
The AFP version of this story that found its way to Australian national news, is worth reading and comparing with the above MSNBC version.

'Terrorists' get death sentence over China attacks: media
Posted 8 hours 29 minutes ago
Two "terrorists" have been sentenced to death for a deadly attack on police in a heavily Muslim Chinese city ahead of the Beijing Olympics, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
The men were convicted of murder following the August 4 attack in China's north-west Xinjiang region that left 17 people dead and another 15 injured, according to a dispatch from Xinhua, which cited the Supreme Court.
Xinhua described the two men, Abdurahman Azat, 33, and Kurbanjan Hemit, 28, as "terrorists" and said they had also been found guilty of illegally making guns, ammunition and explosives.
"The two conducted the terrorist attack to sabotage the Beijing Olympic Games," Xinhua reported, citing a Supreme Court statement.
No other details were given, officials at the Supreme Court were not immediately available to comment and a spokeswoman for the city of Kashgar where the attack took place said she was not aware of the sentencing.
According to previous official Chinese accounts, two Islamic separatists drove a truck at a group of police officers, then assaulted them with explosives and knives in downtown Kashgar.
China had previously said the attack was part of a wave of deadly unrest by Islamic militants in Xinjiang aimed at disrupting the nation in the lead-up to the Beijing Olympics, which took place from August 8 to 24.
Xinhua had previously reported the two were from Xinjiang's ethnic Uighur group, a Turkic-speaking people who have long chafed at Chinese rule.
Xinjiang, a vast area that borders Central Asia, has about 8.3 million Uighurs, and many are unhappy with what they say has been decades of repressive communist Chinese rule.
Two short-lived East Turkestan republics emerged in Xinjiang in the 1930s and 1940s, at a time when central government control in China was weakened by civil war and Japanese invasion.
- AFP END STORY
Note well the final paragraph - "emerged in Xinjiang in the 1930s and 1940s, at a time when central government control in China was weakened by civil war and Japanese invasion".
In other words: the Muslims in that region started up a Jihad the minute they saw an opportunity (just like the Muslim Malay sultanate to the south of Thailand launched jihad against Thailand, way back when, the moment it saw Thailand in a fight with Burma and therefore reasoned that Thailand would be preoccupied and weakened and an easy target for ambush).
In both cases the Muslims overestimated their strength and underestimated the perceived weakness of their target...the Chinese smashed the jihad of the 1930s and 1940s, while the Thais turned round, flattened the sultanate in an entirely justifiable act of self-defence, and added the sultanate's territory to their own.
AFP now, of course, at the end of every report about jihad in southern Thailand, slyly refers to Thailand's 'annexing' the sultanate and occupying it...without ever going into the fact that the original annexation took place in the context of a war of self-defence against Jihad.
I suspect that the historic background allusion at the end of the AFP report on Muslim jihad in western China is supposed to have a similar 'sting in the tail' effect, framing the Muslims as helpless innocent victims.
China's actions in Tibet are abominable.
China's actions toward its Muslim infested regions, less so...the problem of jihad-minded Uighurs (and others) long predates the communist regime, Islam has been attacking China ever since Central Asia was islamised by Jihad and that Jihad then began pressing up against China's western borderlands.
If I were a Chinese government person I would be less worried about the jihad among Uighur Muslims - who mostly inhabit a distinct region and can therefore be contained - than about the possibility of a jihadi mindset developing among the Hui Muslims, who live all over China.
The Chinese generally harvest the organs of the executed for the benefit of state officials and their families.
I wonder if the jihadists will contemplate that as they await their fate.
5 months for a verdict.
In PC correct western countries this would take five to ten years!
Not that i am a fan of China , but maybe swift justice may be the route to take.

where is the outcry from china's muslim friends in the UN??? muslims get the message, dont mess with the chicoms.
China has always dealt with Muslims and Islam appropriately. Notice that they don't do this to other faiths, but they do to dissident political ideologies. They have accurately identified Islam for what it is. Tibet's kind of a different situation and I'm not excusing it, but it's no different from Taiwan, which is not an ideological thing either, just a land thing. They just recognize Islam for what it is and treat it properly. We could learn a thing or two from China on this matter.
jdamn:
From the outside it looks like you may be right. But I'd be eager to see some evidence that the Chinese have identified mohammedanism as a political doctrine.
Have you seen any? Or are you making an inference from their actions.
Remember, the Chinese are pretty rough on Christians too, and I wouldn't call Christianity a political doctrine.
China places all kinds of limits on Islam, which is easy to do, since there's always more Sharia to curb. As far as their treatment of Christians the only limitations they place on them of which I'm aware are not allowing them to proselytize (which is annoying and should be curbed in any society when people do it in person), not allowing too many churches to be built in urban areas where space is scarce (which we do too through zoning and tax laws), and the limitation of the number of clergy, but that's because they're a "worker's society" and clergy don't feed the bottom line. As far as curbing Islam as a political doctrine, they restrict the imposition of Arabness, of one, by not allowing stuff to be written in Arabic. They restrict the verses in the Koran, I assume the political ones, but do not censor the Bible. They restrict the hajj. They even disallow fasting for university students. They do not allow pubic prayer, and they keep a tight grip on the mosques. Building mosques is limited everywhere. Separatism is disallowed, and they of course control what's in textbooks.
