It was a "Muslim-American," Louay Kezy. What's with the hyphenated designation "Muslim-American"? Is AP now daring to imply that there is something about being a Muslim that makes one a different kind of American from all the other Americans?
As far as the suit itself goes, I have no way of knowing what really went on inside this Wal-Mart, but twelve million dollars? Because of a few jokes? Because of being moved between departments in a way he didn't like? Mr. Kezy is either extraordinarily thin-skinned or is being used by others to push the proposition that employers must treat Muslim employees with kid gloves, essentially allowing them to do as they please -- once again, like so many stealth jihad initiatives, establishing Muslims as a privileged class with rights beyond those of non-Muslims. CAIR's involvement makes the latter option seem more likely.

Kezy, who worked at the store from March to August, said he was the only Arab or Muslim to work in the stock room, where he said he endured jokes about terrorists and was threatened by another employee. The lawsuit says his hours were reduced, he was denied mandated break time and was "arbitrarily shuffled" between departments after complaining to managers.
"They start telling me stuff - `We don't like you. We hate you all,'" said Kezy, who remains unemployed. "They want to beat me up. (One said), `I want to punch you in the face.'"...
Dawud Walid, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations' Michigan chapter, said a representative of his organization was among those that met with Wal-Mart officials before the store opened.
Walid said the store has done a great deal of marketing and public relations, but added "there's a difference between seeking to profit from the community" and having a "true appreciation for diversity as well as workers' rights."

You know - I wouldn't mind betting that he's lying through his teeth. Think of those myriads of unfounded rumours and blatantly false accusations of blasphemy, etc., that are routinely used to whip up insta-mobs against dhimmi individuals or groups in Muslim-dominated countries.
He'll say whatever he thinks will work, to blacken his co-workers and the store. He's assuming that - as in Muslim lands - that in court a Muslim's word will ALWAYS, always, always trump the word of a non-Muslim.
It will be interesting to find out what his non-Muslim co-workers and superiors say about what happened, what was done or said, if anything.
Because my own working assumption is that every word he's saying - every accusation he's bringing - is a lie, or at best, a gross distortion.
Memo to employers and co-workers with cranky, insolent Muslim co-workers or employees: if they're starting to give you trouble, keep a record of every exchange. Preferably, audio record it.
Because if it comes down to your word against theirs, they will lie, lie, lie with a straight face, absolute conviction, tears running down their cheeks. And they just might convince a judge, or a jury, unless you can slam them with facts that contradict their taradiddles.

There are so many cameras in Wal-Mart, even in the back. There's no way he's going to win this. Wal-Mart is going to say they were doing him a favor by hiring him at all, and that he was kept in the back of the house because he doesn't speak English and is bad with people. No jury would contest that. Arbitrarily shuffling people is what stores do when they first open and have all-new staff. They want people to find their respective niche, and his obviously was in the back.
Wal-Mart does "truly appreciate diversity." They hire everyone, including the mentally handicapped and people so old you're afraid of catching death when they greet you. This dude is a loon.

Walmart must get all the public support possible.

I agree, Tartine, with reservations. I disagree with Jabba that he did this in cahoots with lefties, at least initially. Wal-Mart was simply the only place that would hire him. I resent Wal-Mart's dhimmitude in agreeing to hire anyone who refused to handle pork products or alchohol. I'm a vegetarian (17 years running) who worked as a server for years. It would have never occurred to demand that an employer hire me but not expect me to serve dead, cut-up animals, let alone to sue for discrimination if they refused to hire me. Wal-Mart was idiotic to hire anyone who refused to work with pork of alchohol. That is not "reasonable accomodation." That is whoring away my country to evil.
On the other hand, Wal-Mart's offering $4 prescriptions is the single greatest thing anyone has done for our healthcare system in my lifetime. It made medicine affordable to a lot of people and I applaud them for that.
Hopefully they will learn their lesson. There is always a way to get around hiring Muslims, be it:
-lack of references,
-shady background,
-ineptitude,
-laziness,
-lack of legitimate education (that's everyone -from any Sharia state),
-bad attitude,
-lying on the application,
-better competition,
-poor language skills,
-slovenly appearance,
-inflexibility with regard to hours,
refusal to shake hands with the obviously Jewish and female interviewer, or
-refusal to do certain aspects of the job (like handling pork and alchohol).
The sooner companies learn this, the better.

Welcome to America! This is not a land for the faint of heart. I'm willng to bet that you have done more than say "I want" to beat someone up, especially if that person was not Muslim. If you can't stand the heat then go home. If you can't go home because you "fear persecution" or some such nonsense, then there are fifty-six other Muslim nations for you to choose from.

There is a generic, totally informative quote from some Wal-Mart higher up, but the article does NOTHING beyond give a sound-board to this man and the groups backing him.
I teach English composition, and I've worked on school newspapers, and if I were an editor, I'd have handed this article back to the reporter and told him/her to --- stop being so lazy - and so one-sided.
It would seem like journalism 101 to --- dig into what the other Muslim workers at the store have to say about their experience.
Wouldn't at least another anonymous Muslim worker quote saying the place is intolerable give some quality journalistic verification?
You know, verification.....Like verification in your article's decision to make the man's claims center-place and dominant in the piece?
And if you couldn't find such corroboration among current and former Muslim employees, or heaven forbid!! you found ones that said the guy was a first-class asshole or just looking for trouble to complain about --- might that not have led a real journalist (and media org) to ---- wouldn't that temper the claims by this one individual and the groups supporting him?
The fact that Wal-Mart went all out to make sure to hire Arab and Muslim employees, did everything it could in this store to accommodate Muslim demands and Muslim sensibilities, will in court be presented, as it should be, as powerful evidence that Mr. Kezy is simply lying, and attempting to blackmail a deep-pocketed corporation into shelling out money for him. The case should be fought tooth and nail. And employers --- whether meat-packing plants in Iowa, or Wal-Marts in Minneapolis, or law firms foolishly deciding to hire Muslims (who are flocking so determinedly to law schools in order to exploit "the system" -- that is, our system of individual rights -- in order to further the intimidate Infidels, and to further the interests of Islam), are merely looking for trouble. And trouble is what Muslim employees, egged on by CAIR's transparent barratry, are sure to give them.

Funny, I was over there at the Dearborn Wal-Mart last Thursday night, with my little girl. We first visited the Borders Books & Music nearby. Usually, we visit those same chain stores up Ford Road, in Canton Twp. I didn't notice any remarkable number of identifiably Muslim shoppers--did notice a number of native Black shoppers; I'm a JihadWatcher, after all. Assuming that means I must be some kind of excrable Islamophobe, I only recall one singular hijabbed mother at Borders'.
The next time I'm looking for ground pork, I think I'll check out the Dearborn Wal-Mart!

Why do staff need sensitivity training to SELL things? I am baffled. Shops are about goods and the money needed to buy them, are they not? Wellington: It has been disturbingly evident for some years how popular law school is with Muslims here (Australia). "Why law?" I used to wonder, yet I already knew the answer.
The minute we opened our doors to them they were onto everything they could, in a flash, and law was a priority.
