FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- A federal jury on Thursday convicted an Iranian woman of attempting to obtain thousands of pairs sophisticated U.S.-made night-vision goggles for Iran's military and police.Jurors found Shahrazad Mir Gholikhan, 31, guilty of trying to illegally broker the deal to export the goggles, which are subject to strict controls, and of seeking to violate the U.S. embargo against Iran. But the jury acquitted her of three conspiracy counts.
Gholikhan, who acted as her own attorney during the trial, said she would appeal and insisted the she is innocent.
"I won't give up. It's OK. God is here," Gholikhan said in a brief courtroom interview. She appeared relieved that the trial was over....
The case involved the attempted purchase of 3,500 Generation III night-vision goggles for Iran. The goggles are made mainly for U.S. special forces and the Israeli military and cannot be legally exported without a special State Department license.
Gholikhan and her husband, Mahmoud Seif, were arrested 2004 in Vienna, Austria, in 2004 after a hotel meeting with undercover U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents posing as brokers for the goggles. Gholikhan spent a month in an Austrian jail and was released. Seif was also detained but eventually returned to Iran, where he remains....
One wonders who was behind Gholikhan and Seif. Surely they didn't mastermind this on their own. Let's hope other inquiring minds are on the case.

I would often wonder at this statement, not having experience with worldly standards of hatred, I mean if someone who did not like you was given food or water in their need by you, why would that be like heaping burning coals on their head?
But for some reason it does tend to cause the followers of hatred and death some pain to be the recipients of charity from those that they disdain.
I am not sure if the same thing could be said of state welfare, since that is more often percieved as a right of residence than a form of altruistic charity.

This is damn serious these goggles would not stay in Iran. The one advantage the Allied forces forces have in Afghanistan and Iraq is night vision aids.
Remember the Austrian sniper rifles sold to Iran and now being used in to kill our people in Iraq!

In the light of Iran's failure to even be able to get hold of those goggles, I wouldn't be surprising if, in their quest for a nuclear weapon, they ended up being victims of their own incompetence by an event similar to one of those accidental early detonations of suicide-bomber belts (but which would cause a hell of a lot more harm to those working on it, and a lot more damage to the area around the site of the "accident.")

As a Christian, I would say that this statement has a context that is not easy to grasp. Perhaps under strict Roman control at the time, it would have been useless to do anything else. Possibly the Romans killed all the bullies themselves. If this treatment is applied to bullies today, it may hurt the feelings of the bully but it will definitely not deter them. In fact, through the centuries, there has been no significant conversions of Islamics to Christianity, no matter how hard Christians may try.
When I was 8 years old, I learned (on my own) how to handle a bully and have since found that there is still only one way. Kick the ever loving s--- out of them. All Islamics are taught to be bullies and they need to be handled in just that way.
Quite a slew of convictions today.

Why did Immigration let them in? I thought Iran was America's enemy since they threw out the Shaw and took your embassy workers hostage. These people should have been denied visas and entry.
