If they do this, they will thereby ensure that the bloodthirsty Hamas jihadists will survive to kill again. Is #8, here, just around the corner?
"Barak asks gov't to OK more reservists," from the Jerusalem Post, December 30 (thanks to Dan):
[...] Earlier, officials in the defense establishment have recommended to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to suspend military operations against Hamas in Gaza for 48 hours and during that time to review a number of possible ceasefire solutions for Operation Cast Lead.Senior Israeli ministers were reportedly set to discuss the proposal Tuesday night. According to reports, if the unilateral ceasefire were to fail, Israel would launch a ground offensive.
Olmert reportedly opposed suspending the operation while Defense Minister Ehud Barak was weighing the idea.
The recommendation, disclosed by defense sources on Tuesday evening, came after Barak spoke with French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner earlier in the day.
The IDF issued a statement that it was not recommending a ceasefire.
The defense establishment is suggesting that Israel use the suspension of operations to carefully study Hamas's intentions; whether the group was planning to escalate the violence by renewing attacks inside the country or whether it would opt to stop its rocket attacks against the South altogether....
Beware the disinformation campaign.
The Israeli defense establishment has adamantly denied those news.
Olmert has declared that it will go on according to plan.
Israpundit hacked?
I hope it's not true. We give up too much. The world drama's doesn't count. More people died in Darfur yet is anyone protesting like they did now?
A fatality in Ashdod, 23 miles from HAMAStan; a rocket hits Beersheba, 28 miles distant; time to CRUSH HAMAS NOW.

Please, Israel: just keep going. Hammer Hamas into the ground.
If there are any decent people left in Gaza, they will not complain (the remnant Christians certainly shouldn't, given that Hamas was planning to impose upon them the full rigour of sharia, complete with punishments for drinking wine or selling it).
Over at sheikyermami's website there is a translation of a newspaper report from the Netherlands, describing Geert Wilders' advice for Israel. I think he has it to rights.
Here's the link to the original Dutch newspaper article:
http://www.telegraaf.nl/binnenland/2878429/__Wilders_achter_Israel__.html?p=7,1
Even in Dutch, the sense of the final sentence comes across - just read it aloud.
'Israël heeft Wilders betreft groot gelijk: “Knikker de hele bende maar de Sinaï in”.' {i.e 'kick the whole lot into the Sinai'}.
A translation is available at Gates of Vienna, and reproduced by 'sheik', so I will put it here:
"Wilders stands behind Israel
"The Hague — PVV leader Geert Wilders stands behind Israel in the conflict in the Middle East.
' “Violence against terror is rarely disproportionate”, he responded Sunday concerning the Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip.
“If we [in The Netherlands] had to deal with terrorists just across the border in Belgium or Germany, who were launching missiles at Maastricht or Breda, and broke a truce,”
Wilders — if he were Minister of Defense — would have done exactly the same as Israel is doing now.
'Wilders points out that the Palestinians have chosen Hamas themselves in elections.
'He believes that Israel has the all the right in the world to defend itself.
“The cause is blind hatred. There is unfortunately no dialogue against that. If your people and country are threatened existentially and fired upon by terrorists, you shoot back.”
'According to Wilders, Israel is quite right:
“Just kick the whole lot into the Sinai.” END ARTICLE.
Please, O Knesset and IDF - listen to your good Dutch friend, as once the nascent Haganah listened to, and learned from, one Orde Wingate.
I do not think that Wingate, were he here today, would have counselled much 'restraint' toward the murderous jihadist thugs and warlords who run Gaza.
There should be no ceasefire. All a ceasefire does is ensure that we will be here again. It is Groundhog Day revisited - or another repeat of Back to the Future, with the Israeli citizens back in the bomb shelters. This time Israel must finish the job and not stop one minute short. The stakes could hardly be higher. Once the boot is on the neck, it should stay firmly planted there. My advice to the Israelis is to ignore the Western media, because Israeli lives are more important than hoping for the good headline that will never come.
I hope Israel is not losing its bottle. Any reversal will only embolden Hezbollah as well as Hamas. This threat must be dealt with fully.
What do you expect from the likes of olmert. this is a ploy for next election to show Iraelis at how tough they can be. Bibi needs to remind Olmert he screwed up last time, do not repeat again!
If all they do is throw rocks at the hornets nest with no intention of ever detroying the hornets nest then don't complain when the kids get stung.
Hamas has talked too big to back down now. Israel may just take some time to update the target list. let Hamas do some regrouping. Bigger targets.
Something must have been learned from all those Rat behavior studies over the years.
Here, for the benefit of new visitors, especially Israeli Jews but also Jews of the diaspora at this time, and all friends of Israel, are two pieces of historic wisdom that have frequently been posted at this site, but are most apposite as of today, the final day of 2008.
One comes from China, at a time when the Muslims in western and southwestern China had arisen in Jihad.
One comes from the young Winston Churchill, from 'The River Wars' (1899), his account of the British Empire vs. the Mahdi and his jihadists (a war that was 'caused', in part, by the British attempts to suppress the Arab Muslim SLAVE TRADE in the Sudan; the Muslims were highly indignant that their long-hallowed sharia-sanctified right to murder, rape or castrate and enslave black Africans was being challenged, so they arose in Jihad).
Both pieces of wisdom ought to be translated into Hebrew and French and Russian ASAP and encouraged to go viral on the Israeli and Jewish blogosphere.
From a nameless journalist or editor in the English-language North China Herald:
“If politeness and ceremony be observed toward Mohammedans, they imagine they are feared and become arrogant;
"but in showing severity and rudeness, they are impressed with fear and respect, and they are supple and manageable.”
--North China Herald,1867
(this was unearthed, an anonymous gem of Oriental wisdom, and shared here at jihadwatch, by a poster called unicorns62000 at January 16, 2005 4:30 AM).
Now for Winston S Churchill:
"No terms but fight or death were offered. No reparation or apology could be made. . .
"The red light of retribution played on the bayonets and the lances, and civilization—
"elsewhere sympathetic, merciful, tolerant, ready to discuss or to argue, eager to avoid violence, to submit to law, to effect a compromise—
"here advanced with an expression of inexorable sternness, and rejecting all other courses,
"offered only the arbitration of the sword."
- From The River Wars (1899 edition).
