Which is not surprising since four years ago Bangladesh was deemed "the next favoured destination of the Al Qaeda." "Bangladesh Islamist party pledges military training in seminaries," from New Kerala, December 12:
Dhaka, Dec 12 : Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, the country's largest Islamist party, has pledged the enactment of a blasphemy law and military training for students of Islamic seminaries (madrassas) in its manifesto for the Dec 29 general election, media reports said Friday. So long as they live as humble, second-class dhimmis, in accordance to Koran 9:29, that is.The blasphemy law is meant to prevent the criticism of religion in books, newspapers or electronic media and punishment for those responsible.
"All will enjoy religious rights, but criticism or making bad remarks about others' religions is not acceptable. There is blasphemy law in the United Kingdom and nothing is wrong about it," Jamaat chief Motiur Rahman Nizami said Thursday as he announced the party's manifesto.
Blasphemy law exists in Pakistan where non-Muslims are brought before law, and there is no bail. The cases generally lead to conviction. Some judges who acquitted the accused were later killed.
"Madrassas and mosque-based mass education will be given priority. Mass education will also be introduced in all religious institutions," the Jamaat manifesto reads.
Along with students at madrassas, arrangements will be made to give military training to citizens aged between 20 and 30 gradually under the supervision of the defence forces, it added.[...]
The Jamaat, which wants to establish a rule in the country based on the ideals of Islam, said it would initiate measures to spread the ideals of Islam through all mediums, including radio, television and newspapers.
Measures will also be taken to ensure that other religious communities can perform their religious activities freely, Nizami said.
The manifesto, however, did not make it clear how the party would tackle religious terrorism"...
"Tackle"? If anything, the measures they seek to introduce will probably only breed more "religious terrorism."
The Taliban model, essentially. Holding out hope for the Muslim world is a sign of insanity at this point.

..........................
That would be Shari'ah. How is it, with this vile system of "law" spreading over huge swaths of the Muslim world, and even making inroads in the Democratic West, that it still isn't recognized and named?
It doesn't seem so long ago, the concert for Bangladesh. Spearheaded by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar for the benefit of the hundreds of thousands of people tortured and killed; the millions of refugees, driven from their homes; the women who were raped, and their subsequent war babies; the sex slaves and orphans; the sheer human tragedy of it all. No matter who's in charge in islamic countries, nothing ever changes. The bloated babies, the flies, the filth.....why is it still our job, our duty to make their lives better, when their own corrupt governments will not help them?
In the face of economic woes in a large part engineered by our enemies, all Western aid to these nations should be withdrawn, gradually if need be, and no new aid extended. Heartless, yes......but consider the alternative.
Bangladesh is undergoing a "Gleichschaltung".
This will only end when islam follows its course and hits rock bottom.
Having drunk the cup of wrath to the full, Islam will end up beaten by the rest of mankind.
Islam sucks.
I blaspheme, therefore I am.
Tucked away in the archives for 2007 I found a reference to a 13th century Jewish writer in Baghdad who essentially exposed the simple fact (observed also, centuries later, by V S Naipaul in 'Among the Believers') that it is in fact impossible for any society to follow sharia to the letter without ruining itself.
Here's the posting that contained this interesting information.
"I guess 1280 ad {AD - dda} is before the founding of the State of Israel and the Cartoons, yes?
"From wiki {NB - I checked - the article has been edited since 2007 so that the most mordant aspects of Ibn Kammuna's critique of sharia no longer appear - dda}
“In 1280 the Jewish philosopher Ibn Kammuna criticized Islam in his book Examination of the Three Faiths.
"Ibn Kammuna wrote that Muslim rulers habitually violate the provisions of the Islamic law (sharia) {hmm - so what's new? - dda} because:
QUOTE
'[i]f the provisions of Islam were acted upon without any alteration, the regime would be upset, and people's blood would be spilled unjustly.
'This is no secret to anyone acquainted with Muslim jurisprudence
'and with the evil and corruption the people sink into.' UNQUOTE
"He reasoned that this incompatibility of sharia with the principles of justice undercuts Muhammad's claims of being a perfect man:
"there is no proof that Muhammad attained perfection and the ability to perfect others as claimed".
"The philosopher thus concluded that people usually convert to Islam from ulterior motives:
QUOTE
'That is why, to this day we never see anyone converting to Islam
unless in terror,
or in quest of power,
or to avoid heavy taxation,
or to escape humiliation,
or if taken prisoner,
or because of infatuation with a Muslim woman, or for some similar reason.
'Nor do we see a respected, wealthy, and pious non-Muslim well versed in both his faith and that of Islam, going over to the Islamic faith without some of the aforementioned or similar motives”. UNQUOTE
"In 1284, the news about Ibn Kammuna's book reached the Muslims of Baghdad.
"The chronicler Fuwati described the events that followed: "The infuriated mob rioted, and massed to attack his house and to kill him." The local emir and the supreme judge arrived at the scene. "The amir stepped out to calm the crowds but these showered abuse upon him and accused him of being on the side of Ibn Kammuna, and of defending him. Then, upon the amir's order, it was heralded in Baghdad that, early the following morning outside the city wall, Ibn Kammuna would be burned." The crowd dispersed, and Ibn Kammuna was smuggled out of Baghdad to his son in Hilla "

Let's hear some of that again. Worth copying, printing, and learning off by heart - the wise words of a 13th century Jewish critic of Islam, on the evil effects of sharia if applied pure and undiluted:
"If the provisions of Islam were acted upon without any alteration,
"the regime would be upset,
"and people's blood would be spilled unjustly.
'This is no secret to anyone acquainted with Muslim jurisprudence
'and with the evil and corruption the people sink into.' "

don't forget to give primary credit to tokyobk' who first unearthed the Ibn Kammuna reference and shared it here, where I found it, thought it interesting, copied it and squirrelled it away.
If you google Ibn Kammuna and 'Examination of the Three Faiths' you find out that there is an English translation by Moshe Perlmann, published in 1971/ 1972, available as a second hand book from Amazon.

Sounds like it might be worth getting hold of.
