Pakistan arrests 20 suspected Mumbai jihadists, but won't hand them over to India

Our Friend and Ally hard at work against jihad terror! "Pakistan Arrests 20 Mumbai Suspects, Won't Extradite to India," from FoxNews, December 9 (thanks to George):

Pakistan will not hand over to India captured terror suspects believed to be responsible for last month's deadly attacks on Mumbai, Pakistan's foreign minister said Tuesday, insisting the nation will try militants under its own laws.

Pakistan intensified its crackdown on the militant group suspected in the Mumbai attacks by arresting 20 more people Tuesday.

A senior Pakistani security official said troops raided at least five more offices of militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba in Pakistan's portion of the disputed region of Kashmir in the past 24 hours.

Security forces were acting on information gleaned from Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, an alleged mastermind of the attacks who was picked up in the same region on Sunday.

"The arrests are being made for our own investigations," said Islamabad's Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told Sky News. "Even if allegations are proved against any suspect, he will not be handed over to India.

"We will proceed against those arrested under Pakistani laws," Qureshi said....

Methinks that this is just a measure to placate Western opinion: a few arrests and a few trials, and after a few years, when the heat is off, an early release. Twenty may be an appropriate number for those involved in the Bombay blasts, but it's a drop in the bucket in relation to the number of Pakistani terrorists. Twenty isn't even the full number of a graduating class of just one of the terror madrassas. If Pakistan were truly serious about dealing with terrorism, it would be arresting more like 2000.

Didn't the Paki military just declare jihadists as patriots?

What laws does Pakistan have against patriotism?

A slap on the wrist at most...India will not be happy...

I agree, ebonystone. However, let's not dismiss the ease at which jihadis escape from jails in Islamic countries.

After, as you say, "the heat is off", the 20 jihadis could turning up missing. "Well," Pakistani prison officials would say, "they were standing over there near a section of the fence which hasn't be repaired in over thirty years. The next time we checked, they were gone."

Of course, the Muslim version of Sargent Schultz would intone: " I know nothing, I know nothing."

The Pakistan goverment cannot afford these 20 to be released to India. The 20 will speak and further 'layout' how the Pakistan goverment and the ISI created, run, fund, and train the organization.

The 20 men will have an 'accident' while Pakistan detention, and Pakistan will apoligize for the 'accident'.

Yes, and when the heat is off, let them go.

"Pakistani laws" is an oxymoron.

On the first point, dead on. Too bad they couldn't be transferred to Gitmo for the "interviews." On the second point, this would be the smart thing to do. Dead men tell no tales. But these guys have a different view of things, so I think ebonystone and dsinc are probably right - when the heat is off they'll be let go.

""The arrests are being made for our own investigations,"

...probably want to find out how one of the Muslims terrorists managed to get captured alive in Mumbai...
