What kind of "terrorists" are trying to do this? Fox doesn't say, but it doesn't mention way down in the article that Al-Qaeda would love to launch a nuclear or biological attack. Did this panel discuss combating within the United States the ideology that fuels the desire to mount this kind of attack, and to imprison and/or deport those who advocate for that ideology? It appears that it didn't. Now, why not?

Terrorists are likely to attack the United States using nuclear or biological weapons before 2013, according to a report released by a bipartisan commission.Vice President-elect Joe Biden was briefed on the panel's study on Tuesday. Among other things, the report suggests that the incoming Obama administration shore up its counterterrorism efforts to fight against germ warfare.
"Our margin of safety is shrinking, not growing," states the report, a copy of which was obtained by FOX News. It is scheduled to be publicly released Wednesday.
The commission is also encouraging the new White House to appoint one official on the National Security Council to exclusively coordinate U.S. intelligence and foreign policy on combatting the spread of nuclear and biological weapons.
The report of the Commission on the Prevention of WMD Proliferation and Terrorism, led by former Sens. Bob Graham of Florida and Jim Talent of Missouri, acknowledges that terrorist groups still lack the needed scientific and technical ability to make weapons out of pathogens or nuclear bombs.
But it warns that gap can be easily overcome, if terrorists find scientists willing to share or sell their know-how.

And when it finally happens, people will gnash their teeth and cry out "why weren't we warned?"..."why do they hate us?"...and of course "NEVER AGAIN!"...

It is to my great consternation that Muslims are even considered for access to Secret Compartmented Information, yet I see more and more employees of questionable backgrounds inside the SCIF at work. Of course I don't know that they are Muslim, but with a good handful of Egyptian, Pakistani, Iranian employees holding clearances I suspect at least some of them are Muslim.
An Egyptian fellow I've known for a few years showed up in the closed area - Real friendly guy, I hope he's Coptic.
A darn cute new hire chick who I assumed was Indian works in the closed area, her last name is Arab sounding and now I fear she's Pakistani. Bummer.
A really sullen guy I've been noticing for a few years now at work named Saeed really surprised me by showing up in a classified area.
I wish the folks that grant clearances in our security community would wise up. Access to classified is not a right, it is not coupled whatsoever to equal employment opportunity. Just surfing the various classified servers that desktop machines have access to, an Islamist or Islamist sympathizer can get lots of info that should not fall into the wrong hands.
We have tons of technology that, while not classified secret, is subject to export compliance and ITAR regulations. Once information has escaped you can't very well recompartmentalize it. We've become so PC that we will glady risk security.

Richard, I know exactly how you feel. I deal with EC and ITAR access issues every day and it makes me crazy that we let potential enemies have such easy to our secrets.

Now why would that be, I wondered as I read that sentence? What would make biologists inclined to become terrorists? I read on, eagerly anticipating the answer. Alas, it was not to be found.

I am pleased that at least someone in the U.S. government is beginning to understand that time is NOT on our side. We need to place them on the defensive, otherwise.....
A large problem is that President-elect Obama will place us on the strategic defensive. This will take the pressure off of our enemies to attack our military in a place of our chosing and allow them to attack us in a place of their choice. Not my idea of a way to fight a war. Leave alone the concept of winning the war.
And if a person within the U.S. goverment cannot fulfill their position, job, or duties you would think they would resign.
Instead, they have a research paper that comes out and they make public, so that later they can cover their butts by saying 'we told you so'.
I am sorry, but 'we told you so' is not the job goverment employees and politicians are in to fulfill.
If they can't prevent the attack and won't step down, they are part of the problem not part of the cure.
Deterrence? I don't hear that word. Why not? Is it simply unthinkable to think of the things that might be hinted at, or might be openly discussed, that would happen if certain other things happened first? Why?
What if any such attack by Muslims were to be followed by rapid deportation of Muslims all over the Western world, because we simply do not have to live in constant fear and there are ways to dry up the swamps in which Muslim terrorists operate? And in any case, those who identify themselves as Muslims are, at the same time, telling us that they do indeed take the Qur'an as the literal word of Allah, and that means that all of the inculcated hatred toward non-Muslims, and deep belief in the doctrine of Jihad, the "struggle" to remove all obstacles to the spread, and then the dominance, of Islam, can fairly be attributed to those who, at this point in the world's history, and living in the West, and with all of the texts easily available to them, and the history of Islamic conquest, and the weekly or monthly or annual Jihad News, nonetheless continue to call themselves Muslims.
Or, it might be that the oilfields of the Gulf will be seized, and the money from the sale of the oil used to pay for all of the destruction and other economic damage such an attack would cause, and to pay the families of the future victims very large (American-jury-size) sums. And that might just wipe the Muslim treasuries, and hence the Money Weapon, right out.
Or, it might be bruited about that if such an attack were ever to occur, every single entry and exit into Mecca would be bombed, and bombed with tactical nuclear weapons, but of the kind that would leave a residue. And since the half-life of Strontium 90 is, I think, 27.7 years, well...

We kept hearing throughout the 1980s that someday terrorists would strike inside the US. They finally did, in 1993, and what did we do? ZIP!
A bio attack - they're too late. Remember the anthrax? It's already been done. Muslims won't gain anything from such an attack. It won't be the first. Our government is likely to blame it on "American terrorists" anyway. Can't risk having Americans riot and kill innocent Muslims.

This may seem overly callous to some, but...
I don't think this issue will ever be resolved until tens, or perhaps hundreds, of millions of human beings have been killed. The only questions to be answered are Who? and Where?..
The answers I prefer are Them and There.
With Armageddon scheduled for 2012, we should have a pretty busy schedule in the years ahead.
If we cannot stop the enemy from acquiring nukes today, then how are we going to stop their use against us when the time is right. Same for the bio agents.
I do not expect anything to stop terrorism in the United States or around the world as long as fear is turned into massive profit.
We can "bailout" mega-corporations like Citicorp -- which also happens to have at least 9% of its holdings owned by Arab-Muslim investors -- with trillions of dollars in Unconstitutional tax money collected from the American People, but we can't build a wall for a mere fraction of this cost to keep the invaders from Mexico out of our Nation.

On topic for 'bio attack':
I'm trying to sell my novel entitled A Plague on Both Houses
The main storyline consists of a 'regular guy' who stumbles onto a multi-city bioterror attack during his cyber battles with jihadis.
My jihadis acquire Yersina Pestis , or weaponized Bubonic Plague, from contacts in the former Soviet Biopreparat and get help moving it to the United States through jihadi brothers operating in Uzbekistan.
It's a novel, of course, but plausible and the idea seems to be au courant once again.
I'm going to keep trying to get the word out and am sending copies and email solicitations to all sorts of people.
