KABUL, Afghanistan - Three insurgents attempted to plant an IED in Deh Rawod district, Oruzgan province, approximately 200 km southwest of Kabul, along a well traveled road when it detonated, killing two of the insurgents.Local villagers reported an explosion to the ANSF, who discovered the dead and wounded.Afghan National Security Forces and Coalition forces provided medical attention and transported the wounded insurgent to a nearby Coalition forces medical facility for treatment, but he subsequently died of his injuries.
No ANSF, Coalition forces or civilian casualties were reported.
"The ANSF showed their compassion and professionalism by providing treatment to a wounded enemy," said Col. Gregory Julian, U.S. Forces Afghanistan spokesman.
Do you think that the ANSF won over any jihadist hearts and minds by doing that? Unfortunately, this is unlikely. The jihadists tend to see compassion only as weakness.
United States Forces Afghanistan's mission, in coordination with NATO's International Security Assistance Force, is to conduct operations to defeat terrorist networks and insurgents by developing effective governance and building the Afghan National Security Force. Effective security throughout the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan facilitates continued regional stability and increases economic development for the people of Afghanistan.
Oh, and Sharia, but who cares when you have "regional stability"?

While we're on the topic of Work Accidents, I must remark that the whole of Jihad Fortress-and-Arms-Dump Gaza, by now, packed full of fuel and HE and ammo, is one enormous Work Accident just waiting to happen.

I don't think you are being cynical, Robert, I think you are being realistic. Our opponents are implacable. The mindset of jihad recognizes only the horrible duality of Islam. If you are a believer, you are a human being. If you are a kuffar, you are just another sacrifice to Allah.
Here is what should have been done, yes treat the wounded jihdist but make sure that he sees you wrapping the dead jihadist in pig skins and stuffing pork products down their throats, and then burying them in unmarked graves. Word will get around specially if this becomes standard practice for any dead jihadist found. the notion that being wrapped in pigskin will prevent them from gaining partadise will bound to discourage jihdist activities.
Don't worry about these three jihadists, they are in Allah's paradise cavorting with virgins.
They qualify for Allah's workman's compensation program for worthy jihadi's.
But they died by accident while in Allah's service and not in an actual battle.
So the question is, are all dead jihadi's equal?
Do some get 2nd or 3rd class accommodations?
Lumpy couch...Sour wine...Older semi used virgins?
While the hero jihadi's get all the goodies?
You would think that might lead to rebellion by those with a lesser compensation plan.
Allah probably prevents this kind of problem

Now, this is pretty ironic that we celebrate their deaths. This is not as most of us are taught to do - but I really have a hard time feeling one iota of sorrow for them. Who knows how many have been saved because they killed themselves!
the difference being in our celebration is that we are really celebrating they only took themselves instead of so many innocents. While in islam they celebrate their murderers with such things as 'wedding parties', getting the whole community together and the families really getting jubilant because their new martyrs will name them as some of the 70 that can go straight to heaven bypassing their predestination rules.

I know the feeling, 2 months ago I attended the funeral of a British soldier shot dead attempting to arrest an Afghan suspect. One of his friends was there less both legs. I got home just in time to hear a guy from The European Commission on Torture on BBC complaining the cells Al queda suspects were being held in in London were "Spartan"

Inshallah fatalism and a religion that inculcates 1. an inability to cooperate with others (indeed, a tendency to sabotage others for fun) 2. laziness 3. total disrespect for facts and 4. a pervasive tendency to boast and to lie in order to cover up one's inadequacies in the area of skills and knowledge, do not produce the kind of behaviour that is needed if one wishes to remain alive for extended periods while handling and/or storing dangerous substances in complicated combinations.
