She was one of eight protesters standing with placards reading "No U.S. support for Israel" and "Gazans need food and medicine, not war" near Obama's rented vacation home in Kailua, an upmarket suburb on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, where he is in the second week of a vacation with his family.

Obama did not acknowledge the protesters when his motorcade drove past to take him to play basketball at his old school. He stared straight ahead sipping from a bottle of water.
"The president-elect values citizen participation in our nation's foreign policy, but there is one president at a time, and we intend to respect that," said Brooke Anderson, his chief national security spokesperson.
Obama has in the past called Israel one of the United States' greatest allies and has vowed to ensure the security of the Jewish state.
He has also said he would make a sustained push to achieve the goal of two states -- a Jewish state in Israel and a Palestinian state....
Those are contradictory aspirations.

These are unquestionably the contradictory aspirations of President George W. Bush. Mr. Obama has adopted Mr. Bush's policies.
One of our local radio talk show hosts tells his listening audience, I am guilty of Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS) because I have criticised this contradictory Bush policy, along with Mr. Bush's countless politically correct statements about the enemy.
Politically correct statements like: "The terrorists practice a fringe form of Islamic extremism that has been rejected by Muslim scholars and the vast majority of Muslim clerics -- a fringe movement that perverts the peaceful teachings of Islam.....The terrorists are traitors to their own faith, trying, in effect, to hijack Islam itself."
(Charles) Krauthammer defined Bush Derangement Syndrome as "the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, the presidency — nay — the very existence of George W. Bush"
Thus if one reacts negatively to these nonsensical, contradictory Bush -- soon to be Obama -- policies he or she is guilty of Bush Derangement Syndrome.

Gaza has been entirely "free" from the so-called (and misleadingly called) "Israeli occupation" since August 2005. The Gazan Arabs have been the recipients of fantastic amounts of aid, beginning with all those Israeli greenhouses. They chose to destroy the greenhouses, and chose to spend much of their aid money on building up an arsenal of 10,000 rockets and a great deal more war materiel. That has been their "project." That is what they wish to do. And the results are what they now see, and what they will continue to see. They have self-primitivized themselves, these spoiled children of international aid, who live in cities and towns that they carefully call "refugee camps" but that have cell-phone stores and DVD stores. Not exactly like the refugees from Arab violence in the southern Sudan, or in Darfar or Chad. Not even like the Afghan refugees, some of whom have had to sell their children to rich people in Kabul (see YouTube) in order to support themselves.
No, the Gazan Arabs have chosen their own fate. As for the "West Bank" Arabs, they would behave exactly as the Gazan Arabs behave, if ever Israel were foolish enough to remove its troops and its villagers from land that was clearly assigned to the territory meant for the Jewish National Home by the League of Nations, land to which Israel has a historic and legal claim, and a moral one, far superior to any of the local Arabs who, after the Six-Day War, were so carefully renamed as the "Palestinian people." The Slow Jihadists of Fatah are no different in their aims, or even in many of their means, from the Fast Jihadists of Hamas. The two differ only on tactics and timing.

What inattention to history, to context, to comparative injustices, to the real nature of the war -- a war without end, one not to be assuaged or diminished by further Israeli surrenders of territory or other concessions -- a war that can be managed, through deterrence, but not through Israeli concessions that will always and everywhere whet, not sate, Arab and Muslim appettites. The problem is not Israeli occupation or control.
