Yes, he really did say that: "No child is born but has the Islamic Faith, but its parents turn it into a Jew or a Christian" (Bukhari, volume 8, book 77, number 597).
This notion, that everyone is born Muslim, is a foundation of Islamic supremacism. Members of all other faiths are simply renegades from the truth faith of Islam, and must be made to feel their status as rebels by being denied equality of rights -- as Sharia mandates for Jews, Christians, and others.

Muhammad only mentions the parochial middle-eastern religions we'd expect him to know about, as an illiterate Arabian yokel. He doesn't mention Buddhism, Hinduism or Shinto; or Aztec, Inca or Pacific islander religions. These places and people were, or course, unknown to 7th century Arabs like Muhammad. But what about Muhammad's God? Was he also ignorant of geography and human society beyond the middle east; or did he mistakenly think the indigenous Australians were practicing a version of Judaism or Zoroastrianism? Neither of these mistakes feel very god-like.
I can only find one explanation that fits. Muhammad was suffering from a delusion. God was not talking to him, not even through an angel. Muhammad was "hearing voices".

Here's another huge difference between Christians and Muslims. In general, most Christians believe that if a person is not a Christian, it is because he hasn't really heard the "good news" about Christ yet. Most Muslims believe that if a person is not Muslim, it is because he knowingly and perversely rejected Allah and Islam.

Not exactly tidings of comfort and joy, and the contrast between what I had been hearing and the rant of the Muslim cleric was startling.

Dda: What you said about "unclean ecstasies" brought to my mind the Whirling Dervishes of Omdurman I saw. Mostly they ran around, did their chanting and rhythmic dancing; quite nice, really, but one man worked himself up into a frenzy shouting "Allah" over and over again and finally threw himself to the ground, legs and arms flailing in the dirt, still bleating the same "Allah, Allah!" Somewhat offputting - a fat man in a very grubby ecstasy.
If Wagdi Ghneim "claims" as what Mohammed says everyone is born a "Muslim" then why is the Christian faith growing much more faster then even Islam? Goes to show that the good news of the Gospels does go out to the four corners of the world.

Any muslim who tells me I was born a muslim and then converted to Sikhism can go f*#k themselves.
