The winnahs...and new champeens...

JWAwardwinners2008.jpg

Voting ended last night for the 2008 Jihad Watch Awards with a record number of votes, and in the absence of any close races this year the winners are at this point no surprise:

Dhimmi Internationale 2008: Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams

American Dhimmi of the Year 2008: Jimmy Carter

American Anti-Dhimmi of the Year 2008: U. S. resident Mark Steyn

Anti-Dhimmi Internationale 2008: Geert Wilders

I will contact ace anti-jihad cartoonist David Washburn forthwith, and Raymond, Marisol, Hugh and I will begin making preparations for the Awards Banquet. Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks to all who voted!

All well deserved winners, although I think it may be time for Jimmy Carter to just be elected to the JW Dhimmi hall of shame, and be done with him. The Archbishop of Canterbury is truly a sad specimen--and someone who should specifically be a defender of the West, no less. Yay Geert Wilders, and welcome to a well-deserved second term to honorary American Mark Steyn!

I look forward to seeing David Washburn's commemoration of the "banquet"!

Rowan and Jimmy look just thrilled to have won this contest...Especially Carter who apparently recognizes the significance...

Rowan Williams and Dhimmi Carter should be informed of their victories and why they've won.

Would they get a clue as to what they've been doing wrong, or actually feel proud to be doing a good job in the opinion of Bush's Saudi friends?

"time for Jimmy Carter to just be elected to the JW Dhimmi hall of shame"

I agree.
Time for a lifetime award for Jimmah, at least til he dies. The fool spends more time in Syria than he does here in the states.
Soon we can continue that tradition with an annual barry hussein award, until he warrants lifetime achievement status.

Glad to hear Geert Wilders won for Anti-Dhimmi Internationale of the year and Mark Steyn for Anti-Dhimmi of the year. After all they've done this past year, they're both worthy.

As for Rowan Williams and Jimmy Carter, they deserve their distinctions for being Dhimmis of the year.

You can send congratulations to Rowan by going to his contact page.

Jdamn, thanks for the links. Here's my favorite:

UK: Archbishop of Canterbury Says it "Wouldn't be the end of the World if the Church of England Disappeared"...

Uh, so *why* is Williams the highest churchman in the Church of England? He has no respect whatsoever for the church he supposedly leads. He and "Defender of [the] Faith" Prince Charles make quite a pair.

Yes! I knew Williams could do it! I'm so proud of the little Archbishop/Druid/Dhimmi. He should really get the award for the decade.

Wow, great pix of Mark and Geert! They look like Anti-Dhimmi rock stars! And congrats to them both! (Sigh ... my heroes!!!)

I agree, Jimmy the Dhimmi needs to receive a lifetime (un-)achievement award ... especially (and unfortunately) since there are so many new up-and-coming dhimmis springing up around the politico-religious sphere.

I still say with very little makeup Geert Wilders is a dead ringer for Bozo the Clown.

All are worthy winners, however....doesn't the U.S. winner have to be a "native born" citizen? Or is this covered under the "Obama Waiver"?

The only thing I know about the Church of England is from a Catholic prespective (split, pope's authority, Henry VIII, etc. etc) is the Archbishop a life time appointment? Can he be recalled? Impeached? Just curious as he REALLY is neglecting his defender of the faith role.

Abdullah, PHHHHhhhhhfffffft!

You just WISH you had his looks ... and locks.

LOL RecycledCG ... maybe we should institute a JW ConCon...

Jimmy doesn't look too happy with the outcome of the vote -- whatta pouty old man he is.

jdamn

I concur with your assessment of Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali. I've met him face-to-face and heard him speak. He's steel under silk. Point to remember: in the UK, bishops sit in the House of Lords. I hope he's educating his peers...

Don't forget Canon Sookhdeo, too, and his wife Rosemary. Canon Sookhdeo's book 'Islam in Britain' which came out some years ago, was pretty much a UK version of Spencer's Stealth Jihad. His wife's book focuses on what happens to kafir women who marry Muslim men and convert to Islam - she called it 'Stepping Into the Shadows', and I gather it's bleakly realistic.

Sookhdeo visited Australia a year or so ago and spoke to one of the biggest gatherings of the evangelical wing in the Anglican church, namely, the annual Katoomba convention of the Sydney Anglicans. He told them aaall about Islam...I am sure he minced no words; I spoke with a friend, who had attended, and heard him.

If Sookhdeo got a bishopric and Nazir-Ali got the Canterbury post, the C of E might become a very different creature.

Down at the parish level there are other anti-dhimmi voices - for example, the priest at St Aldgate's (or is it St Aldate's) Oxford, who put up a fine fight to try to stop the local mosque from broadcasting the adhan. (He came to the Oxford posting from a longish stint in Paris, which I suspect may have taught him a few things about Islam and Muslims...).

Here in Australia we have, of course, Rev Dr Mark Durie, who contributed some incisive little essays to Spencer's 'Myth of Islamic Tolerance', and wrote the book that demolishes the canard that Christians (and for that matter, Jews, worship 'the same god') - Bat Yeor gave it her imprimatur. He's a parish priest in Melbourne. There's another very strongly anti-dhimmi priest in my town that I know and have spoken with - he rang me up to praise me after I got a letter to the editor published in the diocesan rag, referring to dhimmitude and the books of Bat Yeor. And there is another priest who is very fierce about Islam and is not deceived in the slightest...she happens to be Jewish by birth and upbringing, believe it or not, and her 'style' is just as 'take no prisoners' as your own...I am sure she is busy educating the good parishioners in the church where she currently assists. My own parish priest is rapidly coming up to scratch.

Me, I'm praying as hard as I can that either Nazir-Ali or even Canon Sookhdeo can be boosted up to the Canterbury seat, once Williams goes.

Ladies and gentlemen

we all know what Wilders is made of, but it's worth revisiting his record, especially for the benefit of anyone new to this site who may not necessarily know much about him.

Here's one of his first appearances in the news at jihadwatch, from four years ago.

http://www.jihadwatch.org/dhimmiwatch/archives/004125.php

Make sure you scroll down and read the comments, there are some good ones.

Then, from 2005:

http://www.jihadwatch.org/dhimmiwatch/archives/004924.php#c70678

And here is the best bit, from *this* article

http://www.jihadwatch.org/dhimmiwatch/archives/015339.php

(about the abominable House of Saud demanding that Wilders apologise for making critical remarks about Islam and Mohammed - Wilders, needless to say, refused):

"Wilders said in an interview published last week that Muslims should throw away half their holy book if they wanted to stay in the Netherlands

"and that he would chase Islam's Prophet Mohammad out of the country if he were alive today".

If you scroll down and read the comments till you come to one by 'Morghodius'

http://www.jihadwatch.org/dhimmiwatch/archives/015339.php#c352989

you will discover that Wilders' proposed program for proper treatment of the 'prophet Mohammed', should the 'prophet' have been alive today and in the Netherlands, appears to have included tar and feathers as well as eviction.

QUOTE, from a translation of a Dutch newspaper report:

"the remarks of Wilders about the Koran and the Islamic prophet Mohammed (That if he was alive today Wilders would like to ‘’cover him with tar and feathers and kick him out
of the Netherlands’’)...UNQUOTE.

Bravo, Mr Wilders.

I still say with very little makeup Geert Wilders is a dead ringer for Bozo the Clown.

That's a Bozo no-no, boy!

Firstly in answer to an earlier question the Archbishop of Canterbury serves for a fixed term of office - it is not a post for life. He can be reappointed for another term of office or he can 'retire'. If he retires he gets a peerage and can continue sitting/speaking in the House of Lords.

I know Bishop Nazir Ali is pretty impressive but you have missed an even better anti Muslim in the CoE. I refer of course to Bishop John Smetanu, the Archbishop of York (number 2 in the church heirarchy). John Smetanu is a black who was born in Uganda and whose family moved from Uganda to England. He is a religious conservative, supports christians who are under threat from Islam, has traditional family values and says what he thinks!!

Some of you may know the excellent British tabloid newspaper 'The Sun' which is one of the top selling newspapers in the UK. It is a very Nationalist newspaper (Murdoch owned). From 1979 to 1990 it did not support Maggie Thatcher it worshipped her !! Some of the coverage during the Falklands War was incredible. The Sun is not PC and can hit the nail using very few words. During the Archbishop of Canterbury's idiotic remarks about introducing Sharia law in the UK earlier on this year the Sun put a picture of Dr Rowan Williams on the front page with the headline 'What a burqa'

I suggest that Jimmy Carter be given the "Lifetime Dhimmi Award" and retired from all further voting on for this award. He has earned it.

ivantheyid - in the light of your report on the Sun's 'what a burqa' headline, you might like to post to the 'Sun' a copy of the results of the jihadwatch dhimmi/ anti-dhimmi awards for 2008, with link to this page, seeing as Archbishop Williams got 'dhimmi internationale'.

They might find it amusing, even newsworthy...and the more journalists and editors around the world find out about the existence of Mr Spencer's website, and his books, and start reading the books and lurking here in this virtual hedge school of resistance to jihad and sharia, the better.

And now from Abdullah Mikail:

Allahu Akbar for the winners!

And especially Dhimmi "the peanut vendor" Carter!

Hah! I love this! (I'm ignoring AM's remarks on Wilders--what does he know?)

"All are worthy winners, however....doesn't the U.S. winner have to be a "native born" citizen? Or is this covered under the "Obama Waiver"?"

Mark Steyn isn't an American citizen. He has Canadian citizenship only.

That's why I referred to him as "honorary American Mark Steyn". He won in this category last year, also. He lives much of the year in the US, the rest of his time spent mostly in Canada and the UK. Just on the strength of his book, "America Alone", I consider him a patriotic American.

No Abdullah/Mike, clowns can't kick your ass, but Wilders can. ; )

Pat Condell should have won the anti-dhimmi internationale.

Pat Condell should have won the anti-Christian internationale.

Pat Condell should have won the anti-Jewish internationale.

Pat Condell should have won the unfocused anti-religion militant closed-minded bigot atheist internationale.
