TypePad woes

Many people have been writing to me complaining about TypePad, and asking me why on earth I switched from Typekey to TypePad.

Answer: I didn't. Typekey became TypePad. The change was imposed upon us, not initiated from here.

People have also complained that they can't comment at all, or can only post a comment after repeated failed attempts to do so, and have asked me why I haven't done anything to fix the problem.

Answer: TypePad says that the problem is here, within our system, but my tech expert has checked our system and finds nothing wrong. He also tells me that he will move us to a new system -- in fact, it will be a major move, involving more than just the comments -- but that won't happen until sometime in January.

Until then, I am very sorry for the inconvenience. It is often possible to post a comment if you log in, write a comment, copy it, and then open a new window and log in again when TypePad tells you you aren't logged in. I apologize for the cumbersome nature of this. Please be patient, and if you find some way to post comments that seems to work well all or most of the time, please let me know and I will tell the world.

'The change was imposed upon us, not initiated from here.'

That sounds like the Immigration (Islamification) policy where I live.

Be sure to click the "Yes" circle after "Remember me?" above the box before you preview or post. That's the only way I got it to work.

Skip the "preview" and go directly to "post", that usually works for me.... Uh... did it work?

I wrote to them last week to complain, and they admitted it was on their end. Said they were working on it. Let's hope so!!

the comment by Beagle just worked for me or the previous thread.

IE Click the "Yes" circle after "Remember me?" box when logging. I did notice that it refreshes the logging page a second time. Click the box again then log in. This may be the problem or symptom of the problem (the refresh).

I must say I am not a programmer.

George Gilder's book 'Sexual Suicide' was SO right. In a nutshell, men give up their 'short range intense sexuality' and submit to feminine cycles of long-range sexuality such as having children and caring and supporting them in a committed relationship. Don't give men a role as breadwinner and protector, glorify 'Sex in the City' male-type sexuality for women and MEN LEAVE! The real casualty of male joblessness will be the destruction of the American family and an explosion of barbarism and crime by young men who don't give a damn.

Also just click once when posting. It may look like nothing is happening but if you open another window/tab and navigate to this thread you will usually see that your post is posted.

This has been a problem for a long time and maybe unrelated to this threads subject.

I skip the preview step. The posting step is slowly, but gets there 99% of the time.

This slowness of posting comments began months ago for me.

Take this precaution EVERY TIME: Copy your comment so that if it gets held up, you don't have to retype the entire thing.

I changed my password and I think it helped a little. I typically only have to login to TypePad twice to post here. I'll check the 'Remmber Me' box and see what effect that has. I haven't been able to post at Atlas since before the takeover of TypeKey, and I don't think it's because of anything Pamela has done. This is frustrating since I enjoy AS a great deal and I would like to do more than lurk over there. I wonder if that was TypeKey softening up the area for TypePad to move in. Kind of like the Air Force does for the Marines.

*First attempt - if it works*

Regardless of the inconveniences of posting comments, it is your comments that make this site the best there is. Robert, Hugh, et al, do great work, but it's the community participation that comes from that that brings this movement to life.

Just got my copy of Stealth Jihad. Will no doubt have much to write on it in future.

I had no problems staying logged in on Opera, but I am using the latest installation of Firefox, so we shall see if I get disappeared or not.

worked for me. Tryign prwivew nau.

Yep, that worked, too!

You MEANT to say that, didn't you, PB.

It looks like PB's cat walked across the keyboard.

*3rd try*

I do it thus:

log in
write the comment,

select all the text (ctl-a)
copy it to memory (ctl-c) and press post,

Get the "not logged in" error and press login
get thrown back to Typepad
log in again

go back down to the comment box and paste the comment text (ctl-v)

Press post again and it goes through

=====

This way I don't have to open a fresh window.

Testing, one...two...three...

It worked!

mine just started working again today. It may have been a vista application error. go to windows update. I'm just guessing, but I did and now it works.

It is funny how this CHANGE (TypeKey/TypePad) came about when Obama won the race to the White House.

Expect more CHANGES like this one as promissed by Obama and his supporters. Gone are the good old days we enjoyed while they lasted - the world will get darker and darker.

Signing in (with TK/TP) leads to the JihadWatch server issuing two cookies (one carrying your handle, and the other some coded information about the TK/TP authentication). Every time you post (successfully) you get these cookies again for the browser to resubmit the next time. But when your post fails, you get no cookies back, and you are effectively signed out.

The point is that whether you get cookies back (your post has succeeded) or not (it failed) is determined entirely by the JihadWatch server's CGI script. TypeKey/TypePad isn't involved at all.

But random failures like this usually mean an environmental problem. That is, if the exact same actions lead to both success and failure in posting, then it isn't a problem with the software.

It could be something as simple as a transitory "disk full" problem.

Islam-Watch once used Community Server for their forum (they no longer do), and I found that a very elegant system to use. There are several ways articles, stories and other things can be classified, although an unfortunate aspect of that flexibility is high maintenance. Dunno if that's being contemplated here, but if it is, it would be a cool thing to have.

As for TypePad, I use IE8 Beta 2. In a tab, I open TypePad itself and log in. I then in another tab open JW, then sign in and compose my post. After I'm finally done, I hit Control-A, copy everything and then do a preview. If at the bottom of that window, I see a sign-out link, I go ahead and post, else I sign in again and paste my post and repeat the process. Sometimes, it's just 2 tries, and yesterday, on 1 occasion, it was as high as 9.

I see the same problem on Debbie Schlussel, but so far, not on Atlas Shrugs. I have a sneaky suspicion that it's because Atlas Shrugs is hosted on TypePad itself - http://atlasshrugs2000.TypePad.com At any rate, I'm glad that JW is moving to a new system.

And while that is being contemplated, can we ask for a friendlier comment editor, like the one at HotAir?

Attempt# 1. Yeeeaaaahhhh!!!! :-D

Anybody observed any browser specific dependencies? Jewel mentioned Opera; has anyone tried this on Safari or Chrome as well?

Attempt #4! See what I mean?

The voting for Dhimmi and Anti-Dhimmi awards - please re-assure us that it won't be going through TypePad!!! Please!!! Pretty Please!!!!!

I have not been able to post a message for days.

I find that if you click 'remember me' it allows you to sign in - but once the post goes to preview - it quickly asks you to sign in again.

But if you don't tick that box at the sign in - there doesn't seem to be any problems.

Infidel Pride - my browser is Safari and I'm having no problems.

poetcomic1,

Interesting comment, but what does have to do with Typepad? I'm baffled!

Why bother seeking a rational, technical explanation when an outlandish conspiracy theory will do? I say it's all part of a larger, insidious, all-embracing conspiracy plotted by Hindu Zionists and Crusaders!!

Be sure to click the "Yes" circle after "Remember me?" above the box before you preview or post. That's the only way I got it to work.

Neither thing works for me.

New problem surfaced yesterday in opening the “comments” section - I get the following message:

Internet Explorer Script Error

Line: 53
Char: 3
Error: Object Required
URL: http//www.jihadwatch.org/

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

Yes No

The “Yes” button must be repeatedly clicked before finally, 3-4 minutes later the “comments” page will load.

Anyone else have this problem?

Dave, that's a new one on me.

Strangely enough I'm not using remember me, and it's working fine. I'm just hitting "post". I'm kind of afraid that if I hit either "remember me" or "post" I will have problems again.

My browser (firefox) is also keeping it logged in here when I turn it on, i have a feeling it has something to do with not clearing my cookies. Hope that's helpful, though it looks like different things are working for different people.

Hello from the TypePad team - we found a secondary issue and are releasing a patch for it today. Hopefully your commenting issues will be resolved after that. Do let us know if it's not.
