Doing a little light reading today, I came across this:
"The truth is that Western civilization is rotten through and through and only continues because of the absence of its rightful heirs, namely the Muslims, who have themselves forgotten their deen [religion] and failed to take their divinely appointed task of re-establishing Allah's guidance for the whole of mankind." -- Muhammad al-Ghazali, Journey Through the Qur'an: The Content and Context of the Suras, Dar al-Taqwa, 1998, p. 47.
Who was Muhammad al-Ghazali? Why, he was one of those scholars who was working "so hard to bring Islam into the contemporary world." So says the celebrated Islamic reformist Khaleel Mohammed of San Diego State University:
"I find it difficult that Mr. Spencer should seek to devalue the work of those who work so hard to bring Islam into the contemporary world....But even so, the scholars who share the opinion that I have on the issues that I raised are many -- amongst them Fazlur Rahman, Muhammad al-Ghazali, Taha al-Alwani. I guess they are not authorities and need to be vetted by Mr. Spencer and his ilk?" -- Khaleel Mohammed, "Spencer’s Errors," FrontPageMag.com, May 10, 2005.
Oh, no, Dr. Mohammed. Muhammad al-Ghazali doesn't need to be vetted by me. You go right on citing him as a reformist, and I will go right on quoting him.
Right. Resume the march back to Seventh Century Arab Muslim verities and mores. That would be progress--not.
""The truth is that Western civilization is rotten through and through and only continues because of the absence of its rightful heirs, namely the Muslims,"

Oh, really?
Is it because homosexuals, though not totally free of discrimination, not only enjoy a lot of human and civil rights in Western countries, but they're never sentenced to death due to the sexual orientation with which they were born?
Or is it because child-marriages and pedophilia are forbidden, and punishable by law, in the West?
Or is it because of Western Women's rights? Sure, could there be anything moral (from a muslim point of view) about creating conditions where individuals like Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin, Ann Richards, Olympia Snowe and, despite the fact that she's black and a woman, Condi Rice could rise to prominent political leadership positions, instead of being sentenced to a life of cleaning, cooking, (in)breeding, taking beatings and reading Mein Qurampf, as should be the case with each and every "good" muslimah?
Or is it because it's possible for a black man to become president of the United States, instead of being Ayman al-Zawahiri's house negro?
Could it be that outlawing polygamy (which is being made legal in Britain through legislation "from the bench", as noted by Daniel Pipes) is what makes us "rotten to the core"?
Or perhaps it's because we Westerners support freedom of speech, including the right to depict the desert rat known in the muslim world as uswa hasana, al-insan al-kamil in cartoons that are far from flattering, though truthful about the true nature of that pedophile and the cult he founded (assuming that he actually existed)?
Or is it because Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians, Confucians, Animists, Agnostics and Atheists can live in the West without being subject to the treatment prescribed for non-muslims in Sura 9:29?
Or is it because apostates from islam can live in the West without any fear of being murdered for having left Mohammed's sick little cult?
I could keep typing such questions until my fingertips started to bleed...

And how dare that scumbag claim the right to inherit Western Civilization, its superiority and its conquests when muslims not only have played no positive role whatsoever in our achievements, but work tirelessly to destroy them?
It's simply unbelievable.
This probably falls under the category of silly questions, but does Dr. Mohammed ever answer your specific refutations?
I have one word for Khaleel Mohammed.
OWNED!
When you become a man, you put away Childish things, Khaleel. Reason is not one of these things; neither is integrity. But you wouldn't know what I'm talking about, would you now, Mr. Mohammed?
This man is obscene. His brain has been attacked by insane bugs which has eaten his brain tissue almost up. The West has given these fools technology, then they claimed they invented medicine, planes, internet, phones, airplanes. They say Jews, Christians lived in peace under Islam. Well peace meant that if a Jew walked down the road and a Muslim came by the Jew had to allow the Muslim the most space or die. Jews did it to stay alive. THEY WILL NOT GET AWAY WITH THAT MESS IN AMERICA TODAY.
BURQAS WILL FLY BEFORE I WILL DIE
AT THE HANDS OF A HOLY MAN
AND CONVERT TO ISLAM
THE CONVERT KNOWS NOT TO MESS WITH ME
IN THE US OF A
THIS IS MY LAND AND I LOVE IT TOO
IMMIGRANT MUSLIMS TAKE THE CONVERTS BACK HOME
WITH YOU AND LET HIM SEE WHAT REAL MUSLIMS DO!
TELL THEM THAT BLACK MUSLIMS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN PARADISE, JUST HELLFIRE! SORRY!
"Western civilization is rotten through and through and only continues because of the absence of its rightful heirs, namely the Muslims"
Parasites is the right word to describe them.
What do they have in common with the likes of Voltaire, Bach, Kant, Chateaubriand, Dostoievski, Milton etc ??
The greatest writers, poets, musicians, painters, come from our judeo-christian civilization that they despise.
Proud_Kafir7908,
The answer to all your questions is yes. I think thw West would better understand Muhammad al-Ghazali's view of things if it understood that in Islam good is evil and evil is good. Western civilization is rotten because it isn't rotten, Islamic civilization isn't rotten bacause it is rotten, civilized is uncivilized and uncivilized is civilized, enlightened is unenlightened, unenlightened is enlightened.
It is the perfect discription of Mohammad's character, and Mohammad's character is the measure of all things Islamic.
It is all very rational to Mr. al-Ghazali. Yes, even rational is irraional, and irrational is rational.
Just remember that logically and spiritually, al-Ghazali's world is upside/down. Remember that and you'll understand where al-Ghazali and his fellow Muslims are coming from.
Wonderful, wonderful riposte to the endless evil of Islam, Proud_Kaffir -- amen to everything you say.
Well that Khaleel Mohammed realy made a ASS out of himself by refering to Muhammad al-Ghazali as a reformer within islam. Some refomer indeed.
Thanks for mr. Spencer for pointing this out. khaleel mohammed is part of the Al-Taqiyya campaign and thanks to mr. Spencer he is now exposed.

Excellent post, Proud Kafir!
There is a nasty piece of revisionist history, David Levering Lewis' "God's Crucible: Islam and the Making of Europe, 570-1215", that posits that things would have been much better had Islam overrun Europe, and not have been stopped at the Battle of Tours in 732. In fact, the book has the famous Victorian-era painting of Charles Martel in battle on the cover.
Here's an excerpt from the sfgate review (The San Francisco Chronicle):
In 711, Islamic forces took the Iberian Peninsula, which they called al-Andalus. But in 732, as they charged across the Pyrenees into what is now France, the Franks under Charles Martel halted them near Poitiers. Eurocentric historians say this battle saved Christendom and decided the fate of the West. But according to Lewis, Charles and his warrior-ruffians have gotten too much credit: Arab sources saw the defeat as a temporary glitch in jihad, and Muslims and proto-Europeans checkmated each other at the Pyrenees for the next three centuries. "Accepted versions of history are written by the winners," as Lewis reminds us. Ironically, by "winning" at Poitiers, the emerging Europeans lost an opportunity to participate in the Islamic Empire, which might have advanced Europe's economy and culture 300 years.
.......................
The reviewer never bothers to reflect on why it is, if Islamic civilization was so obviously superior to that of Europe, that it was not Islam that rediscovered Aristotlian logic, or experienced a Renaissance, or an Age of Enlightenment, or an Industrial Revolution, or developed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
It is often said--at times a bit facilely--that all written histories are really more a statment about the historian's own time than about the period he is nominally covering in his work.
To the extent that this is true, what do works such as Levering Lewis's mean? It is an example of many Westerner's hatred for their own culture, and an endorsement--fully intended or not--of the view of Muhammad al-Ghazali and his fellow Jihadists.
If we in the West do not understand our accomplishments, and revere all the hard work of those who strove to create modern civilization over the centuries, we will never be able to defend it against such barbarians.
One cannot reform something when its base is rotten to the core. there is nothing to reform with islam but to destroy it like the way the aztecs and mayans went. death cults need to die sooner than later.
Just remember that logically and spiritually, al-Ghazali's world is upside/down. Remember that and you'll understand where al-Ghazali and his fellow Muslims are coming from.

Upside down or inside out or backwards. To muslims, good is evil and evil is good. Once everyone understands that, we can rid ourselves of islam and its demons.

"Light" reading? OMG-Robert, what do you do for "heavy" reading?
Whenever i took up the nasty verses of quran and objectionable points of hadiths and various voilent statements given by muslim leaders at time to time, with so called Maulanas/moulavees/muslim adeebs I always got denails and was told it as false propaganda by kafirs and shaitans and enemies of islam. When I show them the writtings in Quran and Hadiths or in a news-paper, they get confused and irritated. Then they start abusing me and warn not to hold the Quran/hadiths in doubt lest I will be put to harm.So much so that my parents also get threatened for my enqueries.
Under such circumstances how a muslim can be liberated from the darkness of Deen?
So I request UNO that freedom of speech should not be diluted in any any any case.PL. I requeste all the media persons and political persons and UNO members. Thanks.
