"Israel has never agreed to external forces determining its right to defend its citizens." "Olmert: Gaza op to continue, UNSC resolution not practical," from the Jerusalem Post, January 9 (thanks to Andrew Bostom):
Despite the UN Security Council resolution calling for a Gaza cease-fire, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Friday afternoon that the IDF operation in the Strip would continue."Israel has never agreed to external forces determining its right to defend its citizens," Olmert said in a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office following the Security Cabinet discussion on the UNSC resolution.
"The IDF will continue to work to defend Israeli citizens and will carry out all the objectives it was given in the operation," he continued.
Olmert said that the rocket fire from Gaza Friday morning "only proves that the UN resolution is not practical and will not be honored by the murderous Palestinian organizations."...
Go Israel go
Go IDF go.
Olmert said that the rocket fire from Gaza Friday morning "only proves that the UN resolution is not practical and will not be honored by the murderous Palestinian organizations."...
Of course not.
US operations are going on in Iraq, way after POTUS/Commander-in-chief decared "Mission Accomplished". And we all know what mission Bush accomplished in Iaq.
Israel better not emulate it's big-brother, USA.
Note to American politicians - This is leadership. Lot different from the pandering you all do.
No, it isn't leadership. Olmert is pandering, albeit in a good way. He knows damn well that there must never be a repeat of the second Lebanon war. In for a penny, in for a pounding. He is doing what he must to save the last vestiges of his dishonorable reign.
The siege of Gaza has been an act of aggression.
The war on Gaza that has been launched by the Israeli government has breached the Geneva conventions. Independent international organizations such as the Red Cross have been prevented from doing their job.
Not one of the acts of stupidity from Hamas justifies the acts of fascism by the Israeli government and Israeli military.
Stop acting like Hitler!
Peter Wood-
Seven spectacular lies in only five sentences - congratulations! That is some kind of record.
To Peter Wood
Sir either you are very nieve of just plain ignorant. Obviously you have never been to the Middle East or know what Islam is really about.
Read the history of the World or better yet the Bible.
If that fails to convince you then please feel free to GET A LIFE!
thank you
Had this been any other leader, I'd have granted that he's doing the right thing for Israel for the right reasons.
However, since this is Olmert, it's obvious that he's just playing to the Israeli electorate, which will reject Kadima resoundingly should he do what the US/UN says.
Peter Wood
You are the Nazi, albeit the Islamic variety.
Of course the UN resolution is nonsense. Krauthammer gives, as usual, a clearheaded analysis:
" [Accepting the UN nonsense] would be a terrible mistake.
It would fail on its own terms. It would have the same elements as the phony peace in Lebanon: an international force that abjures any meaningful use of force, an arms embargo under which arms will most assuredly flood in, and a cessation of hostilities until the terrorist side is rearmed and ready to initiate the next round of hostilities.
The U.N.-mandated disarmament of Hezbollah in Lebanon is a well-known farce. Not only have foreign forces not stopped Hezbollah's massive rearmament. Their very presence makes it impossible for Israel to take any preventive military action, lest it accidentally hit a blue-helmeted Belgian crossing guard.
The "international community" is now pushing very hard for a replay in Gaza of that charade. Does anyone imagine that international monitors will risk their lives to prevent weapons smuggling? To arrest terrorists? To engage in shootouts with rocket-launching teams attacking Israeli civilians across the Gaza border?
Of course not. Weapons will continue to be smuggled. Deeper and more secure fortifications will be built for the next round. Mosques, schools and hospitals will again be used for weapons storage and terrorist safe havens. Do you think French "peacekeepers" are going to raid them? "

Hamas must be totally eliminated. Israel would be doing everyone, including President elect Obama, a big favor by this. The UN is acting surprisingly stupid, even for them. Have people forgotten what a Islamic terrorist organization is? They should all be destroyed.
Now I see why Krauthammer never gets on the op-ed page of the Washington Post anymore.
Peter Wood, why don't you turn your "discerning" eye on Hamas? Maybe because you would have to correctly use terms like "nazi", "genocidal" and "terrorist"?
If Israel backs off this time there may not be another time. Hamas will declare victory and will become even more emboldened. They will continue to grow their propaganda show for all the ignorant, and foolish dhimmis' who dismally fail to see the uglinees that is the true Hamas and all those that support them. Actually the Palestinians who don't want this are now under a greater threat from Hamas then the Israelis'.
Hamas is a paranoid pyschotic group of killers who are murdering any Palestine that even shows the slightest opposition to their cause for the full destruction of Israel. In the past week they publicly murdered four Brothers who they felt where giving supportive information to Israel alone, their is some evidence that they may have even been crucified.
To let this ugly violence continue to fester is becoming extremely dangerous not just for Israel but for the whole region. Iran is instrumental in supporting these proxy warriors in an effort to destroy Israel, the only true western style democracy in the region. We are in fact seeing a minature Western style democracy trying to protect itself from an ever incroaching enemy from at least two if not three sides. Hamas has even murdered dozens of Fatah supporters in their attempt to control the Westbank.
This remains a battles of ideologies, one bent on aggressively trying to destroy no matter what while the other desperately wants peace in the region.
Peter, please pack your bags and join hamas.
You need this education, since the regular forms of education don't seem to work for you. Bring a diary so you can see and record islamic aggression, islamic stupidity, and real time fascism.
Before you go, you may want to get your hearing aid fixed, some new glasses, but don't fix your teeth(tooth) because you'll want to fit in.
Have a nice trip, hypocrite.
Greetings:
Back in my Army days, my favorite Platoon Sergeant told me the following:
There's a statue of an infantryman with his back pack and bayoneted weapon in the infantry training center at Fort Dix, NJ. The name of the statue is "The Ultimate Weapon." In this business, you don't have nothin' till some 20 year old with a long rifle tells you you have it.
Onward, Jewish soldiers.
This is the first time, in my memory, that Israel has not allowed itself to be swayed into a premature ceasefire that leads to more war. I hope that Olmert and his friends also can say two little words to Hamas: Unconditional surrender. But this is probaboy hoping for too much.
While I agree Wood's posting was odious and ignorant, why are people attacking him? Seems better to defend the facts than attack the poster.
I am glad the operation in Gaza is continuing even with this ridiculous UN resolution. This conflict should be seen as a dress rehearsal if the Jihadists imagine they won.
It occurs to me to wonder just how many thousands, or hundreds of thousands, of positive letters, emails, phonecalls, from sympathetic Infidels, many of them non-Jewish, have flooded in to Israeli embassies, and to the Israeli Foreign Ministry, and Israeli newspapers, since the Battle of Gaza began.
And whether that, too, besides the local political conditions (upcoming election and all that), may not be what is encouraging the Israelis this time to dig in their toes and grit their teeth and keep on truckin'.
"While I agree Wood's posting was odious and ignorant, why are people attacking him? Seems better to defend the facts than attack the poster."
Seems better still to ignore the poster altogether. 90% of the time they never debate their positions anyway.
He said on Ynet: "The rocket attacks this morning on the residents of the south only prove that the UN’s resolution is not practical and will not be upheld by the Palestinian murder organizations."

The only practical operation is one that completely eliminates Hamas as a political or militant entity.
It seems that my comments have lead to some quite interesting responses. It seems that even though I referred to Hamas as 'stupid', I have been told that I am an 'Islamic Nazi' and 'should join Hamas'. The facts are that the war on Gaza has breached the Geneva conventions, some activities that breach these conventions include preventing the Red Cross from doing their work, use of white phosphorus, and firing on that UN convoy (which lead to a halt in UN aid).
The fact is if you place a population of 1.5 million under siege in an area much smaller than most modern cities, don't be surprised if they start firing rockets at you. They will do that Hamas or no Hamas.
Hamas may be stupid, but they were democratically elected. I think the Israeli government is stupid and the (soon to be former) US government is stupid and the Iranian government is stupid, but I don't support bombing or invading these countries just because I don't like their government.
If the people who live under your occupation don't have rights as citizens, have their cities blockaded, at the same time as you are banning Arabic political parties, this is just like South African style Apartheid. When you start killing these people in large numbers, it becomes very close to Fascism. It's like some sort of very sad acting out behavior.
