As for that, the world will soon learn that it has to "choose" between any number of things and Islamic terror, as the latter will be increasingly resorted to whenever the jihadists want the infidel world to make concessions -- especially if they learn from the current conflict that the West, with enough terrorist threats and attacks is willing to turn its back on Israel. If that happens, what would stop the West from turning its back on its own freedoms, submit to a life of perpetual dhimmitude, and allow sharia courts to thrive -- all in order to avoid terrorism from various "aggrieved" Muslim groups?

I would submit that FM Livni needs to choose between Israel and Islamic terrorism, since Tzipi Livni supports the establishment of a Muslim terror state in the land of Israel.
I wish Livni didn't phrase it as terror, but as Islamic jihadist intimidation. I guess that would be tactless to all those peaceful Muslims who really want to be friends, all three of them.
Yeah let us choose between evil and good. Look at the world we live in Islam and Mohammedans consider everything non Islamic as EVIL, while some of the non Muslims are appeasing to Muslims with some kind of moral distortion.

Yes , a two state solution presupposes that the populations of both sides want to at least live in some sort of peaceful coexistence. Israel ( and the West) believe that the goal for all is eventual peace and cooperation. Palestinians overwhelmingly want Jihad ( in as much as this can be carried out).
I watched C-SPAN's coverage of the U.N. Security Council earlier tonight. As usual, the foreign ministers from Libya, Turkey and other Islamic states appeared to blame Israel for the conflict, whereas the Israeli ambassador Gabriela Shalev (bless her heart) vehemently condemned Hamas for causing the violence and inflicting total misery on the Palestinians. Shalev is the same woman who called UN General Assembly leader Miguel d'Escoto Brockmann (a 75-year-old Catholic priest) an "Israel hater" for having hugged Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during the 63rd General Assembly (which was aggressive and anti-Israel) last September.

I am an ex-muslim. No decent person should support Israel or any other group of people unconditionally.
Fortunately, people without bias can support Israel in this current crisis for it is acting as responsibly as possible in this grave crisis, and it is in the best interest of all to do so. Fundamentally HAMAS is justifying its efforts to annihilate Israel using Quranic verses and other sanctified Islamic texts.
The light shining on this situation is an opportunity for much understanding. Hopefully, responsible folks with integrity in the media and elsewhere will begin speaking more clearly and in larger numbers about the essential problem - Islam is a religion whose ideology calls for its supreme reign over all of the earth by any means necessary and the capitulation and subjugation of all that is not Islamic.

If Hugh Fitzgerald is an atheist , then how can he know 'truth' ... why would slavery be wrong if there is no Christian God? From HF's own accounts, and in not so many words, it can be inferred that HF was a "leftie" and leftism is the gateway that allowed Islam into the West. Perhaps "guilt" from his previously held "ideas" has resulted in HF's truculence toward the Islamic 'herd'. It is a delicious irony that HF could be attacking the fruits of his past indulgences.

Slavery is ok if you assume someone is worth more than someone else. However, you'd have to logically prove or at least conclude convincingly for all including the slaves that this is the case.
Up to that moment, slavery is wrong out of simple reason.

David, I'm aure you mean well by your statement, but it is a tad immature.
In long past era's, slavery was noble. Most employers in those days hired only their family members. Anyone else was a slave or starving. Being a slave was the only way for some to get a job. The alternative was starvation.
While I am a Christian, I have found that atheists very often have high moral standards such as the "Golden Rule". I have learned never to judge a person by his religion. Many atheists seek truth in science as well as other persuits. Their lack of conviction regarding a religious definition of the hereafter would not change their pursuit of truth. We would know a bad atheist when we saw him or her. The same is true for Christians, etc. Bad people do exist as Christians, atheists, Pagans, or other. Bad people exist in every town, city, and state along with the good people of this earth. The world has not changed in that regard. It was that way before religions existed. Remember the story of Cain and Able?
There is, of course, one very vile religion which does not even follow the "Golden Rule". That religion is Islam. I personally believe that Islam is directly from the Devil and exists on the dark side. An atheist would describe Islam differently but the meaning would be the same. It has been the scourge of the earth for almost 1400 years. Its resurgence in our modern world may be the death of us all. Posters here know this but a lot of people out there do not. That is the problem.

FreeSpeech missed the point of my post. What I was objecting to was the assertion that only Christians know the difference between right and wrong and why slavery is wrong. The Jewish God is my source of such knowledge, as the Christian God is Christians' source of such knowledge. I cannot accept the implication that a non-Christian is ipso facto unable to know those things. Is that clear now, FreeSpeech?
