Syria demands UN staff refuse gift of Israeli Golan wine

Will the dhimmis cave? I'm betting they will. "Syria protests Israel Golan wine gift to UN staff," from Reuters, January 10 (thanks to Rick):

Syria has protested to UN leaders that Israel distributed wine from the contested Golan Heights as year-end holiday gifts to UN staff and asked that they be told not to accept it.

Israel's UN mission confirmed it had sent out the wine but said this was perfectly appropriate.

"The Golan Heights is an integral part of the state of Israel and the wine produced in that region is some of the best in the country. As such, we were pleased to share it with our colleagues," Israeli mission spokeswoman Mirit Cohen said on Friday.

Israel captured the strategic territory from Syria in the 1967 Six Day War and annexed it in 1981 in a move rejected by the United Nations. The future of the heights is a key issue in any future Israeli-Syrian peace deal.

In letters to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and General Assembly President Miguel D'Escoto, Syrian Ambassador Bashar Ja'afari condemned the Israeli mission's "provocative and irresponsible behavior" in distributing wine from grapes harvested, and in bottles made, on the Golan.

"I would appreciate it if you would request all United Nations staff to refrain from accepting these Israeli gifts produced illegally in occupied Syrian territory," he said....

"Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust."

It is interesting that so many of Israel's attempts to reach out to a very hostile world, and especially in dealing with their immediate enemies the local Arab Muslims, follow the teaching's of Jesus Christ, one of their own, thought by Christians to be the Son of God, but generally rejected by the Jews as the Son of God.
I can think of few other people that follow Christ's teachings so admirably.

They heal those that hate them in Israel's hospitals.
They feed their enemies with the shipments of food and other supplies flowing into Gaza, from Israel.
And Israel constantly forgives its enemies - unbelievably - time, after time, after time, after their Arab Muslim neighbors break peace agreements.
Also, unlike the Arabs, the Jews do no not spread lies about their enemies using a complicit Western media.

So, all-in-all, the Israelis are living Christ's Gospel when it comes to dealing with their enemies.
Yes, and like God, Israel can be devastating in dealing out RIGHTEOUS anger.
Interesting.

Judging by the Muslim demonstrations taking place all over the civilised world we are going to be dealing out righteous anger ourselves if we have any intention of surviving this barbaric attack on humanity.

Go Israel go.

In 1981, when the Golan Heights were annexed, the Security Council did vote on whether the annexation was null and void, and the US vetoed that move. That's what's binding - in other words, Israel is under no obligations to turn over the territory.

While Ms Cohen is right, isn't her credibility undermined by the offers of her Prime Minister Olmert to put Golan on the negotiating table?

the Syrians are just jealous that the Israelis are able to do something productive with the Golan like growing vineyards, when all they could do when they had the land was lob missiles at innocent Israeli farmers below the Heights.

I'll drink to that. Some one slice off a hunk of that good Danish cheese to go along with the Whine. I'd like the Edam with dill, myself. On a toasted sesame seed bagel with a nice slice of lox. Where's Maria. She needs to make herself a more useful idiot.

I didn't know Israel even made wine. Whether it's good or bad, from hereon, I will BUY ONLY ISRAELI and Italian wines. NO more Frenchy wines for me. (sigh, but I will miss 'em.)

Gotta go ask Trader Joe's right now. Ciao!!

The Grapes of Wrath.

The only way those troopers refuse that wine, is if it comes from the top. Other than that, 'Uh, okay, cheers. Get a load o that Ja'afari guy. Snicker.'

I've bought some Golans white wine in the past exactly because of where it comes from.

Unfortunately I really didn't like he taste that much.

I also tried a bottle of red made by nuns in the Beekaa Valley of Lebanon, which was a little better.

That said, it's easier to produce pleasant-tasting reds than whites.

If I see Red wine from the Golans I won't hesitate to buy it though!

Ummah Gummah - One word:

SANGRIA!!

:) Makes even cheap ripple taste great! :)

The UN could return the wine after it passed through their bodies,......

If you get my drift.

Returning it to Syria, that is.

Although they mind mistake it for camel u.....................oops, family program and all.

If I were Moon, I would respond with a letter attached to an empty bottle that said 'there are more important issues at hand in the world today, get a life, and deal with your own problems, and quit wasting my time', sign 'hick-up' Moon.
