A London council has backtracked on rules forcing swimmers to cover up at a public pool to avoid offending Muslims.
Croydon council has removed the guidelines from its website after being criticised for barring non-Muslims if they refused to comply with the dress code.
They were put in place for weekend swimming sessions for Muslims at Thornton Heath Leisure Centre despite a general ban on wearing T-shirts in the pool.
The council's online statement read: "During special Muslim sessions, male costumes must cover the body from the navel to the knee and females must be covered from the neck to the ankles and wrists."
Croydon Mosque and Islamic Centre praised the rules but said it would never have asked for them.
Trustee Shuaib Yusaf said: "If it was designated as a Muslim session to encourage Muslim women to come along, to that extent I could see a degree of merit in it."
Here's a thought. A lot of new Islamic centers have appeared in the U.K. Shouldn't they take up the cause of providing Sharia-compliant recreational facilities?

Once Muslims in the UK are over 10% of the population or so, I imagine calls for Shari'ah compliance--among both Muslims *and* the hapless native population--will likely be a lot more strident.

I don't know what the UK Muslim percentage is right now. Nevertheless, they seem to be at the "poke and run" stage. Sort of like when a pre-teen child tries to "get away" with a little each day, but hides, lies, and retreats when confronted.
A little of that here in the US, but we can expect constant pressure in both places at whatever pace they can have success.

The official headcount of Muslims on UK soil currently stands at around 1.7 million, which many who live here would find hard to believe; then you have the illegals, which by definition numbers cannot be determined, but a conservative estimate of at least half a million would not be unrealistic.
It is staggering to hear UK Muslims blather on about being an excluded minority group when dim witted local authorities make provisions to alienate them even further.
An open goal was presented for individuals to speak out against these swimming sessions that promote segregation, but once again, we were met with a wall of silence.
If Muslims do not like our traditions, culture and values, they are free to pack their bages, do us all a favour and ship out.
