Aug. 20 (Bloomberg) -- The caning of a Malaysian mother for drinking a beer should be conducted in public if it is meant to set an example to fellow Muslims, her father said, days before the punishment is set to be carried out in a closed prison.
Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno, 32, faces six strokes of the cane after a Shariah court found the former model guilty of breaking a law that forbids all Muslims, including foreign visitors, from drinking alcohol. After deciding not to appeal, she may become the first woman to be caned in Malaysia.
The Shariah court in the eastern state of Pahang allowed 14 days from sentencing on July 20 for Kartika to appeal. After she declined, the court fixed Aug. 24 to 30 for the Prisons Department to conduct the sentence, said Mohamad Isa Abd Ralip, president of the Syariah Lawyers Association of Malaysia.
Kartika will be held for a week at the women’s prison in Kajang outside Kuala Lumpur, a decision that has puzzled her father, Shukarno Abdul Muttalib.
“As a Muslim, I agree with her punishment, but I don’t agree that it should be done in jail, she is not a prisoner,” Shukarno, 60, told Bloomberg in an interview. “If the authorities want to use this as an example, then the caning should be done in public in Pahang.”
Here's some twisted logic:
The businessman said it was embarrassing for his daughter to be brought to prison where criminals are held. If there was no alternative, Shukarno said he would ask the authorities to allow him and the media to attend the caning to ensure transparency....
I actually think the best way to have these barbaric practices banned is in fact to have them made public, taped, and broadcast for the whole world to see.

Perhaps the father wants her caning in public so he will not have to kill her in private. This may be a way to maintain family honor islamic style. It is not just that Kartika was drinking at the hotel. She was consorting with males who were not members of her family. Perhaps dad believes a public flogging reduces family disgrace because once she has received her islamic punishment publicly his family honor is restored in front of the community as a whole. Once you amputate the hand of a thief, or cross amputate the hand and foot of someone that your cleric opines is causing mischief in the land, all is forgiven until the next incident for punishment and satan's presumptive amusement.

I don't think it is amusing, but it exposes Feminists for what they are; rank disgusting hypocrites.
I've gotten into debates with so-called Feminists over the years and I've come to the conclusion that Feminists of the White variety really don't care what happens to women outside of the US and the West. If abuse towards women falls outside of the narrative of the White male and/or "White Patriarchal society" abusing women, Feminists don't give a damn.
The only thing I can conclude is that Western Feminists assume that Black, Brown, and Yellow women feel differently about being beaten, abused, raped, and killed than their White counterparts.
Of course, I'd welcome white Feminists to prove me wrong but everytime I state that, 'When hell freezes over' comes to mind.
