"Moderate" Tariq Ramadan hosts talk show on Iranian state television

Reformer or deceiver

The Muslim Brotherhood is at the vanguard of the stealth jihad. Tariq Ramadan is the grandson of its founder, Hasan Al-Banna, and enjoys an international reputation as a Muslim reformer. Some say, however, that he is anything but a reformer, and is merely a skilled practitioner of deception. See Caroline Fourest's book Brother Tariq for the evidence of that.

Good thing he is allowed in the U.S. again, eh?

"Ramadan criticised over Iran connection," from NRC Handelsblad, August 13 (thanks to Abigail Esman):

Opposition members in the Rotterdam city council are once again calling for the resignation of integration consultant Tariq Ramadan, this time because he is hosting a talk show on an Iranian TV station.

Ramadan, a Swiss Muslim academic of Egyptian descent, was hired by the city of Rotterdam in 2007 to help bridge the divide between the Muslim and non-Muslim communities. He also lectures at Rotterdam's Erasmus university.

In April, the right-wing liberal party VVD resigned from the city executive because of its refusal to sack Ramadan following a controversy concerning homophobic statements Ramadan allegedly made. An investigation by the city executive concluded at the time there were no grounds for the accusations.

Now, three opposition parties in the city council - Leefbaar Rotterdam, the Socialist Party and the VVD - are once again calling for Ramadan's resignation because of his collaboration with the Iranian state TV station Press TV.

Ramadan has been hosting a weekly talk show on the English-language Press TV titled 'Islam & Life'. The ruling Labour party has also said that Ramadan's work for Press TV affects his credibility, and has asked the city executive for clarification.

Leefbaar Rotterdam councilwoman Anita Fähmel said Ramadan's "Iranian hat" proves once more that he has a "double agenda". She said it was "unacceptable" that Ramadan is "on the payroll of the dictatorial regime of [Iranian president Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad, while at the same time he preaches tolerance here in Rotterdam"....

Or at least it ought to be.

Here are the most interesting comments that were made to this article, while we were resident at IntenseDebate.

HENRIK R CLAUSEN said - Oh, Ramadan is a reformer, indeed. It just happens that Islam has a somewhat different concept of 'reform' than what we've come to expect from Christianity.

In a Christian context, it means dissolving the institutional papal power and returning to the compassion and example of Christ himself.

In the case of Islam, it means reestablishing the institutional power of the Caliphate and returning to the will power and example of Muhammad himself.

Same word, different implications.

EPISTEMOLOGY said - The only moderate thing about Tariq Ramadan is his Western clothing, big deal. He wants to establish a caliphate in Europe, he wants to subdue us Europeans under the knout of barbaric sharia. He only practises taqiyya and sham. He' s a conman like his self-appointed prophet.

HESPERADO observed - Another interesting thing about this: Tariq Ramadan and the Muslim Brotherhood are Sunnis, and yet he is working with the Shia Iranian regime: Sunnis and Shia are not always in conflict; sometimes they work together against their common enemy -- us.
