More suicidal short-sightedness. Here is Kadyrov justifying honor killings. "Putin dashes to Chechnya, shows support for Kadyrov," by Dmitry Solovyov for Reuters, August 25 :
MOSCOW (Reuters) - Vladimir Putin visited Russia's restive Chechnya region on Monday, showing support for a local leader accused by rights groups of abuses and demonstrating Moscow's presence in a mainly Muslim region racked by violence.Central Russian channels showed Prime Minister Putin and Kremlin-backed regional chief Ramzan Kadyrov alighting from a military helicopter at Tsentoroi, the Kadyrov clan's home village in the southeastern Chechen foothills.
Putin launched a second war to crush Chechen rebels in 1999 that gained him widespread popularity and propelled him to the highest office. Violence has flared again in the past months, with attacks by militants seeking an Islamist state in the north Caucasus spreading to neighbouring Dagestan and Ingushetia.
Surrounded by heavily armed guards in camouflage and with sub-machineguns at the ready, the two men laid a basket of red and white roses at the tombstone of Kadyrov's father, Akhmad, who was killed in a bomb blast in 2004.
"It is thanks to this courageous man that the war ended. He gave his life for Russia and Chechnya," a sombre Putin said, to a roar of helicopter gunships patrolling the area.
Kadyrov faces strong criticism from human rights bodies after kidnappings and killings of human rights and charity activists in Chechnya. He denies any link to killings....
Russian history is rife with the strenght of the upperhand crushing all who oppose it, which is probably why islamic areas under Soviet control in the past never caused any real trouble the West ever heard about. When faced with a stronger totalitarian regime than it's own, islam backs down. This is the hand Putin seems to be playing.
The cries of "human rights" this and that mean nothing anymore after islamic hijacking of the UN rights commissions and the placating of islamic abuses by HRCs in the very host nations in the west who have HRCs for their own means at the expense of common sense. "Human Rights" only mean "the right to prosecute religious defamation when anybody talks trash about islam, and nobody else." And that sad truth is something liberal journalists like Dmitry Solovyov have no stomach to write about untill other braver souls in the MSMs will.
Pukin' would.
I loved your first paragraph, Kaffir Kanuck! You accurately & succinctly described Russia & Islam.
On a separate note, I have mixed feelings about JW abandoning Intense Debate, but I am thankful, on Russian-oriented posts such as these, that all the pro-Russian trolls aren't around to ding down any comment that expresses the slightest whif of concern about Putin or Russia.
And I am glad that the anti-Russia, anti-Serbia trolls cannot ding down any dissenting comments either.
But you are correct, Robert, Putin can be rather shortsighted at times. My view is that he supports Kadyrov because Kadyrov cooperates with the Kremlin and has firm control of Chechnya. Still, he's not a good leader in general and I don't like him, so I'd rather see Putin not supporting him.
It always surprises me that Russia still has problems with Chechnya. They've had so many problems with them throughout history, so I find it rather strange that they never dealt with the Chechens, so to speak, considering how ruthless Russia is.
Memo to Russia.
It might be less expensive, in the long run, to invest in psy-ops and a mass cult deprogramming effort. Pay for someone to dub all of Fr Zakaria Botros' shows into fluent colloquial Chechen. Then broadcast them: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, into Chechen territory. Intersperse freely with Bible recitation, also in Chechen. If Chechen Muslims complain about it: ignore them.
Do the same with Kazakh, Kyrgiz, Azeri, Turkmen, Uzbek and Tajik.
Ruthlessly squash any and all jihad raids that cross the borders into Russian Federation territory; ban new mosques and madrasas on Russian soil; and just keep on flooding your majority-Muslim southeastern neighbours with alternative mental programming, in the mother tongues, with the biggest and most powerful transmitters you can set up to do it.
But Mr. Kadyrov eliminated the vile Mr. Shamil Basayev, author of the Beslan outrage. Can't we at least agree that this was a good thing?

But Kadyrov has been instrumental in defeating jihad in Chechnya. He is the poster boy of Russia's successful Chechenization of the Chechnya war. We can do well to take some tips from Russia and empower both the Kurds and Mujaheddin-e-Khalq in Iraq. Instead, the US, in an iron grip of evil insanity, relentlessly harms and undercuts the Kurdish separatist cause, and actually helps the Iraqi government it brought to power to butcher Mojaheddin-e-Khalq trapped in their camp in Iraq, to arrest them and turn over to Iran, for torture and execution. Thus, the US is doing its damnest to ensure that Iran's now inevitable triumph in Iraq is total, total, total, and that its own inevitable defeat there is also total, total, total, without any silver lining, without salvaging anything at all out of that sorry affair, to make damn sure that the deaths of those American soldiers in Iraq and the horrendous waste of treasure on that losing war have been totally, totally, totally in vain.

Interesting perspective, Ruslan.
