Rifqa Bary to stay in Florida for now

Public pressure works. The next hurdle: September 3. "Runaway Christian Convert to Stay in Florida for Now, Judge Rules," from Fox News, August 21:

A 17-year-old runaway who claims she fled her Muslim family's home in Ohio because she feared becoming the victim of an "honor killing" will stay in Florida — temporarily — a judge ruled Friday.
Rifqa Bary, a Christian convert whose parents are Muslim immigrants from Sri Lanka, will remain in foster care in Florida until another hearing is held Sept. 3.
Rifqa fled to Florida after her parents, Mohamed and Aysha Bary, learned that she was baptized earlier this year without their knowledge. The parents reported her missing to Columbus, Ohio, Police on July 19. Weeks later, using cell phone and computer records, police tracked the girl to the Rev. Blake Lorenz, pastor of the Orlando-based Global Revolution Church.
Florida's Gov. Charlie Crist weighed in on the mater Friday with the following statement: "I am grateful to Circuit Judge Daniel Dawson for his decision to grant Fathima Rifqa Bary the right to remain in Florida. ... We will continue to fight to protect Rifqa's safety and wellbeing as we move forward."

I trust that police are monitoring and protecting the Rev. Blake Lorenz and his church?

You know how 'enthusiastic' and 'emotional' moslems can be.

There are 2 kinds of state-sanctioned death penalties:

a. Active - the state actively puts someone to death
b. Passive - the state passively allows someone to be killed

Rifqa would have fallen under b. above.

She's received time, nothing more - much needs to be done.

What if they don't kill her? How about 'mere' incessant verbal abuse and ostracization and such. A social worker can tell you all about 'scapegoated' children in a family. It is psychologically horrendous.

My email to Gov Crist came back as undeliverable. So I'll do a snail mail to get in before Sept 3. In AUstralia so far we haven't had any obvious Muslim childicide, but harassment and abuse are frequently reported from ex-Muslims

This was reported on on Fox News tonight - though no mention of Islam's position on apostasy.

Dhimmmis.

I just saw this on FOX News. It's only a couple of weeks--but it seems she is safe in Florida foster care for now.

I just hope this means the state of Florida is taking this seriously. Since she's 17, her being emancipated would work, too.

poetcomic1. First, this is aa arbic muslim family. She is a female. There is no scapegoating and I cannot believe you are trying to downplay the seriousness of what this little girl is facing. This is real- she is not protesting against her parents- she knows, muslims know she is to be killed- no reading between the lines. Muslims do not have a choice, nor do they want the choice. This primitive cult lifestyle demands blood for any disagreement or of leaving a muslim lifestyle-unless you bow to a Saudi King.

This was just a small victory for Rifqa. You can beat the Muslim forces will be working over time
destroy her in court on 9/3. If we are to help her we have redouble our efforts and continue to put pressure on our elected officials especially those in Florida. Tell friends to e-mail and write.

Honor killing is an Islamic evil.
In Islam gay men are forgiven
Gay women are killed
Fornication is ok for men because slaves are not considered human
Men can beat women
Women singers will have poison poured down their throat for singing

It is time to send muslims home and tell them to take their con verts with them.
My god said i can sing and dance and eat pork, drink wine and do as I please as long as it doesnt hurt others.

This is good for now. The extra time will give more time for more people involved to hear and learn more about her danger. Also this will anger the parents and others and the probablity of the father showing his true intentions increases.

Advance notice, since we are discussing the subject of what Islam does to apostates.

Canon Dr Patrick Sookhdeo, himself an outspoken apostate from Islam to Christianity, is putting the final touches to "a book which examines the issue of apostasy from Islam".

From the description in the Barnabas Fund newsletter:

"The first chapter looks at the law as defined by the source texts, the Qur'an, hadith and sharia), and the second considers the way in which is interpreted and defined by contemporary Muslim scholars, with reference to such issues as blasphemy.

"The third chapter examines its application in the world today, using a number of case studies".

I know Sookhdeo's work. I've read most of his books and reading him is eerily like reading Mr Spencer, though they are working quite independently of each other. He did contribute at least one essay to Mr Spencer's anthology, 'The Myth of Islamic Tolerance', and - like Rev Dr Mark Durie of Australia - did a thorough demolition job on 'A Common Word', that letter from the Muslims to the Christians in 2007 - he could see right through it, being a former Muslim who could understand all the weaselwording Islamspeak employed, and he took it apart, delicately, piece by piece, so we could all see what it was *really* about.

This upcoming book, by Canon Sookhdeo, on Apostasy will not be a whitewash but a lid-lifter; it sounds as though it will be a worthy modern successor to Samuel Zwemer's classic study, 'The Law of Apostasy in Islam'.

Keep an eye open for it; with Zwemer's classic, it would be a good book to acquire and distribute and publicise as widely as possible.

..............

I saw another spot on FOX, and they did make it clear that Rifqa's Muslim family was reported to have threatened to kill her because she had converted to Christianity.

I wish they had delved into the horrific history of death for apostasy--and how this is enshrined in the "holy" texts of Islam--but they did not avoid the subject entirely.

I'm not sure who else is covering this story at all. Just to see it dealt with at all is somewhat heartening.

In addition, they had the results of a poll--and the overwhelming majority thought she should be allowed to stay in Florida. I believe it was a scant *six percent* of respondents who thought it would be safe for her to return home. Some common sense and decency, at least.

I wish Spencer would then listen to Dr. Durie about the 'Umdat al-Salik and the crucially wrong translation -- according to Dr. Durie -- which Spencer keeps citing with regard to female circumcision. I've already noted this 3 times now, and Andrew Bostom a year ago has already noted it. Apparently, Spencer has not gotten the memo.

I saw a report on Fox News this morning where two female attorneys were arguing the case and I wanted to scream! One of them was completely ignorant about islam and denigrated Christianity and the Christian ministers who took her in, accusing them of being members of a fanatical Christian cult and brainwashing this girl. This lawyer insisted that she should be returned to her "loving" parents, who were meek, innocent, harmless folks who wouldn't harm an insect, much less their daughter.

Muslim fathers murder their daughters every day and then proudly turn themselves in to the police. This girl will be killed if she is returned to Ohio, either by a relative or a member of the radical local mosque. Imagine the unbearable "shame" her family must be experiencing after so much national publicity! They are surely so mortified that they won't show their faces in public and not one of them would hesitate to kill her on sight if they could get to her.

This girl has socked it to her devout muslim parents and her hometown muslim "community", and I see no way she could atone for her multiple sins even if she wanted to. She became too Westernized; converted to Christianity; ran away and traveled on a bus by herself; sought shelter and succor from the Christian clergy; spoke against her parents and islam in a public courtroom; and begged a judge to protect her from certain islamic justice. This was a bad day for islam and the Bary's. The only way this girl will ever be safe and free is if they put her in the witness protection plan, change her identity, and move her to a secure, undisclosed location. Since she's not even a citizen, I don't know what will happen but she has a bull's eye on her back.

Susanp,

Unfortunately, the West remains PC MC, and according to PC MC, it is far more likely that Christian groups "brainwash" people, especially impressionable young people, than that Bush's "moms and pops like the rest of us" could ever kill their own daughter over fanaticism.

"Honor killing" should be "Honor" killing. The honor is debatable, but the killing is real.

I have written to both governors giving them my personal experience with situations like this and providing plenty of evidence of what occurs when authorities fail to take the victims claims seriously and don't take needed action. There are plenty of cases to cite. Hopefully it is enough to make all the parties diligent in their protection. I still think we will have to keep pushing them hard to make sure they do it right. i recommended the WPP, which they will have to do quietly and beyond public scrutiny for it to work.

Hopefully, this will lead to an expose of the "honor" killings that occur here in the west and to a greater understanding among the average citizen about what Islam really means.
