I am still in England and have been very busy this week with work on the documentary on the Islamization of Europe that I mentioned here. And so I have missed all the excitement as the news broke yesterday that Rifqa Bary, who says that her father threatened to kill her after she converted from Islam to Christianity, will not be sent back to Ohio -- as Marisol noted here.
Many many thanks to all Jihad Watch readers who contacted Florida Governor Crist and other officials on Rifqa's behalf. You folks are the heroes of this piece.
Pamela at Atlas Shrugs has done extraordinary work on Rifqa's case. She has been closely involved with the case and broke details on Rifqa's story that no one else had. She has the latest on it here -- another hearing is set for September 3, so Rifqa is not out of the woods yet. I'll be keeping you posted, and watch Atlas Shrugs for updates.
More coverage of this story on FOX News on today's Glenn Beck show. There was footage of Rifqa in court stating her case--she was rational and poised--and said she still loved her family, despite the threats and abuse--but was adamant about her risk if she were to be sent back.
Unlike previous coverage I had seen, this show was absolutely upfront about "honor killing". I hope someone is supplying this judge with the necessary information about the prevalence of this hideous phenomenon in the Muslim world.
"I hope someone is supplying this judge with the necessary information about the prevalence of this hideous phenomenon in the Muslim world."
For some people, information is not enough. They have special filters in their heads to process that information with the result that Islam, and most Muslims, always seem to come out whitewashed.
Gravenimage - you said "I hope someone is supplying this judge with the necessary information".
Someone did. Go over to Phyllis Chesler's blog and you'll discover that Rifqa's lawyer asked at least two people to write directly to the judge: and those two were Phyllis Chesler (Jewish) and Ibn Warraq (apostate from Islam). I think they may have made an impression.
Thanks for the information, DDA.
I know what you mean, Hesperado. Luckily, this case seems to be getting some media attention. Maybe the judge will pay attention to that, if nothing else.
This case in not close to being over. Anyone who is interested in saving Rifqa should once again
e-mail or call anyone who can influence this case before the next court date (9/3). A good place to start would be with Governor C. Crist in Florida.
NOT ONLY did Pamela Geller (Atlas Shrugs) Lead the Way in Getting Info on Rifqa's FIGHT FOR LIFE into the "Public Domain", PAMELA ALSO BUILT AND LED THE PUBLIC CAMPAIGN that led to Yesterday's Victory for Rifqa and American Freedom.
When ACCURATE History is written ,of these SERIOUS TIMES, Pamela will be there as a Modern MinuteWOMAN standing on Today's "CONCHORD BRIDGE".
Since the objective is to preserve the liberty of the girl, there is probably limited need to play the Islam card. She simply can apply to the court for emancipation. All she really has to prove is that she can support herself until she is eighteen.
This is a packet of the law to invoke and the forms to be filled out. When I looked this up, I had some trouble finding a site that was not overwhelmed with people seeking the same information.

You're beginning to get the no caps thing. Now start using spell check. It's Concord, not Conchord.
