Rotterdam's city government moves to sever ties with Tariq Ramadan over his show on Iran's regime-financed PressTV

Another "moderate" falls from grace: "The sources at Rotterdam city hall said the board of council executives and the mayor feel Ramadan has lost credibility as an adviser on integration issues."

"Rotterdam fires Tariq Ramadan over Iranian TV show," by Mark Hoogstad for NRC Handelsblad, August 18 (thanks to all who sent this in):

The Rotterdam city government wants to break ties with the Muslim philosopher Tariq Ramadan, sources at city hall say.
Ramadan (46) has been an adviser on integration for the city of Rotterdam for two years. Recently, he has come under criticism because he hosts a weekly talk show on the Iranian TV station PressTV, which is financed by the Tehran regime.
The sources at Rotterdam city hall said the board of council executives and the mayor feel Ramadan has lost credibility as an adviser on integration issues. The decision was expected to be made official after a 2 p.m. board meeting on Tuesday.
Rotterdam hired the Egyptian-Swiss theologist to help 'bridge the divide' between the Muslim and non-Muslim communities. The city government also funds Ramadan's chair at the Erasmus University, where he has been a visiting professor of Identity and Citizenship since 2007.
Ramadan, whose principal message is that Islam and European culture do not have to be at odds, is a controversial figure. He already came under fire in the Netherlands in April because of statements that were allegedly homophobic and misogynistic. ...

A "philosopher" he is now?

There is really no end to how the media fools soil themselves. This pathetic, primitive is at best a pseudo-intellectual. To call him a philosopher is an insult to all philosophers who actually had someting to offer.

"The sources at Rotterdam city hall said the board of council executives and the mayor feel Ramadan has lost credibility as an adviser on integration issues."

That should not have been hard to do as it is very clear Muslims do not want to integrate...

"The present controversy says far more about the alarming state of politics in the Netherlands than about my person."

Alarming to Jihadists, a call to arms for those who are awakening to the threat within.

I keep thinking of David Lynch’s Dune with the repeated vision, “The sleeper must awaken.”

Kind of ironic considering the islamic overtones of the oppressed peoples of Dune.

I can't agree more, Tariq Ramadan is no philosopher, he's the pseudo-intellectual pied piper of Islam in Europe. His message that Islam and European culture don't have to be at odds, is simply preposterous. I've never heard that stoning of adulters, killing of homosexuals and apostates, denying the evolutionary theory were compatible with European culture, to name only a few issues. And there was this article here on JW informing us that we're allowed to eat mermaids. In Europe you normally don't eat anything that doesn't exist. Oh, I forgot the fairy tale about the emperor's new clothes, that was written by a European, the Danish writer Hans Christian Anderson.

Anyway this is great news. But Geert Wilders' overwhelming success in the European election has already shown us that the Dutch have woken up, they've realised what's going on in their country and in the rest of good old Europe. This decision is only consistent. Hope other European countries will follow.

BTW I'm missing our trolls, got so used to them, they were always good for a good laugh, very good, albeit involuntary comedians. They vanished with IntenseDebate. Can't you debug the whole system and reactivate it? There were some other good features, too, such as our avatars, some were really funny and the convenience of replying directly to a co-poster etc.

Slightly off topic, but has anyone noticed that BO seems to have decided that "separation of church and state" no longer exists, at least when it comes to Islam. Here's the start of an article at American Thinker:

"Here is but the latest act of submission to Islam by your State Department. A State Department cable has just been sent out with this announcement:

The Bureau of International Information Programs (IIP) has assembled a range of innovative and traditional tools to support Posts' outreach activities during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan."

Read it all at:

Bridging the divide between Muslims and non-Muslim communities is like bridging oil and water.

Mr. Geert Wilders is Netherland's only hope.
Using Google translator for following, so anyone that speaks Dutch is welcome to correct it.

This should be passed around to the entire Dutch population.

The word "philosopher" means "lover of knowledge." Therefore the term "Muslim philosopher" is a blatant oxymoron.

As for "bridging the divide between Muslims and non-Muslims" - isn't that like the arsonist showing up to put out the fire?? His time would be more appropriately and better spent trying to bridge the "divide" between jackals and their prey.

"Ramadan (46) has been an adviser on integration for the city of Rotterdam for two years. Recently, he has come under criticism because he hosts a weekly talk show on the Iranian TV station PressTV, which is financed by the Tehran regime."

It is like hiring the philosopher Goebbels as adviser on Jewish integration. ;-)

"...the board of council executives and the mayor feel Ramadan has lost credibility as an adviser on integration issues."

Ramadan had credibility on integration issues? Since when?

Oh, what seems to have put the cat among the pigeons - or what, to vary the metaphor, let the cat out of the bag - was the fact that someone went and had a look at a couple of people that Tariq Ramadan had appearing with him on his 'Islam and Life' program broadcast by English-language Iranian Islamic propaganda broadcaster 'Press TV'. People whose views he did not make even the tiniest effort to rebut; people whose views it appeared he fully endorsed.

None other than Gorgeous George (or Ghastly George Galloway), whom all our UK posters know only too well (and whom the Canadian PM, bless him, recently denied entry to Canada); and an exceedingly nasty Holocaust-denier and Jew-hater, Nicholas Kollerstrom. (I say, exceedingly nasty, because I read a choice excerpt of what Kollerstrom said about Auschwitz - obviously Kollerstrom prefers to ignore what allied soldiers saw when they went into that hell-hole, and others like it or worse, and liberated the surviving prisoners; and I don't think he wants to think about what was done there to non-Jews like Maximilien Kolbe, either).

I quote, from the article on a Dutch site 'science guide' that was re-posted on New English Review, concerning Tariq and 'Press TV':

"Ramadan is joined on his show by British parliament member George Galloway, who was kicked out of the Labour Party for his support of Saddam Hussein, as political commentator.

Dr. Nicholas Kollerstrom, a former astronomer at University College London, who was fired for Holocaust denial, is also on the show."

From the article - "Ramadan, whose principal message is that Islam and European culture do not have to be at odds, is a controversial figure."

Let's run that through the decoder that longterm jihadwatch readers gradually acquire.

"Ramadan, whose principal message is that Europeans should submit quietly to their allah-appointed Muslim overlords...".

From the article "The city government also funds Ramadan's chair at the Erasmus University, where he has been a visiting professor of Identity and Citizenship since 2007."

Now: if the city fathers in Rotterdam are going to boot Tariq Ramadan out of his position as 'adviser on integration', then surely they should do the thing properly and *also* boot him out of his chair at the 'Erasmus University'.

Furthermore - I have a suggestion re. the Professorship of Identity and Citizenship.

I think the good burghers of Rotterdam, once they have sent Tariq Ramadan packing, should offer that newly-vacated Professorship to Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

One thing that shines through Ms Ali's book 'Infidel' is her falling-in-love with the Netherlands and the Dutch, while she was learning about Dutch history at the university of Leiden. Her very Somali admiration for courage and cleverness means that she admires the courage and toughness and cleverness of the Dutch as they fought their long battle with the sea and achieved their freedom from outside enemies, and built a society that she clearly recognises as admirable and pleasant. She can see that cooperation and trust - something her own Islam-suffused society of warring clans, all suspicion and aggression, did *not* have - was what enabled the Dutch to win their battle and hold their ground against something even more terrible than human enemies - the sea.

Let *her* tell Dutch students what a great society their ancestors have bequeathed to them and how they should fight tooth and nail to preserve it and pass it on to their children in all its beauty.

*She* belongs at a university named after the great humanist and scholar, Erasmus; Tariq Ramadan does not.

I am surprised that the spirit of Erasmus is not howling and throwing things like a poltergeist up and down the corridors of his eponymous university in sheer fury that an abominable sophist like Ramadan is even permitted to set foot on the premises.

If Tariq Ramadan can be evicted from the Erasmus University, never to return, (and, preferably, be evicted from Dutch soil altogether) then I am sure that the spirits of Erasmus and Hugo Grotius and Benedict Spinoza ...and Corrie ten Boom who risked her life to hide Jews from Islam-admiring Nazis - will heave a great sigh of relief and give each other high fives.

"Muslim philosopher..."

Bwahahahahahaha!

Ramadan, whose principal message is that Islam and European culture do not have to be at odds..."

Freedom of speech? Freedom of conscience? Sculpture? Almost all European forms of painting? Almost all forms of music, and certainly all church music (Bach, Brahms, etc.)? The political and legal institutions that rest on a view of man as an individual, with his worth not defined by his being part in a collective (the Ummah of Islam), and not because he refuses to think or question or develop morally (as a {"slave of Allah" is encouraged never to think, or question, or morally develop, when it comes to the Total Belief-System of Allah, and that, in turn, has consequences all over the place for that "slave of Allah" and his ability to understand the universe). Islam, the Islam of Tariq Ramadan as of his father, an agent of the Muslim Brotherhood who worked in Germany and Switzerland, and of his grandfather Hassan al-Banna, who founded the Ikhwan, the Muslim Brotherhood, in Egypt in 1928, and whose fiery speeches would lead, as in the 1940s, to his Muslim mass-audiences being whipped up so they would then go and attack Copts and Jews and destroy their shops. When Tariq Ramadan says that Islam and European culture are not incompatible he is lying, and in any case, wherever they are incompatible, he expects European culture to yield, now that Muslims happen to be geographically in, but can never be of (as long as they remain Muslims), uniquely among all the different groups of immigrants -- Chinese, Hindus, Buddhists, and so on -- because Islam does not brook compromise, Islam is superior to everything else, and Muslims are "the best of peoples." Muslims are not here to compromsise with others, but little by little to spread, or rather to impose, Islam - by removing everything that may be considered an obstacle to Islam. European culture, its writers, its art, its science, its music, its freedoms, its laws, its customs, its everything, all constitute such obstacles to the spread of Islam.

It is amazing that this Muslim Arab and full-time smooth propagandist for Islam, or "Islam-in-Europe" which he presents as something quite different, somehow, from Islam in the Middle East or North Africa or Pakistan or anywhere else, is still allowed to travel freely within Europe. He ought long ago to have been investigated as an enemy agent. Which enemy? Not a state, but an ideology. He who managed to acquire Swiss citizenship because, long ago, his father -- as an agent carrying onthe work of Tariq Ramadan's grandfather, Hassan al-Banna -- happened to live in Switzerland -- livedin Switzgeraldn.

Ramadan has grown up in Europe, but always inside Islam. So he, who has been allowed access through his schooling to the advanced Western world, and might have discovered, and taken advantage, of the mental freedom that that advanced world allows, instead was raised, and continued to allow himself to be raised, with his brain hermetically sealed from any influence other than Islam, Islam, Islam. The mental portcullis was already down t his birth, and he has not even tried to raise it even a centimeter since.

Whatever he has learned in the West, including the ability to express himself in French, and his knowledge of the thought patterns and understandings and assumptions of non-Muslims, has been put at the service of only one thing -- the furtherance of Islam. For in Islam, the true object of worship is Islam itself. And theirs not to reason why. And for all his smoothness, Tariq Ramadan is one more "slave of Allah" -- a hissing snake of a slave, and a menace to the naive and the unvigilant and the uninformed and those who are not otherwise well-prepared, but a "slave" nonetheless. A servile snake, like the one in the line by Frost about Eden, "when the Snake stood up for Evil in the Garden."

That's Tariq Ramadan:

The Snake Who Stood Up For Evil In The Garden.

Good for Rotterdam.

A moment of cogency in a sea of somnambulism.

What Western infidels see as "bridges" (between Islam and the rest of the world) Muslims see as seige engines

Every mosque is a Trojan Horse.

Every "good will ambassador", a sleeper agent.

Each 'immigrant", a colonizer.

Ramadan is an infil-traitor.

Let him go rotate in Mecca.

........ and another one bites the dust.

"adviser on integration for the city of Rotterdam... currently teaches at the College de Saussure, a high school in Geneva Switzerland."
We shouldn't teach kids bs.

"Lost credibility"??

He never had any to begin with.

I also second everything Hugh said above. Couldn't put it better myself. Hugh, you have the gift of the gab.

Good for Rotterdam! Better late than never. I hope this will lead other Europeans to take a hard look at Ramadan and his ilk.

It's only a small victory. Ramadan still has that "chair" at the Erasmus University (paid for by the city of Rotterdam), and recently Bush's ban on Ramadan to travel to the U.S.A. was overturned --

July 18, 2009
"Federal appeals court reverses decision banning Tariq Ramadan from entering U.S."

Overruling a prior decision stating that Ramadan "had not provided 'clear and convincing' evidence that he was unaware" that a "charity" he supported had connections to Hamas.

http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/026955.php

"I think the good burghers of Rotterdam, once they have sent Tariq Ramadan packing, should offer that newly-vacated Professorship to Ayaan Hirsi Ali." -- dumbledoresarmy, from above.

Excellent suggestion!

The city council of Rotterdam and a representive of the Erasmus University have repeatedly asked Ramadan to break his ties with the iranian state funded T.V. He did not do that so they (the city Rotterdam AND the Erasmus university) fired him.
There is a cancelation period and that period is 2 months. Ramadan has anounced that he will fight the decision to sack him in the courts and he is blaming the 'Wilders effect' for the decision to sack him. The city has already paid him at least an estimated 1,5 million euro so far. And i can tell (from what i see in the polls so far) that the majority of the people are glad that the city council sacked Ramadan.

Ramadan makes a fortune -- and he makes it from the very non-Muslims who have been paying his salary. First there was Geneva, where even the Swiss couldn't stand him any longer, and his post was not renewed. Then he managed to swing a lectureship at Oxford, at the very special place, the Middle Eastern part of St. Antony's College, a place that famously, at least till recently, under the late Albert Hourani, was notorious as a haven, and kind of diploma mill, for Arabs and other apologists for Islam who need to get a quick D. Phil. (no courses, no waiting) with the usual "construction of the 'Palestinian' identity stuff" -- the kind of thing that beilins and khalidis have been churning out for the last 30 years, while the real story of the Middle East, and the most important world-wide threat to freedom -- Islam -- has been deliberately overlooked.

Now the city of Rotterdam, having paid him, apparently, $1.5 million, has gotten rid of him. What about the University of Leiden? Will it get rid of him, whose mere presence undercuts the reputation of a place that contains a Center named after C. Snouck Hurgronje, the greatest Islamist, possibly, in the Western world?

The Arabs already help Ramadan out -- in fact, the Sultan of Oman or other Gulf Arabs may have arranged for, and may be paying for, the Leiden post. But let Ramadan loose from any institutional affiliation with Western, advanced, centers of learning. Let it be clear that he is paid for by fellow Arab Muslims alone. For any non-Muslims to pay anything for the care and feeding of the likes of Tariq Ramadan makes no sense, takes the "they sell us the rope with which we will hang them" of the Bolsheviks to a whole new level.

"The city government also funds Ramadan's chair at the Erasmus University, where he has been a visiting professor of Identity and Citizenship since 2007. "

That is certainly one of the most ridiculous professorships I ever heard of. No doubt he professes citizenship for all Muslims who want to immigrate there & sponge off the country and yet keep their Islamic identity.

How stupid can these European governments & universities be? Their irresponsible stupidity boggles the mind. Right wing governments, whatever their shortcomings, could not be worse and I think they are probably Europe's only hope. It may not be too late, if only the liberal populations there would stop drinking what must be Alzheimer inducing Kool Aid served for free by Muslims.

I'm glad to see the arrogant, self-serving, narcissistic little prick being shafted.
Remember his debate with Ayaan Hirsi Ali?

"Right wing governments, whatever their shortcomings, could not be worse and I think they are probably Europe's only hope. "

I think we have seen a New Rule coalesce in the last 10 years: and that New Rule is this:

Any individual politician, or any political group, that is deemed pejoratively to be "right-wing" by the mainstream, is more likely than not a rational force against Islam and therefore a good choice for any elections or appointments.

It doesn't matter that quite a few of these alleged "right-wingers" aren't really right-wing at all when measured by any elementary guidelines of political persuasion and platforms (e.g., Pim Fortuyn, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Geert Wilders). All that matters is that, by branding them with that pejorative stigma, the mainstream deformed by PC MC has unwittingly aided us in identifying our intelligent allies.
