In 1929 Jews in Hebron were living on land they had "occupied" for 3,000 years. "Remembering the Hebron Massacre: Until 1929, Jews had lived in the city for three millennia," by Jerold S. Auerbach in the Wall Street Journal, August 27 (thanks to Dan):

In August 1929, that community was suddenly and brutally attacked. Incited by the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem—who claimed that Jews were endangering Muslim holy sites on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem—Arab rioters swept through Palestine. In Hebron, the carnage was horrendous.
It began on Friday afternoon when Arabs attacked Jews with clubs and murdered a yeshiva student. The next morning, joined by local villagers, Arabs swarmed through Hebron screaming "Kill the Jews." They broke into the home of Eliezer Dan Slonim, where many Jews had gathered for safety. There they wielded knives and axes to murder 22 innocents. In the Anglo-Palestine Bank, where 23 corpses were discovered, blood covered the tile floor. That day, three children under the age of five were murdered. Teenage girls, their mothers and grandmothers were raped and killed. Rabbis and their students were castrated before they were slain. A surviving yeshiva student recounted that he "had seen greater horrors than Dante in hell."
When the slaughter finally subsided, 67 Jews had been murdered. Three days later, British soldiers evacuated 484 survivors, including 153 children, to Jerusalem. The butchery in Hebron, Zionist and religious officials alleged, was "without equal in the history of the country since the destruction of the Temple." Sir Walter Shaw, chairman of an exhaustive British royal investigation, concluded that "unspeakable atrocities" had occurred. [...]

Thank you, Mr. Auerbach, for reminding us of the story of the Jews of Hebron, brutally massacred by Arabs for no crime other than living in this historically Jewish city. This all happened before Israel was a state. No amount of historical revisionism or extravagant Arab propaganda can change the fact that murderous brutality was directed at the Jews and has not ceased all these years. What has dismayed and shocked the Arabs is that all their crimes and terror have not benefitted them. They have lost and continue to lose. Giving up territory to them to achieve peace will never work. The story of Hebron is the best illustration of that. Even the Jewish community of 1929 with no national borders was too large for the Arabs to tolerate. Even small children were not allowed to live. This should never be forgotten when the subject of "land for peace" rears its head again. Obama, please take note.

An unspeakable atrocity was committed by Arabs who now call themselves "Palestinians" on Aug. 23, 1929 in Hebron on Shabbatniks, the most peaceful Jewish people in the world who refused to bear arms not only on Shabbat, but on any other day. There is a gate to the old city of Jerusalem that Muslims under the Ottoman Empire blocked with stone work. However, you can still see the outline of the gate.
A cave reputed to be the burial site of the Jewish patriarch Jacob was also blocked up.
This suppression goes back a long long way. Even a stone near Mount Sinai, reputed to be the one that Moses hit with his staff to cause a spring to emerge, has an iron Crescent on it.
The funny thing is that Jewish faith doesn't hinge on any of these things. They're not required to make a pilgrimage to any of these sites.

You know what got me about it?
First: the Jews didn't realize that most of the Muslims, whom they regarded as their friends and neighbours, hated their guts; that the smiling mask of 'friendship' and business relations, concealed a seething will to murder, and not just to murder, but to defile, humiliate, and *hurt*. (Out of a population of some 18000 Arabs who would have been, overwhelmingly, Muslims, exactly *19* acted to protect their Jewish neighbours from the mob. 19 out of 18 000 - now *there* is a 'tiny minority'. 1 in 10 000.)
It is only when one has knowledge of taqiyya, and of the teaching of hatred against the Infidel (and especially, the Jew), and of that awful Muslim line 'we smile at some people, though our hearts hate them', that one can make sense of paragraphs like the following:
"They [the Jews] considered their relations with their Arab {that is, Muslim - dda} neighbors to be strong, based upon years of friendship and shared experiences..." Second: besides the massive lie that the Muslims of Hebron had obviously been living, there are clear specific instances of taqiyya in this account, as well. It stands out a mile that the Muslims knew damn well what was coming. It was not spontaneous. It had been prepared and planned. And yet: the Muslim leaders deliberately told specific, soothing lies to the worried Jewish leaders..one assumes, merely in order to prevent the Designated Prey from becoming spooked and fleeing before the butchery could be committed.

This 'test case' in Hebron rather suggests to me that the argument that the nasty Muslims are the tiny minority and the nice Muslims are the majority, is wrong; it's the other way around.
