Why did Rifqa Bary's father dissolve his prosperous business and declare himself indigent?

Was he planning to...take a trip to Sri Lanka?

Rifqa Bary Update: "'Apostate' girl's father," by Pamela Geller in the Washington Times, August 27:

[...] Rifqa's parents, Mohamed and Aysha Bary, signed affidavits declaring themselves indigent. That's why the Florida court appointed a lawyer for the father and a lawyer for the mother. Both their lawyers are being paid by the taxpayers of Florida. Worse still, Aysha and Mohamed Bary's lawyer asked the court for more money at Rifqa's custody hearing last Friday, so that they could wage a campaign to get Rifqa back home -- a campaign involving depositions, legal documents, filings, etc.

Yet in a Dun and Bradstreet report filed by Mr. Bary himself for his business, Bary Gems, he states his business does $237,561 yearly. Mrs. Bary makes high-end bridal gowns (that income may be off the books, but she works every day). It would appear she works for Custom Bridal Veil -- a company owned by a Risana Bary, who works with Mr. Bary at Bary Gems. Risana is apparently Mohamed's wife -- but why is she listed under different names in different places? The questions regarding their honesty are inevitable.

Bary Gems offers some high-ticket items. You can get a genuine blue sapphire for a mere $2,900. And if Mr. Bary dissolved the business in early July, where are the proceeds? Where is the inventory? The Barys owned a gem import business. If they liquidated, they must have had some inventory or orders or cash on hand.

The Barys live in a very affluent neighborhood in Westerville, Ohio, in a house they rent. They're not buying because pious Muslims aren't supposed to take on mortgages -- that would involve usury, and is forbidden in the Koran. [...]

In mid-July her mother went through Rifqa's private things and found her journal. It was then revealed to her mother that Rifqa was a practicing Christian. Mrs. Bary called her husband and alerted him that Rifqa was still practicing Christianity in secret.

Mr. Bary cut his business trip short to return home immediately while Mrs. Bary packed the family's bags to go back to Sri Lanka. Whether Rifqa would have been honor murdered before or after they returned to Sri Lanka is known only to the Barys.

It was very clear that Rifqa's father planned to flee the country with his threatened daughter. According to very recent documentation, Mr. Bary dissolved his business on July 29 -- after Rifqa ran for her life (fearing an honor killing for her apostasy) and was discovered in Florida....

No, no, no!
There's nothing "fishy" going on here . . .

. . . Well, except for . . .

EVERYTHING!!!

It's like a barrel full of week old scrod parts.

It STINKS of lies and deception.

This is outrageous.

"Aysha and Mohamed Bary's lawyer asked the court for more money at Rifqa's custody hearing last Friday, so that they could wage a campaign to get Rifqa back home -- a campaign involving depositions, legal documents, filings, etc." -- from the story.

Since when is a parent involved in a custody battle entitled to taxpayer money to pay the legal expenses? Anyway, it appears that Mohamed Bary has money, his "indigent" status notwithstanding. Perhaps he should apply for some of the stimulus money, or maybe from one of the many Islamic charities. The gall!

Thank you for staying on this story and keeping it front of the public, Robert. Perhaps, just perhaps, a few people among the perennially deaf and blind will read it and start to get a clue about the nature of the underlying problem. For Rifqa's sake, let's hope it includes some judges, prosecutors and lawmakers.

So, do you suppose the IRS is going to investigate Mohammed, Aysha, and Risana Bary?
I doubt it. They're Muslim and untouchable.
Remember the untouchables? They were the Chicago mobsters led by the infamous Al Capone and, pursued by FBI agent Elliot Ness, alway managed to excape justice. It was the IRS that eventually led to the mobster's capitulation.
It is my opinion that the IRS should be investigating these "Muslim mobsters" more closely and find out just how much money they are skimming from the American taxpayers. I would bet that it's in the billions of dollars.
They should also be investigated concerning their secret marital relationships. How many many have multiple wives that are being declared as sisters and aunts? Or how many of their employees are smuggled into the country to work for slave wages in sweat shops? I wonder.
Where s the FBI and the IRS? Are they investigating you and your business?

Not wishing to detract from the point of this article, and slightly OT, but there's one bit not quite right:

Ms Geller says They're not buying because pious Muslims aren't supposed to take on mortgages -- that would involve usury, and is forbidden in the Koran. [...]

The Koran does appear to prohibit "usury", but not, by implication, the payment of interest such as in a mortgage. "Usury" is defined, in my Macquarie Dictionary, as: an exorbitant amount or rate of interest, esp. in excess of the legal rate.

I don't think those of us paying mortgages would like to think they're paying "exorbitant" amounts, let alone "illegal" amounts of interest....

Still, as I say, that's a side issue, (though it's often trotted out -- incorrectly in my view -- that Muslims are not allowed to pay interest; they are, it seem to me; in other words "usury" does not equal "interest").

How would the folks in the Loonwatch moroncracy or at the Daily Kos interpret this business dissolution? As Rifqa Bary's father "amassing the funds necessary to regain legal custody of his daughter by all legal means possible, no matter the cost?" Yeah, that's probably how they'd see it...

The father was planning a 'hit and run', just like Amina and Saras father...

Dear Robert, as long as you and Pamela report about this story in detail, the authorities can't give her back to her parents. Daddy obviously plans murder, there is no reason, why anybody should have any doubt about Rifqa's statement, she's perfectly sane. I don't understand why some people even think about trusting the parents.

Pamela has been doing yeoman's work on this story, as well as stories involving many other Muslim women who are either threatened with murder or actually murdered by their Muslim family members. It is always - always - tied to Islam, notwithstanding the troll apologists that regularly appear to whine about it being "cultural."

epistemology is right, as long as an informed public is watching she is safe. Kudos to Robert and Pamela.

" pious Muslims aren't supposed to take on mortgages -- that would involve usury, and is forbidden in the Koran."

Although the interest thing is hardly the point here, let me chime in: interest is nothing more than rent on capital. Why is it ok to rent a house, a boat, a tool, etc but not capital? Yet further evidence of the illogic and capriciousness of Islam.

A poll conducted by the Orlando Centenel at least shows that the people of Orlando get it even if the Orlando writer Mike Thomas apparently doesn't

POLL:

Return Christian girl to her Ohio Muslim family?

Fathima Rifqa Bary, 17, says she became a Christian and fled Ohio to stay with an Orlando pastor's family because her father vowed to kill her for converting. Should she be sent back to her own family?

Yes. Kids who run away tell fibs all the time to justify leaving. There's no evidence her family would kill her. (200 responses)

No. If there's any chance at all that she is telling the truth, whoever returns her will have to answer for anything bad that happens to her. (1165 responses)

Maybe. Florida and Ohio should thoroughly check out her family first. (176 responses)

Time for a "beer summit" with the muslim president.

The "untouchables" actually were Ness and his associates, not the mobsters. They were called that because they couldn't be bought, like so many of the local police and judges. You're right, though, that it was the IRS that nailed Capone.

Why would anyone doubt the fears of that young girl? The Qur'an states clearly that if someone leaves Islam, that person is an apostate and should be KILLED!!

Islam/Muslims thrive only by lies.
