An Afghan-born terror suspect, Najibullah Zazi, has pleaded not guilty in a New York federal court to charges of conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction.
A lawyer for Zazi entered the plea on his behalf Tuesday, saying the government has yet to prove evidence of a conspiracy. Zazi was present for the brief hearing.
Prosecutors have accused Zazi of conspiring to use homemade bombs against unspecified targets in the United States. Law enforcement officials have said the plot may have involved New York City's mass transit system.
Investigators say they know the identities of at least three of Zazi's associates but have not released information about them....
Prosecutors say Zazi spent more than a year plotting the attack on the United States with co-conspirators.

Allowing Zazi to be treated as a common criminal is a mistake. He should also be treated as an enemy combatant.
During the Cold War when a Soviet or Eastern European agent was caught in America he was always told to plead not guilty no matter how much evidence existed against him. By contrast, in countries like France and Britain, similarly apprehended agents were told to cop a plea as quickly as possible or just plead guilty and expedite the entire process. The reason for the difference was that American law goes to extraordinary lengths, some of which are not rooted in common sense, to insure that an innocent individual is not inculpated by the judicial system (and really slimy persons known as defense attorneys take full advantage of this). This unfortuante pattern continues to the present day, only substitute Islamic radical for Communist agent. And the guy presently in the Oval Office, if he has his way, will only add to the defense options of those who seek free people harm.
I agree with your analysis but unfortunately there are too many Americans, far too many in fact, who foolishly see things differently. Islam produces adherents who don't just commit crimes; it produces believers who want to wage war against humanity in the name of their twisted religion (and in this struggle so-called moderate Muslims are of little or no use for those who cherish liberty). They should be treated not "merely" as criminals but, as you maintained, as enemy combatants, not even entilted to coverage by Geneva Convention rules respecting captured soldiers in uniform.
We're in a war to the death between the Islamic conception of how the world should be run and the Western view of what constitutes a proper world order. Co-existence between these two very different outlooks is not possible and thus the free world should act accordingly to save itself. Waging war, not engaging in criminal prosecution, should be of paramount importance.
Maybe Najibullah Zazi has pleaded not guilty in hopes of getting free and continuing down the dark path of Islamic jihad. Nawww, ya think?? Until the day he comes to know that Islam is a terribly harmful fraud taken in totality, he will continue to believe that he was doing the right thing.

Zazi has already explained this! When a clerk at the beauty supply store--rather stunned by the quantity of peroxide he was purchasing--asked him what he planned to use it for, he smiled and said, "I have a lot of girlfriends". (Just the thing to throw the Kufr off!)
