WASHINGTON - Former US president Jimmy Carter said Sunday Palestinian leaders were "seriously considering" a one-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, following a visit to the Middle East.
"A majority of the Palestinian leaders with whom we met are seriously considering acceptance of one state, between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea," Carter wrote in an op-ed piece in The Washington Post.
The original piece can be found here. It is much more extensive, and this AFP article effectively summarizes the relevant points about the final er, one-state solution. Anyway, read this next bit sitting down:
"By renouncing the dream of an independent Palestine, they would become fellow citizens with their Jewish neighbors and then demand equal rights within a democracy," he explained. "In this non-violent civil rights struggle, their examples would be Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela."
Note that Carter never names any names in this story or in the WaPo piece linked above. Why? That would be political suicide for Palestinian politicians -- and quite possibly lethal in the literal sense as well. As for the scenario Carter envisions, one need only remember that Hamas maintains its determination to destroy Israel, and even "moderate" Fatah has reaffirmed armed struggle as an option. The putative presence of "democracy" alone does not ensure human rights and civil liberties. Just ask the Iranians. Or Afghan Shi'ite women. Or, stay local and ask the democratically elected Hamas officials.
Meanwhile, there's the Slow Jihad of demographic conquest:
Carter noted that in doing so, Palestinian leaders were taking into consideration current demographic trends.
He said non-Jews were already a slight majority of total citizens in this area, "and within a few years Arabs will constitute a clear majority."
Carter added that a two-state solution for the conflict was "clearly preferable" and had been embraced at the grass root level but that a one-state solution was "a more likely alternative to the present debacle.
One can't help but recall Qadaffi's "Isratine" manifesto. Or as he called it in a January op-ed, a "one-state solution." Addled minds think alike, eh?
That's awfully gracious of the Arabs to consider a one-state solution whereby they would inherit the infrastructure developed and built by other people. I'm sure this propsed solution stems from their desire to live with Jews as equals as they live with Copts, Kurds, and Assyrians as equals in other Arab countries. I imagine in time Jews would enjoy the democratic freedoms that Blacks in the Sudan enjoy with their Arab neighbors.
Jimmy Carter took leave of his senses a long time ago. Alan Dershowitz takes him apart in his book "The Case Against Israel's Enemies" and with good reason too.

I don't think I've ever read more BS than that ever. Where does he get these ideas from? How does he think that's possible given what Hamas and the Palestinian Authority have stated, declared and then implemented for decades? The PA are liars and their "peaceful" overtones in English to Western audiences are seriously undermined by the hatred broadcasted from their television channels, printed in their newspapers and spouted by their leaders in Arabic to their own people.
In fact, those Palestinians who have genuinely desired peace with Israel (and there aren't too many of them unfortunately) or who collaborated with them in the past have been killed or kicked out of Hamastan/West Bankistan. If you ask the average "Palestinian" who their heroes are, they'd all be violent people: Arafat, Saddam Hussein and Haj Amin al-Husseini.

Carter was an ignorant fool when he was in the White House & age has not brought wisdom.
I tend to consider Mr. Carter a fool, but in this case I think he expresses Israel's options quite poignantly: The alternative to a two-state solution is a one-state solution.
The latter will be national suicide by demographics, so it is high time for Israel to start working toward the former. It doesn't matter how much sacifice it will take and how unsatisfactory the attainable outcome may be; the alternative is worse.
There is another 1 State solution. Forced evictions to Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, and Egypt.

There is no "solution" to the endless Jihad against Israel. There is only handling the problem, and the same applies to the countries of Western Europe, now in the earliest stages of being besieged from within, themselves, and hardly knowing what to do, and thinking that if only we do this, or we do that, or we force the Israelis or the Americans to do this or to do that (give up land, give more money, give arms, give this and give that), somehow the texts and tenets and inculcated attitudes of Islam will somehow change. Why would they change? Why would Muslims think anything other than that their methods are working, they will triumph, even without being militarily superior, because of the confusion, distractin, weakness, stupidity of the Western world's elites, and many of its people?

Again, it seems that I am the only one who sees the great possibilities that our inspired Best President Ever brings forth: a one-state solution where-in Israel annexes the West Bank and Gaza. Israel should immediately accept the offer.
How would that work? Well, Israel is a Jewish nation and the surrounding nations are Islamic. Fair is fair. All who would remain in the Land of Israel would be required to convert to Judaism, just as the Islamic countries are essentially free of any Jewish inhabitants. Fair is fair. Want to 'elevate' Carter's position among the palestinians? Let's all thank Carter for introducing the notion of Greater Israel and separation of combatants as the best solution for long-term peace. The man is a genius.
Let us trumpet the headline: Carter calls for Greater Israel. Maybe an editorial in the WSJ praising his bold initiative and courage in risking the ire of radicals. That Pres. Carter is a brave, inspired peacemaker.

Jimmy must be suffering from advanced dementia--problem is, people actually take him seriously. He is on par with BO in terms of Israel, though, single state-where the Islamists overrun the Jews and Christians and destroy everything.

Notice, Carter never claimed that the "Palestinians" were prepared to become good citizens of democratic Israel--just that they were going to take over Israel through superior demographics.
What would such a place look like? Well, there are so many decent, productive Israelis, that things would limp along for a while.
But then, between the skyrocketing "Palestinian" birth rate, and the increased violence against Jews, Christians and atheists and resultant Infidel immigration to the West, Israel would eventually come to resemble--Gaza.
Gaza is the model of a "Palestinian" state, without Israeli influence, and virtually free of Christians and other non-Muslims.
In other words, a wretched wasteland that oppresses women, squelches art, cannot support itself without massive amounts of foreign aid, and whose main export is terrorism.
How can anyone want this for the vibrant, successful state of Israel?
