As usual, and as also in Pakistan, the police are on the side of the Islamic supremacists. Islamic Tolerance Alert: "Church Firebombed in Egypt After Opposition From Muslim Neighbors," by Mary Abdelmassih for the Assyrian International News Agency, September 12 (thanks to Hal):
Cairo (AINA) -- The Coptic Church of Saint Paul and Saint Peter in the town of Shebin el Kom, 60 kilometers northwest of Cairo, was burnt on 9/8/2009, No casualties were reported. There were conflicting reports as to the cause of the fire, the Egyptian police told the media that it was caused by a "short circuit" even before carrying out an arson investigation, while others believe it was arson.
Church authorities are keeping tight-lipped over the fire and refusing to comment before the results of the investigation are out. According to Free Copts, the priest and witnesses dismissed the possibility of an electric short circuit or a candle as the cause of the fire....
Several sources close to the church were interviewed, who asked to remain anonymous, believed that the fire was arson, caused by Muslim neighbors who were against having the church in their vicinity. They said that they have received numerous threats to have the Church firebombed. "We were enraged when they told us that the police report would be issued, as usual, blaming a short circuit for causing the fire, or in the worst scenario the arsonists would get off scot-free through the State Security's unofficial reconciliation meetings, in which Copts are forced to give up their rights for criminal charges," said one church member.
"The police decided before any forensics were carried out that the cause of the fire was caused by a short-circuit," said an unofficial Church source. "This cannot be true, as the electricity was shut off as usual before locking the Church and the panel boards are intact as the photos show."
Sherif Ramzy of Free Copts said that Coptic witnesses told him that while the fire was burning, Muslim neighbors were elated. To portray their happiness, Muslim women were letting out the traditional celebration sound "zaghroota."
Copts United were told "The reasons behind the church fire are the problems between the Church and the Muslim neighbors who are unhappy with the presence of the Church in their vicinity. The congregation was harassed, the priests insulted and threatened, and Koran chanting was played over the loud speakers during the Church services."
Coptic News Bulletin aired an audio with members of the Church who said that two Muslim men were always hovering near the Church since its inauguration a year ago, threatening and intimidating the congregation. "Everytime the Church priest reported them to the State Security, they disappeared for a while before coming back with more threats," said a Church member.
The Saint Paul and Saint Peter Church was originally an old Roman Catholic church, but due to the dwindling number of Catholics in Shebin el Kom, it was purchased by the Coptic church three years ago, and the interior was partly converted to Coptic Orthodox liturgical use. Coptic Church services started under last year. "The Catholic church was closed for a long time, so when the Coptic church started its services, the Muslims in the neighborhood became very angry," said one of the parishioners to Coptic News. "The neighbors were throwing dirty water from their balconies over us as we walked. The Muslims also complained that when weddings were held at Church, the number of invited guests with cars, led to traffic congestion."
History shows that Islam has trouble co-existing peacefully with other religions.
If Muslims were free to leave Islam without the required penalty of death, it would soon collapse.
Why can't we be friends? (Koran 5:51)
Why are we your enemies? (Koran 4:101)
Why are we the vilest creatures? (Koran 98:6)
Why are we pigs and apes? (Koran 2:62-65, 5:59-:60, 7:166)

The church, originally used by the Catholics, had been closed for a while, but was then reopened (and presumably refurbished) by its new incumbents, the Coptic Christians. Under the insanely cruel and viciously petty laws affecting dhimmis (non-Muslims living under the Muslim boot), dhimmis are not allowed to build new churches *or to repair old ones*.
So the Muslims are *enraged* by the sight of a church resurgent - an old church, closed for a while, that had been cleaned up and redecorated and filled with worshippers. And they burned it down.
Even though sharia is not, on paper, *the* law of the land in Egypt, it seems clear that an awful lot of Muslims there think it is, and act accordingly; and that the authorities in Egypt, when they see Muslims punishing de facto dhimmis (the Copts) for a perceived breach of the rules, refuse to do anything about it.
After reading story after story, from all sorts of places, featuring Muslims behaving toward vulnerable minorities of Christians - and Hindus - *exactly* as they have behaved in this village in Egypt, I cannot but conclude that Islam is a religion tailormade for psychopaths, for bullies and thugs who, if they have power, are encouraged to use that power to *hurt* the Designated Victims (non-Muslims) as sadistically as possible. Arson is good and right and moral and just for a devout Muslim... so long as he is burning down a Christian church because those *wicked* naughty Christians *dared* to fix it up and make it look nice and lived-in again.
"The Muslims also complained that when weddings were held at Church, the number of invited guests with cars, led to traffic congestion"
Sure, and what REALLY bothered the Muslims was probably that there were Christians who weren't dead. . .
But don't you worry your little heart, I'm sure they'll try to find a way to take care of that soon - as usual.
"The Muslims also complained that when weddings were held at Church, the number of invited guests with cars, led to traffic congestion."
Muslims in Europe occupy vast areas for their parking lots close to their mosques.
I googled the term "zaghroota". But all I found was nonsensical. I don't have the right mentality to understand Islam. Can't help it, I'm used to rational thinking.
TRAFFIC congestion!!!!! Kill the infidels!!!
"...Koran chanting was played over the loud speakers during the Church services."
nothing but vicious Muslim harrassment.....
Islam was created by a short circuit, also.
Named Mohammad.
And how many mosques in the West are torched? Muslims in the West enjoy great freedoms, including the liberty to preach their faith, seek converts and build their houses of worship. And yet in Muslim lands, how easy is it for Christians (and those of other faiths) to preach their religion, solicit converts and construct churches (or even just keep the ones in tact that are already existent)?
The Islamic world is a giant hypocrite, employing, indeed expecting, a double standard that is as rank as rank can be. All part of the reason why disgust with Islam grows across the world with each passsing year. I need no lectures from any Muslim about tolerance for, or misunderstanding of, their religion. Such lectures are a joke.
I'm starting to have serious doubts about that whole 'gates of Hell' not prevailing thingy St. Paul was yammering about.
"The congregation was harassed, the priests insulted and threatened, and Koran chanting was played over the loud speakers during the Church services."
Imagine a similar scenario in reverse -- where Christians were trying to win the hearts 'n minds of Muslims through such tactics. Islam leaves me feeling all warm & fuzzy inside! ...it's such a super feel-good religion (sarc).
the only people destroying mosques are other Muslims....
The Catholics gave up.....how much longer will the Copts suffer under these righteous and allah believing fools!
dumbledoresarmy said Islam seems to be a religion made for psychopaths. It does seem like a doorway through which evil people can find a legitimized place in the world. Islam is not like Hinduism, Judaism, atheism, Christianity, or Buddhism. Islam (not in every respect, but in too many) is evil. Plenty of people with Muslim backgrounds are good people, but Islam itself is an outrage and an evil. "If someone changes his Islamic religion, then kill him," said Muhammad. And that's not the worst of it. Evil.
There are so many stories just like this or worse, from just about everywhere in dar al Islam. And the more widely they are made known across the Lands of the Non-Muslims, and as report is heaped upon report, then perhaps those non-Muslim local government, those town and shire and city and county councils, that at the present time usually blithely give Muslim colonists permission to build more, and more mosques or to make bigger and bigger the mosques that already exist, may begin to hesitate.
This story - and others, such as the recent report, that also appeared here in jihadwatch, of Malaysian Muslims threatening to attack Hindus, in Malaysia, over the building of a temple (quote: "A group of Malay-Muslim protesters claiming to be residents of Section 23 have threatened bloodshed unless the state government stopped the construction of a Hindu Temple") - should be printed off and sent, with a suitable covering letter, to each and every local council, in the UK, in Australia, in Canada or anywhere else, that has recently approved the building or extension of a mosque, or the building or extension of an Islamic School or other such entity.

I think it is appropriate, in this context, to re-post something that was said here on jihadwatch, by regular poster 'm goldberg', on April 15 2006, in a thread entitled 'Dhimmi Lama':

'It is so disconcerting to hear him [the dalai lama] speak thus.
'The irony is, I was first made aware of the depth of Islam by a Buddhist monk. A lama, and a gifted, rather poignant and impressive person in my life. Many years ago, I was having a conversation with him. The mid 70's, still young and way to liberal about things in general.
'He asked me once, about the problems of Israel and the moslems.
'I had some inkling already, having met a few Turks and others, that gave a disturbing feeling to that faith. I was a bit lost in sufi poetry and all that.
'I went into what I felt was a benign enlightened peaceful interpretation of how we jews had suffered so badly at the hands of muslims and christians and had survived to show how even the meek could accomplish so much, and now, we were ready as always to share what we had for peace, and work together.
I felt very zen with my little speech to him.
And proud of myself. What a peaceful guy I was.
'What do *you* think of the problems between the moslems and the jews?," I asked...
' I'd never heard this guy ever make a negative comment about other religions, although he was quite the shapeshifter in dealing with all manner of subjects.
He smiled at me. After my little speech, he gave me a slightly forgiving smile. The kind the nurse gives you when she walks out of the Intensive care room of your loved one, and whispers...
"The doctors are working very hard"
He said softly, but succinctly- " Islam is a devil's religion"
If he'd have punched me in the nose, it would've had less effect than that comment.
It was unheard of for me, or my family or jews to comment like that. Well- all the liberal ones anyway.
I just thought to myself after hearing his comment- 'well, screw that, that's weird'
You see, I could'nt allow myself to even hear such ideas. Always you be the goody two shoes in my then ideation.
But I knew him. He was a man, a gifted, very talented man, and one whose opinion was never frivolous. Never voiced things unless they had some place, or so it seemed in one's work.
So- since it wasn't any cult. I just thought-
Screw him, that's the end of this conversation.
Yet his comments haunted me, for years. He was a very good man. A wise man, a man of insight- and I learned not to dismiss whatever he said simply because it sounded incorrect...".
There it is, the bleakly considered judgment of a Tibetan Buddhist monk, given in the 1970s to a naive Jewish boy who was yet to find out just how terribly truthful it was: "Islam is a devil's religion".
'To portray their happiness, Muslim women were letting out the traditional celebration sound "zaghroota."'
Otherwise known as ululation.
From Wiki:
"An ululation (aka ololuge or ololygmos) is a long, wavering, high-pitched sound resembling the howl of a dog or wolf with a trilling quality"
How appropriate.
The howl of a wolf is among the most beautiful sounds in nature. My German Shepherd regularly howls whenever she hears a siren and I love to listen to her.
Comparing the horrid ululations of muslimas celebrating the downfall of their enemies, as they did on 9/11, to the howl of the wolf is a grave insult to canines everywhere!
To 'ImNoDhimmi' - I agree (that comparing ululating muslimas, to the wolf howl, is an insult to wolves and all canines).
Have you ever heard the Missa Gaia/ Earth Mass?
For the Kyrie Eleison the composer begins with a recording of a wolf howl and then picks out the three main notes and uses them to set the choral version of the text. It's very beautiful. Whenever I see the nom de plume of our fellow poster 'Spirit Wolf' I am reminded of that section of the Missa Gaia.
"zaghroota"-- Thats the wailing sound made by women which sounds more like a baboon shrieking or a tribal cry. Well very unmelodious as muhammad dint like music.
