Because the chant is "insulting to Jews." No kidding, really? Even the fact that this had to be discussed is bad enough. Europe is veering close once again to tolerating the intolerable.
"Anti-Jewish football chants are illegal," from Dutch News, September 16 (thanks to C. Cantoni):
Yeah, sure, that's it.The Dutch High Court ruled on Tuesday that the chant 'Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the gas' is punishable by law because it is insulting to Jews, reports broadcaster Nos.
The case was brought before the High Court by a football supporter who had been sentenced to 80 hours community service and probation of two years by the lower court.
The man refused to accept the judgement saying the chant forms part of the culture surrounding football. 'It is not used with the intention of insulting Jews but to provoke other supporters,' he said in his defence...
I guess "Rah rah ree kick them in the knee. Rah rah rass kick them in the other knee" no longer applies. Why not try, "your team sucks, yes they do, your team sucks how about you?" Now that would get your opponents riled up. This chant is nothing but blatant bigotry. Maybe they need to take lessons from the infamous British soccer hooligans.
Here you go, you had to know it was happening or was going to happen given the current administration's efforts to use the internet as a weapon. We cannot listen and collect phone calls to foreign agents and terrorists (FISA), yet the White House is in full collect mode re: fink on you neighbor, and other questionable methods to collect email lists for their now famous Axlerod emails.
You gotta know that they are collecting the information off this site as well. I too received an email from Axlerod regarding Obama's supposed historic speech to the Muslim world from Egypt. I wonder how he got my email address?
read it all here:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/sep/16/obama-wh-collects-web-users-data/
"The White House is collecting and storing comments and videos placed on its social-networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube without notifying or asking the consent of the site users, a failure that appears to run counter to President Obama's promise of a transparent government and his pledge to protect privacy on the Internet."
....""The White House has not been adequately transparent, particularly on how it makes use of new social media techniques, such as this example," he said. "
I don't think they'll enjoy going to White Hart Lane then.
Some of the chants there would make you blush, but all in good fun.
You have to know that there's a long strife between the Rotterdam and Amsterdam soccer clubs: Rotterdam Feijenoord uses an old Nazi sympathizers' NSB club song for theirs, and they detest Amsterdam Ajax which is "full of Jews". Hence, business as usual.
'It is not used with the intention of insulting Jews but to provoke other supporters,' he said in his defence...
And I bet it does provoke other supporters...but to what?
I think we know...It's about time the Dutch courts started getting it right...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFC_Ajax
just to confirm "retch", let me quote wikipedia here:
(...)This Jewish imagery eventually became a central part of Ajax fans' culture.[15] At one point ringtones of "Hava Nagila", a Hebrew folk song, could be downloaded from the club's official website.[14] Beginning in the 1980s, fans of Ajax's rivals escalated their antisemitic rhetoric, chanting slogans like "Hamas, Hamas/Jews to the gas" ("Hamas, hamas, joden aan het gas"), hissing to imitate the flow of gas, giving Nazi salutes(...)
I heard this exactly from real Dutch people in the Netherlands. In this country it is part of common popular football culture. Hard to express my opinion here with respect to free speech: Does it confirm the holocaust ? does it incite Hamas to genocide ? would they(Hamas) be insulted at all? , if so it may be a good thing even exposing the connection ? Do the jews have to care at all ?
My standpoint is that it is a unique item of say wisdom of the people to expose the connection between mass-hysteria (in football), Hamas, killing Jews. And most of all, that this sort of propaganda can get out of control.
Unless you've been part of Football culture it's very hard to understand it. From the outside it's repugnant, vile, violent and testosterone driven. From the inside it's unifying and enjoyable, uniting some of the most polar opposite of people. Tribalism at its most base.
It's like islam but more refined and rational.
I would love for these Muslims to come up against the Maori Haka Rugby team from New Zealand.
Now that's a chant!
The Dutch High Court ruled on Tuesday that the chant 'Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the gas' is punishable by law because it is insulting to Jews, reports broadcaster Nos.
..................
Well, no. A chant that said Jews had big noses or were cheap would be "insulting to Jews"--this is a call for Jihad and genocide, no matter how cartoonish.
Even the claim that Rotterdam is just using an old Nazi chant--ugly enough in itself--doesn't quite pan out here, because of the contemporary reference to Hamas.
I'm a near absolutist when it comes to free speech, and I know sporting events can get crude. But yelling "beat LA" or "Yankees suck" simply isn't the same as calling for genocide.
Good ruling.
"Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the gas'" the popular Muslim chant quoted.
"Football chant"? "Insulting"?
This is not a football chant or merely an insult. It is a death threat and a threat of genocide, neither of which are protected as free speech under any Western democracy that I'm aware of.
"Hamas, Hamas, you're an ass."
Sounds good to me.
PART OF THE CULTURE! YEAH, THE GUTTER CULTURE. WHY DO THESE FOOLS ROAM THE EARTH?
Whatever happened to "Never Again?"
HamaSS, that's a bunch of Nazi criminals. They hate Jews to the bone and they will kill us wherever they find us. But this is good news, a Dutch court ruling that the chant is punishable, that's great. Geert Wilders is obviously not the only Dutchman who stands for human rights, there were lots of Dutch people who voted for him.
Robert, you're right, Europe is veering close once again to tolerating the intolerable. Europe, my home country, has become a very strange place. By accomodating so many Mohammedans we're digging our own graves. Unlike America, overaged Europe desperately needs immigrants. But by no means do we need people who don't understand our culture who hate our lifestyle and who want to impose their barbaric way of life on us. No way, José. Or better Jussuf, but that doesn't rhyme.
I will never give up imploring the Americans to help us. You freed Europe from the Nazis. Please free it now from Nazislam. G*d bless Europe and let's continue working together. Lechaim. And don't put that word under scrutiny. We're all in the same boat. Don't rock the boat, please.
"80 hours of community service" for such a chant?
Why not three years in jail?
Epistomology:
With respect, I don't know which country in Europe you come from, but I certainly don't regard Europe as a "country".
I regard myself as British! This is the land for which my forefathers fought and died and British I will remain.
Europe does not "desperately need immigrants" - this is a myth, a lie which the elites are using to convince the masses, but it certainly is not generally believed. Take Britain - we have huge unemployment which has become a serious problem. There will soon be too few working individuals to pay the taxes required to keep these people in the manner to which they believe they are entitled. All to feed the Marxist/Socialist agenda of a "New World Order".
It now appears likely that we will be forced to take another 30,000 North African immigrants next year to appease our "masters" in Brussels.
In Britain, the birth rate has gone up considerably this year and not only Mohammadans, but the indigenous population as well! That is good news!
If you are Jewish, G-d bless you and G-d bless Israel!!
You are the "best of people".
Dear Sencit, that is really great news. I'm from Germany, but I consider myself, as European, Europe is my home, I love the diversity here. Thanks for your kind words about the Jews. Of course, I'm very pleased that the birth rate of the indigenous British population is going up. I love Britain, and it always makes me sad, when I hear what Mohammedans are doing to your country.
I'm having an Irish visitor here at the moment, a good old friend of mine, he lives in London. And I was so surprised, that he didn't know Pat Condell. My friend has no computer, and he told me that Pat Condell is never on TV. He should have a show of his own.
So sad to see what is happening in Europe as the "sophisticated" natives revile the USA and cater to jihadists. What short memories many of them have of WWII and how Americans, Canadians, Brits, and other allies saved their bacon from Nazi domination. I was there. I know what dire canditions they were in and how welcome we allies were.
Now the younger generation, in particular, has no memory of those horrible events, ignores history and despises Americans as greedy capitalists and war-mongers. Many look at the 9/11 catastrophe as something we deserved. What a bunch of naive jerks!
Do they fully realize what those "nasty capitalist" Americans have done for the world? How about automobiles, telephones, refrigerators, air conditioners, movies, TV, computers and many other modern conveniences that most of Europe is enjoying today. Who is the first to send help when there is a natural disaster? Americans, that's who.
Sure we have our faults, but we are a democracy where everyone has input on government affairs. We are independent as hell and, like the current battle over far-left socialist programs being proposed, conservative Americans are fighting back furiously to stop them.
That's American and that's the way we are-freedom lovers.
