CAIRO -- Egypt's top Islamic authority defended women's rights to wear trousers in public following a high profile court case in neighboring Sudan were women were flogged for dressing in pants, the local press reported Wednesday.
Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa said in response to a question during a public lecture that trousers covering women's bodies are permitted, though they should be loose and not see through. He specified that "stretch" pants were in particular unacceptable.
If Mufti Gomaa went to the gym, he might "see through" this gender-specific folly and realize that stretch pants can be "unacceptable" for men as well, butt weight...
Gomaa described the question as "strange and weird"
Who is responsible for the question? Did the reporter just come up with it out of thin air?

Wow--Egypt is more tolerant than--Sudan.
Surely, this is something to be proud of! Of course, such tolerance shouldn't go too far--it doesn't go as far as allowing--gasp--stretch pants.
Infidels! I can explain the ban on "stretch" pants. We all know that if Muslimahs can wear stretch pants, our Muslim brothers will start to wear them as well. And if the brothers see the sisters, their stretch pants will stretch in an inappropriate manner. Haram!

And put this next to the Abercrombie and Fitch story, and you see the real ludicrousness that is Islam.
In Islamic countries, women get jailed, whipped or killed for dressing like a westerner. But they come here and get on like wailing infants coz they didn't get hired at some specific place for dressing like a middle eastern savage.
Of course it's not about rights. It's about Muslims bullying westerners.
This time I agree with Gomaa. It would be better, from a visual point of view, that Arab women didn't wear stretch pants.
The odd thing is in Cairo and maybe other Arabian countries, men go around touching young women to put a mark on them for paradise. Whichever one they want is theirs for the touching. Islam is ALL about sex.
