The elite FBI Hostage Rescue Team is poised to make more anti-terror raids in Queens, sources told the Daily News.
The search Wednesday in Aurora, Colo., came as the NYPD and an elite FBI team poised for additional raids in Queens in a hunt for bomb-making materials, sources told the Daily News.
An earlier Queens raid turned up nine knapsacks and cell phones, raising concerns about bombers detonating simultaneous blasts like the 2004 attack that killed 191 commuters in Spain.
Bombers in the 2005 London subway attack that killed 56 people also used knapsacks. An FBI counterterrorism bulletin issued Monday cited the British terrorist attack.
FBI agents with a search warrant arrived Wednesday at the home of Najibullah Zazi, 25, who one day earlier had protested his innocence in the apartment's front doorway.
His bold denials amazed some counterterrorism sources, who described the bushy-beared Zazi as a figure well-known to investigators.
"Zazi has certainly had some bad connections to people overseas," said a source familiar with the ongoing case.
Zazi had traveled to Pakistan, refuge for many Al Qaeda leaders, before his New York trip last week. There was a "strong suspicion" he attended a terrorist training camp there, WCBS-TV reported....
In New York, police sources said they had e-mails, wiretaps and a confidential informant tying Zazi to the plot. The suspect was spotted in a Queens mosque last week and also was seen in lower Manhattan, the sources said.
In a mosque? But didn't the Vast Majority of Peaceful Muslims rise up in righteous indignation at his activities?
Zazi managed to lose his FBI tail after he was warned about the federal attention, the sources said....

Wake up counter-terrorism sources. He protested his innocence because he truly believes he, as a Muslim, is innocent - regardless of how many terror attacks he will do or has ever done.

-What we need to do is have background checks on everyone entering the USA. If they are illegals then make them verify themselves when they go to hospitals, get caught by our police, in schools, etc.

If a muslim wants to pray then tell them to do it at home - businesses had no problem telling us no more Good Friday observances, so they should have no problem telling muslims we don't want to work while they are in their segregated rooms that ban others.

I'll try not to malign the police but, the FBI asked the cops to check the guy out, so they went around with a picture of him asking questions. The imam got wise to this and passed on the info.
They weren't exactly secretive in their investigation.
Nice to know that islams religious leaders have the best interests of the citizens of the country they're in at heart.

Well, it's about time that the gov gave the 'Hostage Rescue Team' something to do...The last time they worked (as far as I know) is when they rescued all those children at Waco, I don't know that they have rescued anyone since then...At least rooting out terrorists is a worthy cause...

As Alaskan Infidel noted, Zazi was *warned by his own Imam*. Rather puts the lie to the idea that the "Muslim community" is working hand-in-glove with law enforcement to "fight terrorism", doesn't it?
Queens also is home to the new Citi Field where thousands watch America's National Pastime. That would be a softer target and I hope it's guarded well.
