Illinois Muslims are shocked! -- shocked! -- that a Muslim there would be involved in a terror plot

I don't have a statement from the Muslim in Springfield who was plotting the terror attack that Muslims are so shocked about in this article. However, around the same time, another Muslim, Hosam Maher Husein Smadi, was plotting a jihad terror attack in Dallas, and he said this:
I truly say it that my dream is to be among God's soldiers, first for the support of Islam and my beloved Sheik Usama, may God give him long life. I don't know what is in me, but I love him as I love my father....
In the name of God, the Gracious and Merciful, this is my vow to you, my brother, that I am ready. And if you were a lover of Jihad as I am, then, by God, I am ready for the Jihadi life. What you will see of me will please you and your commander....
"My brother in God, God and His angels are with us. With the permission of the Almighty Lord of the Worlds, we will have victory and allies from God Almighty. He is the powerful and helpful. Victory is coming, is coming to defeat the Romans [i.e., Christians] and for the destruction of the Jews. God is Most Great. We shall attack them in their very homes. Brother, by God, we shall attack them in a manner that hurts, an attack that shakes the world. Oh Brother, let the backsliders know that the time for their destruction has come."
Now, if "every Muslim -- young, old, woman -- knows this is not of Islam," as is claimed below about the Springfield attack, then how did Smadi ever get the idea that he should mount a terror attack...to defend Islam? And why don't these American Muslims who are so shocked by this terror plot bother -- ever -- to explain how it is that people like Smadi got the ideas about Islam that they got, and what they're doing to make sure there aren't more Smadis?

And why am I the only person on the planet who notices this cognitive dissonance, every time, and calls their bluff, every time, while the Michael Kruses and S. I. Rosenbaums and all the rest of them take these statements at face value, every time, despite their obvious flimsiness and manipulativeness?

"Terror Plots Shock US Muslims," from IslamOnline, September 26 (thanks to Maxwell):
CAIRO -- Shocked by a series of terror arrests, American Muslims are joining hands in condemning any attacks against their country.

"Everyone here unequivocally condemns this," Driss El-Akrich, a doctoral student in public administration at the University of Illinois at Springfield, told the State Journal-Register Saturday, September 26.

"For somebody to claim they are doing this in the name of Allah, they are betraying the values of the faith they are claiming to serve."

A 29-year-old Muslim revert was arrested Wednesday in Illinois on charges of plotting attack against a courthouse in the state.

Police said the young man left an explosives-laden van near the courthouse and used a mobile phone to try to detonate the vehicle.

"I had to listen to it (the news) again and again," Javed Cheema, director of Horace Mann's project management office, said.

"I couldn't believe this was happening in my hometown."

The arrest came four days after three Americans of Afghan origin were arrested on charges of preparing a 7/7-style attacks in New York.

On Thursday, police arrested a 19-year-old Jordanian on claims of trying to bomb Dallas's 60-storey Fountain Place skyscraper.

Un-Islamic

Muslim leaders denounced the attack plots as un-Islamic. "Every Muslim -- young, old, woman -- knows this is not of Islam," said Sheikh Ahmed Fauzi, imam of the Islamic Society of Greater Springfield's mosque on Stanton Ave.

Fauzi said he was saddened by the news of the plotted attacks in the name of Islam.

"If you read the Qur'an, you do not commit crime," Fauzi said during the Friday sermon. "You do not spread crimes throughout the earth."

Muslim leaders are worried that such individual acts would have a negative impact on the Muslim community as a whole.

"I didn't know to be more angry, scared or frustrated -- that this was being done in the name of Islam," said Cheema, the director of the Horace Mann's project management office.

"It puts all of us in a bad situation. The community has been very, very welcoming to us."

American Muslims, estimated at between six to seven million, have been in the eye of storm since the 9/11 attacks.

They have become sensitized to an erosion of their civil rights, with a prevailing belief that America was targeting their faith.

A recent survey by the Pew Research Center found that American Muslims are still discriminated against other than any religious groups in the US, eight years after the 9/11 attacks.
In fact, no.

"For somebody to claim they are doing this in the name of Allah, they are betraying the values of the faith they are claiming to serve."

This can be regarded as a deliberate lie. Or it may be viewed, in another light, as a kind of Muslim Higher Truth: if some Muslim plotter claims that his plotting of terrorist acts is "in the name of Allah," that person is "betraying the values of the faith" that person is "claiming to serve" not because acts of terrorism against Infidels are wrong, not because they are not called for in the Qur'an, where in fact terrorizing of Infidels -- "strike terror into their hearts" -- is explicitly called for, but because the greatest Value of the Faith of Islam is that of Protecting and Promoting Islam itself (in Islam, Islam is the true object of worship), and at this time, 2009, and in this place, the United States of America, such acts do more harm than good to Islam.

So either he's flat out lying, or he's telling a Muslim truth that ordinarily would be un-detected by non-Muslims, but now there are too many non-Muslims who have acquainted themselves with the texts and tenets of Islam, and these people exist in sufficient numbers -- numbers growing every day -- as to make it impossible for the nonsense and lies to continue as they might once have done, without fear of such detection.

The truth that I know about the Muslim community is that wherever that community grows large there are incidents; radical preachers, dissemination of radical literature, no-go zones in European neighborhoods where non-Muslims cannot enter, attacks on Jewish citizens and community institutions, attacks on sexual minorities, and deadly terror attacks and the further planning and threatening of terror attacks. These attacks are celebrated in the name of Islam, celebrated on the Muslim street, and celebrated in the name of Islam on the Internet. I don't know what to tell Muslims who are "shocked" that this is being done in the name of Islam. Either they are disingenuous or very, very naive.

I'm sorry but I feel no sympathy for you.

How easily one of you,or many of you Muslims could have spoke out this past Friday on the West side of the Capital to your flock of 5,000 attendees to an all day prayer gathering, but not one of you did, not a single Muslim spoke out and condemned jihad against America, not one of you spoke out against terrorism when you had that pulpit on the US Capital grounds.

You failed to do what you should have been doing all along in your mosques and your madrasses, but we heard no condemnation at all, so don't come whining and playing the victim card when you have been given the opportunity to right the ship one to many times.

True and moderate Muslim where are thee??

No doubt the dhimmiworld will listen to your pleas but the words are falling more and more on deaf ears of those who know better.

CAIRO -- Shocked by a series of terror arrests, American Muslims are joining hands in condemning any attacks against their country.
It's not their country. Not yet, anyway!

Police said the young man left an explosives-laden van near the courthouse and used a mobile phone to try to detonate the vehicle.
"I had to listen to it (the news) again and again," Javed Cheema, director of Horace Mann's project management office, said.

- from the article

There must be something in the air making all these 'disingenuous' Moslimes want to spread mischief and mayhem. Why now all of a sudden we are uncovering and arresting them in numbers? Abu Mikhail, how could they have gotten your Islam so wrong? Or is the taqyiia wearing thin, and now all can see what Islam really means (listen to the news again). So they are shocked, shocked! ...that we understand, and are arresting them en mass.

Haven't they spoken to their imams and clerics in advance before packing their van with bombs to clarify this 'islamophobia' they are displaying to the world? But cognitive dissonance seems to be something the Moslime population suffers en mass, that they cannot make the connection with their 'peaceful' teachings and detonating explosives to destroy the kuffr... or themselves. Why is it they are so willing to sacrifice themselves in bloody murder in the name of Islam? Is it the magic numerology of 9/11 a September syndrome that drives the zombies mad with desire to kill? It must be something in the air.

Glad we got them, chalk one for us, again. What primitives, zombies, murderous dolts... I wonder where they got the idea?

I am SICKENED they are shocked! Because I know they are lying one way or the other as Hugh discussed. Keep those friends and contacts of this fact as the days go by.

I am afraid that they have not caught all the devout followers of allah planning to blow something up in this country. Put another way there are a lot of Brothers out there.

It has become a cliche that whenever Muslims are caught conspiring to commit mass murder the usual suspects tell the world how the conspirators are not Islamic. Yet it always seems to be Muslims plotting terror attacks all over the world.Whether in India, Israel, Iraq, Pakistan,US, UK, China, Spain, Russia and on and on and on. O'Reilly had Muslim hypocrite Edina Lekovic(sp) on his show Friday talking about the Muslim prayer service in DC.O'Reilly noted that not one Muslim at that prayer service stood up to condemn terror attacks by Muslim men worldwide.

Funny isn't it how the cops are claiming there is no link to other terrorist actions in the US? Islam is the common denominator. Connect the dots.

They must think we're a bunch of idiots.

Normally, I tone down my language and try not to write from anger, but this is too much.

Shocked?! How can they be shocked? How can they even CLAIM to be shocked? This is not an isolated incident, this is an everyday occurrence. The fact that it has come to this individual's home town is a matter of probability - given enough time, enough instances of the same event will eventually strike close to home.

Now Driss El-Akrich, what are you going to do about it? Complain about potential reprisals? Or address the fundamental flaws in your faith that lead to these actions?

It is more than the Cops. I heard Katy Couric say the same thing on the Nightly New between two very related stories about Muslim terrorist stories this last week. Typical MSM PC.

Illinois Muslims are shocked! -- shocked! -- that a Muslim there would be involved in a terror plot

Let's come up with a few variations on that headline:

The Swiss are shocked! -- shocked! -- that a citizen of their home country loves to eat chocolate!

San Francisco Castro District's residents are shocked! -- shocked! -- that there is a gay couple living in their neighborhood.

The French are shocked -- shocked! -- to learn that a Frenchman likes escargots and foie gras.

The Bavarians are shocked! -- shocked! -- that a resident of their region likes to drink beer!

A high-school student is shocked! -- shocked! -- that he might have to study hard to get a high SAT score!

The mother of a new-born is shocked -- shocked! -- that her baby's diapers have to be changed every few hours!

And we could go on, and on, and on...

Eminently correct on all counts, Hugh.

Well it happens...

A muslima is shocked! -- shocked! that her muslim husband wants to take a second wife and abuses her...

The Imam fauzi said: "If you read the Qur'an, you do not commit crime," "You do not spread crimes throughout the earth."

At his Islamic centre website it says: “…take not life, which God hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law"

and...

"jihad refers to struggle against injustice. Islam, like many other religions, allows for armed self-defense, or retribution against tyranny, exploitation, and oppression"

The FBI said Michael Finton, also known as Talib Islam hoped that an attack would cause the U.S. military to withdraw from conflicts overseas.

It seems to me the Imam and his God might be putting out some dangerous information.

There's a Muslim doctor in the specialized small town Illinois clinic I go to. He is a modern, young, educated thoroughly 'americanized' Wal-Mart shopping local. A little research online shows him a prominent member of the local college town Wahabbi mosque with Muslim Brotherhood, Saudi and extremist ties galore. Not that that should bother anyone. Hell, people, you elected a damned PRESIDENT who went to a crypto-Muslim racist hate church for TWENTY YEARS.

I just want you to know, You are not the only one........
There are thousands of us, and the numbers are growing......

And it is time for all of us to "speak up"

We have to do the right thing......... It is *our* obligation......
Good post Hugh!

Illinois Muslims are shocked! -- shocked! -- that a Muslim there would be involved in a terror plot

this sounds more like the inspector in Casablanca that was allways shocked

A recent survey by the Pew Research Center found that American Muslims are still discriminated against other than any religious groups in the US, eight years after the 9/11 attacks
funny thing about surveys depending on how you ask a question you can get a suvey too say just what u want.
muslims need to clean there house befor they cry discrimination all we have to do is look at the human rights records to see how minority's and other religions are treated under islam to see just how hypocritical muslims waving the discrimination card is

O.K. so they are shocked. Well if that's really so than why don't they come out on the streets and actually demonstrate against islamic jihadi terrorists. It's real easy for them to tell some jounalist that they are shocked while they are comfortably sitting on their chairs.
I can remember that a while ago after REAL IRA terrorists killed a policemen and a soldier people of Roman Catholic AND Protestant faith came together to demonstrate against those attacks and show everyone that they did not want violence but peace. They did not sit on their chairs and issue statements that they were shocked no they came together and acutally stood up against the violence.

"The younger Mr. Zazi also spent a lot of time at the mosque, even volunteering his time as a janitor there. He turned 16 a month and a day before Sept. 11, 2001. One acquaintance who gave only his first name, Rahul, recalled discussing the attacks three years later and Mr. Zazi saying: “I don’t know how people could do things like this. I’d never do anything like that.”"

That was a statement made by someone who is now suspected of terrorism himself. He too condemned 9-11 and now he is a terror suspect. I am wondering how many of those Illinois muslims who say they are shocked are just like this Zazi saying they are shocked and that they condemn it only to be exposed as terrorist or terror suspects in the future

Mackie,
[quote] ...Friday on the West side of the Capital to your flock of 5,000 attendees to an all day prayer gathering... [\quote]
5,000??? But they had promised 50,000! You should be ashamed to tell such a un-islamic lie, and pretend muslims do not make good on their promises, you islamophobic you! ;)

PalKicker:

DC Police where actually generous with the figure of 5,000 Muslims on the Capitals West side. Quite frankly I was suprised it was that many.

I remember a few years ago some Muslim Moderates organized a gathering at the capital that billed itself as being against terrorism,I think at best around 200 if not less showed up for it. That demonstrated volumes to us at Jihadwatch as to how the American Islamic community is responding.

I would love to see a debate between those Muslims who are shocked by terrorist actions in the name of Islam and claim these Muslims are "un-Islamic and those who believe they are following the tenants of their religion by trying to blow up innocent Americans. Perhaps they could have the UNC SUV Jihadist who read the Koran 14 times in two years and then was inspired to run over college students walking on campus on one hand and Edina Lekovitch, Muslim apologist, on the other. It would even been jolly to watch Edina, an Islamic convert, and this Finton, an Islamic convert, explain why they defined Islam as they did. I think Finton would win the argument.

Mackie,

I traveled to Washington DC to attend that anti-terror demonstration by moderate Muslims a couple of years ago...

For the record:

There were about 20 conference participants and roadies...about 20 members of the media...and 10 or 12 passersby who came, listened to a speech or two, and left, to be replaced by others. Virtually all of the passersby were white or black Americans...I did not spot a single ethnic-looking Muslim in the "crowd".

The conference organizers were being pressured by media reps to begin the speeches, but one insisted over the loud-speakers that "buses full of Muslims from all over the country are on their way".

Lo and behold, the buses never came, the turnout was a stark embarrassment, and the message sent was loud and clear: there is NO REAL CONSTITUENCY among Muslim-Americans for speaking out against jihad.

Do we blame all Mo-slums for this?

No! We only blame the Mo-slums who know the true dictates of the Qur'an and practise them to their full extent.

"Lo and behold, the buses never came, the turnout was a stark embarrassment, and the message sent was loud and clear: there is NO REAL CONSTITUENCY among Muslim-Americans for speaking out against jihad."

Nor, apparently, is there one from the Anti-Islam Movement. So far, there have been zero gathered in D.C. for any kind of demonstration, even 8 years after 9/11.

Muslim leaders denounced the attack plots as un-Islamic. "Every Muslim -- young, old, woman -- knows this is not of Islam," said Sheikh Ahmed Fauzi, imam of the Islamic Society of Greater Springfield's mosque on Stanton Ave.

Every Muslim? Really? Then why do so many proclaimed Muslims profess by word and action the belief that jihad terrorism is part of Islam?

"If you read the Qur'an, you do not commit crime," Fauzi said during the Friday sermon. "You do not spread crimes throughout the earth."

To the contrary Sheikh Fauzi, it is because they do read the the crime that so many Muslims find inspiration for jihad terrorism. Osama bin Laden is not ignorant of the Qur'an, nor are the leaders of Hamas, Hezbollah, the Taliban. In fact, they seek to justify their acts of violence in the Qur'an and its teachings. To deny the relationship between the Qur'an and the jihad terrorism of pious Muslims like Michael "Talib Islam" Finton, Hosam Maher Husein Smadi, Daniel Boyd, and Najibullah Zazi is utterly deceitful and disingenuous.

"a 29 year old revert to islam"

I love the characterization of this would be perpetrator of man made disaster----a "revert" indeed! Along with four fifths of the world's people, I was not born a muslim and neither was this depraved terrorist wannabe. He learned how to be a muslim terrorist in prison, probably from a state paid, prison system islamic cleric.

If everyone is "born" muslim and islam is ostensibly the obvious one and only true religion, why does four fifths of humanity reject it as a blasphemous obscenity? These little episodes are bad press for muslims so naturally they have to call them "unislamic" but in fact, they are islamic to the letter. Muslims are weak in America and the time is not right to get militant and quote jihad verses from the qur'an. That comes later, when there are millions more of them. Never fear, they're breeding like rats as we speak and the sermons from the pulpits in AMerican mosques are just as virulent as those in Cairo and Mecca.

Jordanians hoping to avoid stigma

The country of Jordan suddenly is a major reference in local news reports after Thursday's arrest of a young man from there accused of trying to blow up a Dallas skyscraper.

North Texans with ties to that Middle Eastern country congratulated the FBI for apprehending Hosam Maher Husein Smadi and said they hope Jordan itself won't be blamed.

"The great, great majority of the Jordanian people and Jordanian-American Muslims condemn these acts," said Jamal Gharbieh of Dallas, a Palestinian who lived in Jordan as a boy. "Jordan has always been a friendly country to the United States and has always appreciated the wonderful relationship."

He added, "We appreciate the efforts of law enforcement."

The Rev. Nabeeh Abbassi is a Jordan native who studied at Dallas Theological Seminary and led the Arab Baptist Church of Dallas from 1990 to 1994. Though now working as a pastor in Jordan, he spends two to three months a year in Dallas.

"We feel embarrassment," Abbassi said by phone from Amman on Friday when asked about the arrest. "This would not represent the Jordanian mind-set or Jordanians in general."

He, too, emphasized the strong ties between the two countries.

"We are open-minded, we are friends with the West, our leadership – King Abdullah – has always been friends with the U.S. leadership," he said.

Abbassi said that Jordan has taken a "no tolerance" stand to radical groups. But he added that in the poor rural areas of his country, anti-American sentiment has grown, especially since the Iraq war.

Jamal Qaddura, president of the DFW Islamic Educational Center in Arlington, said his visits to Jordan confirmed for him that most citizens there support the government's close ties with the U.S.

Qaddura praised local FBI officials for their work in the arrest, and for briefing him and other local Muslim leaders afterward.

He, too, said there should be no generalizations drawn about Jordan.

"In every society, you have bad apples," he said. "We have some here in this country."

He was emphatic that the man arrested is a "lone wolf" who has not been seen around the mosques of North Texas.

"Nobody knows this guy."
