Kuwait: Jihad against disco

SaturdayNightFever.jpg

There is no fun in Islam, as the Ayatollah Khomeini said. Sharia Alert from our friends and allies in modern, moderate Kuwait: offenses include disco dancing, bootlegging, and (gasp!) “performing stunts” with cars. “Several held for disco parties, manufacturing liquor during Eid,” from Arab Times, September 25 (thanks to Maxwell):

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 25: In an operation carried out under the directions of the Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Mj. Gen. Thabet Al-Muhanna, 142 men and women were arrested and some local liquor manufacturing plants were shut down by officials from the Ahmadi governorate during the Eid festivities.
Brigadier Abdul-Fatah Al-Ali took charge of the officials under the supervision of Al-Muhanna. The team first raided three apartments in Abu Halifa, Mangaf and Mahboula where they arrested 51 citizens, Arab and Asian men and women for organising overnight disco parties.

The officials then arrested 13 beggars near mosques in Sabahiya, Riqqa, Abu Halifa and Fahaheel. They carried out another raid in Kabad, Dhaer and Sabahiya and arrested 43 youths for performing stunts with their cars. Some influential persons reportedly tried to intervene on behalf of the youths, but the officers carried out their duty.

The officials also arrested 16 street hawkers in Kout, Minshar and Kuwait Magic complexes and referred them to police stations at Fahaheel, Abu Halifa and Sabahiya. They went on to shut down a liquor manufacturing plant and nabbed 6 Asians in possession of 47 bottles and 79 bags of alcohol.

Stayin’ Alive has a whole new meaning:

    And now it’s all right, it’s O.K.
And you may look the other way.
    We can try to understand
The New York Times’ effect on man.
    Whether you’re a brother
    Or whether you’re a mother,
    You’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive.
    Feel the city breakin’
    And ev’rybody shakin’
And we’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive.
    Ah, ha, ha, ha,
    Stayin’ alive.
    Stayin’ alive.
    Ah, ha, ha, ha,
    Stayin’ alive.

Yeah, we should have just bought oil from the Iraq+Kuwait combined.

Also, had Saddam conquered Saudi Arabia, Iraq would have been a 50-50 Shia-Sunni country, and we could have enjoyed a civil war.

Only problem – those scuds he was hurling at Israel, and his backing for Arafat.

Forced virtue is sham virtue. Muslims never get this (except those who leave Islam—–upon pain of death of course, courtesy of the world’s most intolerant religion). True virtue can only exist where real choice is present. And where is real choice present in the Islamic world?

Notice that in the Judeo-Christian world mockery of Judaism and Christianity does not come with death threats and the like. This is evidence of not only how Judeo-Christian thought is compatible with real freedom but is also revealing of Judaism and Christianity’s true security in their respective belief systems.

Oh yeah, just for the record, I’m not into disco but neither do I think it dispositive of the route to hell. The fact that the Islamic world does is just more evidence of how fucking silly it really is.

“There is no fun in Islam, as the Ayatollah Khomeini said” Khomeini is part of one of the most controversial sects in Islam Mr. 30 years of studying Islam. Khomeini is part of the cursed “Shiite” sect. The only large population they have is Iran. That’s all. The Shiites believe that the Quran that we have today is NOT the real one. How could you listen to what this guy says?

Busted for playing disco music ? Now we’re talkin’.

    I’M KIDDING !

But don’t dare tell me you didn’t at least smile at the thought “back in the day”. Hey, after all these years, disco STILL sucks !

No fun in Islam ? Hell, there’s no anything in Islam except subjugation to tyranny and the will of an iron blade at the hands of madmen.

    Sheik,

Bush Sr. took Americans to war to save his wahhabbi friends, just as Jr. sacrificed American lives, blood and tax-dolalrs to save his wahhabbi friends and family in Al-Riyadh.
In both cases, Americas were told fairy-tales, like:
    – Saudis are our friends.
    – Saddam has WMDs.
    – Iraq is the axis of evil.
…., needless to say that both papa and Jr. were in wahhabbi pockets, before, on and after 9/11. Petro-dollars talk!

    Some anonymous Sunni supremacist wrote:

    ………………

For one thing, there are significant Shi’ite minorities in many parts of the Muslim world, including Saudi Arabia–and they make up the majority in Iraq.

But, ultimately, this is entirely besides the point. Even if one dismisses the Ayatollah Khomeini entirely because he is Shi’ite, there is plenty in orthodox Sunni Islam which pretty much emphasizes that there is “no fun in Islam”.

All of the schools of thought including Maliki, Shafii, Hanbali and Hanafi say that music is Haram.

Here’s one Hadith regarding musical instruments:

“Narrated Abu ‘Amir or Abu Malik Al-Ash’ari that he heard the Prophet saying, “From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful.”

Here’s one regarding the makers of pictures:

“And Bukhari, Tirmidhi, and Imam Nasa’i relate the prophetic hadith form Ibn Abbas, ‘Whoever makes a picture, Allah shall torture him with it on the Day of Judgment until he can breathe life into it, and he will never be able to.'”

There are many more. And then there have been Shari’ah restrictions–in Sunni lands, since that seems important to you–against singing, dancing, and art, including some Somali Jihadists who opened fire on musicians at a wedding:

And what about the Kuwaitis in the story above? They seemed fine with targeting discos, even without recourse to any heretic Shi’ite philosophy.

The music may have sucked, but some of the dance moves were cool. Too bad I was only 12 years old at the time. I had just enough talent to write a lousy disco song…I could’a been a contender…
