After a quiet Month of Jihad, the jihad actually resumes. "Terrorism: Algeria, Several Attacks In Kabylie, Fatalities," from ANSAmed, September 22 (thanks to Insubria):
ALGIERS, SEPTEMBER 22 - After a month of Ramadan that was marked by a significant decline in terrorism, several attacks have hit the Algerian region of Kabylie over recent days, killing a soldier and a patriot (civilian self-defence groups) and injuring at least 7 policemen. According to the Algerian press, five soldiers were injured on Sunday (the first day of Aid El Fitr, the holiday which marks the end of Ramadan) in the explosion of a remotely-activated bomb in Takhoukht, 30km south of Tizi Ouzou, capital city of the Kabylie region. On Saturday, another soldier was injured by a second bomb in the same area, whilst just a few kilometres away in Souk El Thenine, a group of armed men opened fire on a car in which a police officer was travelling. A soldier, writes El Watan, was killed in an explosion of a fourth bomb on Friday near Boumerdes, 50km east of Algiers. In Bouira, in Kabylie, a patriot was shot dead on the same day. (ANSAmed).
The festivities of eid should be banned anywhere where moslems are not in the majority.
It's just more supremacist nonsense.
Ditto, Question_Everything.
"Eid" - Utter and complete Nonsense. No place in the civilized and intellectual West.
Why is the "religion of peace" always exploding bombs and killing people?
Why is the "religion of peace" always exploding bombs and killing people?
Its a translational error.
it should read "the religion of pieces."
Allah Ackboom!!!
One wishes the Berbers well, and hopes that in Kabylia, and in Morocco, and elsewhere, they may someday achieve autonomy, or perhaps even independence. And how many of those who think they are Arabs in North Africa in fact are the descendants of Berbers, given Arabic names, taught to use Arabic over many generations, but in fact are Berbers -- or other kinds of non-Arabs, descendants of others, Christians and Jews, who lived in great numbers once in North Africa.
More than fifty years ago a French general wrote about the Berbers. It was his observation that they were much closer than the Arabs to the French, that they were, he felt, practically a European people. Perhaps what struck him the most was that, given an alternative identity that did not reinforce, as 'Uruba or Arab-ness does, but played against, Islam, they were less willing to be "slaves of Allah" and more wililng,in their well-justified resentment of the cultural and linguiustic imperialism of the Arabs, to take a dimmer view of Islam than the Arabs, who after all have little else to claim as their "contribution to civilization."
I believe they prefer to call them an "I.E.D."
Allah Ackboom!!!
Mobamad.
:-D
Hugh, after reading Ibn Warraq's book 'Leaving Islam: The Apostates Speak' where he speaks extensively about the Berbers, I decided to do some research on their culture and language. It sounds nothing like Arabic at all, and is heavily perfumed with la belle langue. I hadn't realized that so many Algerians were actually Berbers. In fact, their language seems to be rebounding, and along with it, its very non Arabic writing system. There is a strong sentiment against the relentless Arabization among the Berbers. This is something that should be encouraged and exploited. The Protestant community has made great inroads via satellite television and radio broadcasts to the Berbers.
Jewel - Christianity's huge trump card with the Berbers (and with other groups like them, within dar al Islam, such as the Kurds) is that it speaks to them in their own language. The Gospels have been translated into at least a couple of the Berber languages (there is not just one Berber language, but several), and are then beamed into North Africa, together with songs and suchlike. So a young Berber intellectual whose language has been ruthlessly denigrated and suppressed by the Arab/ Arabised/ Arab supremacist Muslims all his life, can tune in to Christian radio if he likes, every day, to hear programs in his own language. The mother tongue, the ancestral tongue, the language of the heart and of the soul. What's more: the Christians generally throw in plenty of music ; sharia frowns on music but all major branches of Christianity revel in it.
Once, visiting the website of the French branch of the Bible Society, I encountered a heartwarming story of a group of Berber Christians (all converts from Islam...) who were translating the Psalms into their language. They had conceived of this project themselves and had been working away at it for some time before calling in the Bible Society in France, to assist.
